Effects of Movement Control Biofeedback Exercise Training on Joint Position Sense and Dysfunction in Patients with Chronic Neck Pain 运动控制生物反馈训练对慢性颈痛患者关节位置感和功能障碍的影响

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of visual neck movement control biofeedback during neck movement control exercise training for eight weeks on joint position sense and dysfunction in neck. METHODS The subjects were 21 women who had chronic neck pain during the last six months. They were divided into Experimental Group (EG, n=10; 47.5±5.4 yrs.) and Control Group (CG, n=11; 45.0±3.7 yrs.). Both groups carried out neck movement control exercise training over a period of 8 weeks. The visual biofeedback informed by the neck’s moving which was displayed in real time on three axes (X: flexion & extension, Y: rotation, Z: lateral flexion) on a smart phone devise screen wirelessly linked to initial measurement units were provided only to EG subjects during the neck movement control exercise. The dependent variables were joint position sense and neck disability index, which were tested in a pre-test before and in a post-test 4 and 8 weeks after the two types of exercise training programs. The repeated measurement two-way ANOVA was performed to test mean difference between groups and measurements, and the effect of interactions between them on the significant level of α=.05. RESULTS First, there were significant differences between groups in joint position sense of neck and cervical flexion. Second, there were significant differences between measurements of 1) cervical rotation, cervical lateral flexion, cervical flexion, cervical extension in the joint position sense test, 2) neck disability indexes. Third, the effect of interaction was significant in cervical lateral flexion and cervical flexion of joint position sense test, and neck disability indexes. CONCLUSIONS It was concluded that the visual neck movement control biofeedback provided during the 8 weeks movement exercise training using initial measurement unit improved joint position senses in cervical lateral flexion and cervical flexion, and resolved various neck dysfunction in chronic neck pain patients.

Effects of Fermented Sea Tangle Supplementation on the Oxidative Stress and DNA Damage in Older Women 补充发酵海结对老年妇女氧化应激和DNA损伤的影响

OBJECTIVES The free radical theory of aging posits that a decrease in antioxidant capacity occurs in old age. This exposes the body to greater oxidative stress, which has been reported to have a causal effect on the aging process and development of disease. Sea tangle is a fermented food source shown to provide a reducing antioxidant effect. METHODS Forty senior women participated in a randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled study. Two groups were formed, one placebo (74.57 ± 5.69 yrs) and one FST (fermented sea tangle) group (72.35 ± 5.54 yrs), which received 1.5g/day of FST for 6 weeks. RESULTS Serum superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), glutathione reductase (GSR), thiobarbituric reactive species (TBARS) and 8-hydroxodeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels were analyzed before and after the experimental period. FST supplementation significantly increased serum SOD and GSR levels. Whereas, levels of oxidative stress markers, TBARS and 8-OHdG were significantly decreased in comparison to those in the placebo group, after 6 weeks. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that FST can act as an effective exogenous antioxidant intervention against the dwindling efficiency of our biological defenses and/or increased intracellular reactive oxygen and DNA damage levels, associated with aging. Consideration of Shoulder Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Exercise for Overhead Sports Population 高架运动人群肩伤预防与康复训练的思考

The main purpose of this article is to suggest orthopaedic-basic knowledge on evidence-based injury prevention and rehabilitation exercise for overhead sports activity population such as throwing, tennis, resistance training. Overhead sports activity population have glenohumeral joint internal rotation deficit (GIRD), excessive external rotation, posterior shoulder tightness (PST), abnormal scapular position and dyskinesis. These physical characteristics may elicit common shoulder injury such as subacromial impingement syndrome, rotator cuff tendinopathy, consequently range of motion improvement exercise and rotator cuff strengthening are needed in order to prevent it. Especially, sleeper stretching and horizontal adduction stretching are sports-specific technique to improve for GIRD and PST, external rotator cuff strengthening in side-lying position is recommended to adjust a balance strong internal rotator compared with weak external rotator for rotator cuff exercise. Therefore, exercise specialist should examine shoulder joint strength and range of motion before practical application, these exercise maneuvers can be used extensively for shoulder injury prevention as well as rehabilitation exercise.

Effect of Mindfulness Based Sport Psychology Counseling on Injured Junior Baseball Players in Rehabilitation Process-Case Study 正念运动心理辅导对受伤青少年棒球运动员康复过程的影响-个案研究

OBJECTIVES Athletes and other stakeholders tend to focus on their physical aspects of rehabilitation although psychological factors may contribute to the success of return to sports. Therefore, the purpose of this case study was to apply the mindfulness based psychological skills training to injured junior baseball players during the rehabilitation process and examine the effect of the program. METHODS The 8 sessions of the mindfulness based psychological skills training were conducted for 4 participants and K-PCS, K-CAMS-R, Perceived Performance Level, TOPS, PANAS, and CSAI-2 were implemented and analyzed. RESULTS As a result, all of the variables significantly varied in a positive way after the intervention and additionally qualitative results, such as mindfulness and imagery, aided the quantitative result. CONCLUSIONS Such positive effects of the intervention reinforced the importance of the role of psychological rehabilitation for injured athletes, and implication of this study was discussed.

