Carmina (1781), Wiersze ( Poems , 1783), Poezyje ( Poetry , 1787) and pieces from Rękopis puławski (Manuscript of puławy, 1794–1796). The researcher points at numerous connections between the in dividual pieces, examines the modes of grouping them into lyrical cycles, discusses the functions of lyrical subject, intertextual relations, references to ancient literature, and, first and foremost, to jan Kochanowski (especially his Treny á Laments ñ and Muza á The Muse ñ both of which Kniaźnin translated into the latin language). Fieguth’s most crucial achievement is viewing Kniaźnin’s polish and latin output as a whole independent of language (polish and latin) and having common features, but also intermingling in many ways. Fieguth appreciates both the latin volume of Kniaźnin as well as Poems from the year 1783 that include the first editing of Żale Orfeusza nad Eurydyką ( Laments of Orpheus for Eurydice ), the cycle that from that moment became most vital part of composing subsequent editions of Kniaźnin’s poetry until the last one written down at the twilight of the poet’s conscious life. important observations are also included in reference to the two last collections, namely Poezyje ( Poetry ) and poems from the Manuscript of puławy. Abstract The review discusses Tomasz chachulski’s book on the editing of the texts of the enlightenment. it consists of 14 essays referring to the 18 th century literary culture and poetry and are arranged into three thematic parts, namely Szukanie kształtu ( Looking for shape ), Szukanie sensów ( Looking for sense ), and Szukanie źródeł ( Looking for source ). in the reviewer’s assessment, analysing the history of indi vidual piece editions, chachulski proves that not only in theory, but also in practice, editing may be presently understood as a literary history.

PIOTR BOGALECKI University of Silesia, Katowice ORCID: 0000-0002-6527-9765 “UKRYTY PŁONĘ [I BURN IN HIDING]” ON BOLESŁAW LEŚMIAN’S CYCLE “Z KSIĘGI PRZECZUĆ” (“FROM THE BOOK OF PREMONITIONS”) The paper is an analysis and interpretation of a nine-part Bolesław Leśmian’s poetic cycle Z księgi przeczuć (From the Book of Premonitions), published in 1902 in “Chimera”, and of a few other early pieces by the poet. Starting with Epilog (Epilogue) that completes the collection in which the speaking subject compares himself to God burning “on Sinai,” the author analyses the light motives present in the cycle, which leads to validate the opinion of Anna Czabanowska-Wróbel who states that Leśmian was inspired by Jewish mysticism, and to particularise this stance with Marranism (the poet at the age of nine converted with his father) and with a post-secular reflection upon secularising. The paper suggests two modes of reading of the cycle, namely a linear one in which it is viewed as a narration on identity transformation, and a concentric one in the light of which its central thought hidden topic is the problem of forgetting and changing name.

ANETA MAZUR University of Opole ORCID: 0000-0002-8850-3571 WŁADYSŁAW BOGUSŁAWSKI’S LITERARY CREATIVITY—“A SECOND RATE CASE”? The paper describes the literary creativity of Władysław Bogusławski (1838—1909), an distinguished theatre critic (theorist) and a deserving literary critic. Bogusławski was the author of prose pieces produced mainly in 1880s. The most interesting of them—six tales and short stories as well as one dramatic sketch—represent female (feminist) discourse, showing sex relations penetratingly and nonstereotypically: in a psychological-customary, social, anthropological, history-cultural and philosophical context, as well as from the ambivalent proand antiemancipatory stance. Equally interesting and valuable are two autobiographical reminiscences referring to the writer’s stay in exile in Siberia. Finally, there are two minor tales—parables with a philosophical and ethical message. Bogusławski’s thematically and formally diversified prose is characterised by original compositional solutions and aesthetic erudition (e.g. references to music and painting). w którym zabronił rodzinie wydawania swych prac literackich, twierdząc: „[są] chwilowego, przemijającego znaczenia, nie mają doniosłości, która by usprawiedliwiała upamiętnienie ich drukiem” (cyt. za: S e c o m s k a, Władysław Bogusławski – krytyk zapomniany, s. 12). 73 B o g u s ł a w s k i, Estetyka sceniczna, s. 274. 74 B o g u s ł a w s k i, Aktorzy warszawscy, s. 89.
