The author of the article examines the sources and the circumstances of producing a collection of Pas sion pieces by Stanisław Grochowski entitled Cudowne wiersze z indyjskiego języka przełożone [...] ( Wonderful Verses from the Indian Language , 1611), and especially Druga żałoba Panny Naświętszej ( Holy Mary’s Second Mourning ) contained in it. The poem turns out to be a paraphrased translation of a fragment De partu Virginis by Jacopo Sannazaro presenting in King David’s prophetic vision the future torment of Christ and the suffering of his mother. Sannazaro’s Planctus Mariae survived as a separate composition in a few handwritten codices and was also quoted as an independent piece in old preach ments and meditations about the Passion. An analysis of Grochowski’s poem proves that the Polish poet used this kind of account—the view is also supported by a comparative analysis as well as by the information added to the title of the poem about offering it to Pope Adrian VI.

Employing selected terms of queer theory, namely the Child, reproductive futurism, and queer asexuality, it interprets Juliusz Słowacki’s Anhelli as a poem which links the rejection of future with asexuality. In this reading, Anhelli’s melancholy becomes a literary exemplification of alienation from the Symbolic, emptiness of fractured Lacanian subject, while the title character becomes a future-denying queer outcast. This claim is supported with the analysis of the endings added to Anhelli by Kornel Ujejski and by Wacław Gasztowtt, which indicate a cultural resistance towards the queer call to abandon the fantasy of stable meanings, complete identity, and better future. 53 Zob. MACIEJ LIBICH University of Warsaw ORCID: 0000-0002-8536-3315 TROUBLE SPOTS LEOPOLD BUCZKOWSKI’S WAR SPACES The paper attempts to reconstruct Leopold Buczkowski’s complicated war biography, which today remains the least penetrated period of his life. Resorting to the available sources, especially the ascertainments by Justyna Staroń, Zygmunt Trziszka, Jan Tomkowski, and Hanna Kirchner, as well as including Buczkowski’s own statements, the author of the sketch reconstructs the life of Buczkowski until the outbreak of the World War II: the history of September campaign of 1939, the years he spent in the village Podkamień, conspiracy, participation in the Warsaw Uprising, as well as after the war when he produced and completed Czarny potok (Black Torrent). Questioning for the unclear places in Buczkowski’s life, the author strives to restore the most probable train of events and points at those issues that deserve closer attention in future studies.