Role and Perspective of Sport Science in Health Promotion and Elite Sport

RESULTS Sport science has emerged as an important part of human science since long ago. In the BC 1800s, evidence of sports being used as treatment for diseases was the foundation for ‘Exercise Medicine’ , as suggested by ACSM in 2007. Similar to the characteristics of other academics, sport science also shows a periodic wave, alternating between a flow of segmentation and specialization and a flow of convergence and interdependence. The sport science approach not only prevents diseases but also aids in the treatment of diseases. The process of development of evidence-based sports science includes questions on the applicability on the actual setting and collecting evidences of its answer. Sport science must be recognized as an important academic field that provides clear answers to the questions posed by the public, athletes, and coaches. Convergence with diverse modern sciences and evolution is suggested. Convergence of culture industry and increased participation in sports have brought positive effects, including healthy lifestyles, ICT innovation, IT software utilization, sociability among the elderly, development of global sport networks, strengthened tourism industry, and development of sensory virtual reality.

Utilization of the Speed–Effectiveness Index for Evaluating the Jump Performance of Female College Students in a Running-Long Jump PE Class 运用速度-效果指标评价女大学生跑跳远体育课跳远成绩

OBJECTIVES This study investigated the speed–effectiveness index (SEI) profile for running long jump in female college students and its applicability in evaluating jump skill. METHODS Sixty-two female college students were chosen as subjects. First, a multiple regression analysis was performed by setting jump distance as the dependent variable and height, weight, and 50meter run time as independent variables. The SEI was calculated as the ratio between the actual jump distance and estimated jump distance derived by substituting the subject’s 50-meter run time into a liner regression equation correlating 50-meter run time with an actual jump distance (based on all subjects). RESULTS The only significant regression coefficient was the 50-meter run (p < .05), which accounted for 59.5% of jump distance variance. The SEI, which refers to the effective (or ineffective) use of speed in jumping distance, is considered a normally distributed jump skill metric. Furthermore, no significant differences in physique were found between high-SEI (greater than or equal to 1) and low-SEI (below 1) groups. CONCLUSIONS The SEI could provide a relative evaluation of jumping performance depending on physical resources without consideration of physique.

OBJECTIVES To understand the condition of athletes engaged in daily sports activities, it is important to investigate the pain that many such athletes can experience as well as the pain that can be an initial symptom of injury. Although handball is a contact sport associated with frequent injuries, the actual nature of pain symptoms that develop has not been sufficiently studied, and the relationship between pain occurrence and athletes’ daily changing physical load remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify the nature of pain symptoms in handball players and examine the relationship between pain occurrence and physical load.

OBJECTIVES To compare the affective responses and enjoyments to acute high-intensity training (HIIT) with short or long intervals in young and obese females. METHODS Participants completed two bouts of HIIT which were separated over 48 hours respectively. The exercise protocols were cycling on an ergometer at 90%VO2peak intensity for 4 minutes with 3 minutes recovery(Low-frequency interval, Group L) or 40 seconds cycling with 30 seconds recovery (High-frequency interval, Group H) until 200 KJ mechanical work was completed. At the time of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% work was completed, the feeling scale (FS), rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were recorded, and the blood lactic acids (LA) were measured when the 50% and 100% work was completed. The physical activity enjoyment scale (PAES) was recorded 5 minutes after the exercise. RESULTS Before the exercise, there were no significant differences between the group H and L in terms of the HR, RPE, FS and LA. When 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of work was completed, the HR and the RPE in group H were all lower than the corresponding time point in group L. The LA in group H was lower than the corresponding values in group L when 50% and 100% work was completed. At the time of 75% and 100% work was completed, the FS in group H was higher than group L, although there were no significant differences at the time of 25% and 50% work done between the two groups. By the end of exercise, the PAES score in group H was higher than group L. CONCLUSIONS Increasing the frequency of interval could increase the positive feeling during HIIT and improve the physical activity enjoyment. METHODS All 7 adolescent male athletes performed 2000 m rowing exercise after the completion of each of three different 7-day treatments; non-treatment (CO); a total daily dose of BCAA 3.15 g (1.05g×3) (BCAA); or both a total daily dose of BCAA 3.15 g (1.05 g × 3) and glutamine 6 g (2 g × 3) (BC+GLU). There was a 30-day rest period between each treatment. After intake of amino acids for 7 days, the participants completed the rowing exercise on day 8, and their blood samples were collected (at resting state, Rest; immediately after exercise, Ex0; and 30 min after the exercise, Ex30) and were analyzed using ELISA.
