One of the major drawbacks of OFDM modulation is the large envelope fluctuations which either result in an inefficient use of high power amplifiers (HPA) or decreased transmission system performance. Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is a very well known measure of the envelope fluctuations and has become the cost function used to evaluate and design OFDM systems. In this paper, we propose a PAPR reduction scheme known as adding signal method for which the principle is to reduce the PAPR of the OFDM signals by adding several artificial signals. It is an extension of the method that we have proposed in. The major advantages of this technique include downward compatibility, no performance degradation and no transmission of side information. A method is said to be downward compatibility if its implementation in a transmitter does not imply modifications in the associated receiver. According to simulation results, the method outperforms the PAPR-reduction performance presented. For example, at 10-2 of the Complementary Cumulative Distribution Function (CCDF), the PAPR is reduced about 3.5 dB for 5 artificial signals addition, whereas this reduction is about 1.5 dB for method which is the case of one artificial signal addition.

This paper proposes a new method for real-time distributed image acquisition through wireless networks of traffic monitoring cameras. The goal is to provide comprehensive image acquisition in the presence of dynamic disturbances, which obstruct the field of view (FOV) of the cameras. The paper presents a collaborative online algorithm, which (upon FOV loss) identifies an optimized set of cameras that must be turned on to cover the FOV loss. The set is found using a novel cost function, also discussed in the paper. Experimental results are offered to illustrate the effectiveness of the method in recovering the lost FOV.

In this paper are presented the developed algorithms and program system implementation for stereoscopic anaglyph deghosting based on parallax and color adjustment. The stereoscopic technique based on color separation of the images, intended for the left and the right eye respectively, by means of Red and Cyan color filters (anaglyph glasses) is used. Methods and algorithms for estimation and reduction of ghosting effect associated with anaglyph stereo images as well as an approach to measure and analyze this effect are suggested. The program results of the developed ghosting reduction algorithm with intensity transformation of Red and Green channels are compared to the PS basic processing method of anaglyphs. The achieved results can be used for stereoscopic imaging suitable for the printed media, Internet 3D application, art presentation and visualization on all currently widespread screens.

New application areas such as application web services, eCommerce, and peer-to-peer computing call for robust software systems with open architectures and efficient use of resources available in the environment in which they operate. To build such systems, it is very important to have mechanisms for communication, negotiation, and coordination between software components. Multi-agent system technologies and methodologies offer a guidance and support in building such software systems. The agent-oriented approach to software development is still in the transition from prototyping, done by researchers in the academic communities, to the development of large-scale industrial-strength applications by software professionals. For this to succeed, methodologies are needed to systematically guide and support developers through the various stages of system development. In the recent past, more than a dozen methodologies have been proposed, offering a range of modeling concepts, techniques for analysis, and tools for support. In this paper the application of agent unified modeling language (AUML) to warehouse management systems is presented.

The demand for the wireless Internet requiring broadband is expected to increase in a dramatic way due to popularity of tri player applications including voice, video, and data transmission. The existing wireless technologies UMTS, WiFi, WiMax, may not satisfy the customer requirements, for many reasons including availability, coverage, cost and most importantly mobility. Each technologies has it is own limitations related to the above characteristics. We present a seamless connectivity scheme for a mobile user, by aggregating different wireless technologies, to make the network transparent for the running applications on the mobile devices and satisfy wide range of services including voice, data, multimedia, and Web browsing.

In this paper, an unsupervised approach based on non-linear filtering and region growing techniques to obtain the endocardial surface is proposed. The filtering stage is performed using mathematical morphology operators in order to improve the left ventricle cavity information in multi slice computerized tomography images. A seed point located inside the cardiac cavity is used as input for the region growing algorithm. This seed point is propagated along the image sequence to obtain the left ventricle surfaces for all instants of the cardiac cycle. The method is validated by comparing the estimated surface with respect to left ventricle shapes drawn by a cardiologist. The average error obtained was 1.38 mm.

Adaptive noise cancellation (ANC) is a well-known technique for background noise reduction in automobile and vehicular environments. The noise fields in automobile and other vehicle interior obey the diffuse noise field model closely. On the other hand, the ANC does not provide sufficient noise reduction in the diffuse noise fields. In this paper, a new multistage post-filter is designed for ANC as a solution to diffuse noise conditions. The designed post-filter is a single channel linear prediction (LP) based speech enhancement system. The LP is performed by an adaptive lattice filter and attempts to extract speech components by using intermediate ANC signals. The post-filter has no processing delay which is suitable for speech communication systems. We have evaluated the performance of proposed system in various real-life noise fields, recorded in an automobile environment. The experimental results using various quality measures show that the proposed method is superior to both the adaptive noise canceller and LP-based speech enhancement systems.

This paper introduces a new extended average magnitude difference function (EAMDF) for noise robust pitch detection. EAMDF involves in sufficient number of averaging for all lag values compared to the original AMDF, and thereby eliminates the falling tendency of the AMDF without emphasizing pitch harmonics at higher lags, which is a severe limitation of other existing improvements of the AMDF. A noise robust post processing that explores the contribution of each frequency channel is also presented. Experimental results on Keele pitch database in different noise level shows the superiority of the proposed EAMDF based pitch detection method over other methods based on AMDF.

This paper investigates the use of autonomous learning in the problems of complex robot assembly of miniature parts in the example of mating the gears of one multistage planetary speed reducer. Assembly of tube over the planetary gears was noticed as the most difficult problem of overall assembly and favourable influence of vibration and rotation movement on compensation of tolerance was also observed. With the proposed neural network based learning algorithm, it is possible to find extended scope of vibration state parameter. Using deterministic search strategy based on minimal distance path action between vibration parameter stage sets and recovery parameter algorithm, we can improve the robot assembly behaviour, i.e. allow the fastest possible way of mating.
