The Challenges of the National Physical Education Leader’s Qualifications Framework in Korea 韩国国家体育领导资格框架面临的挑战

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study is to examine and underline the problems regarding the issue in the National Physical Education Leader’s qualification framework which revised in 2015 and provide guidelines for developing a new qualifications framework and revising the written examination subjects.METHODS To Implement an integrated qualifications framework, it’s important to make a decision after listening to various opinions such as the number of levels to be changed, the qualification requirements (testing qualifications) after changing the level system, the academic settings/level of sports, the eligibility requirements between levels. For the structure of the qualification framework integration, integrating it into the two-level or three- level system has the greater advantage in various aspects and it may minimize controversy.CONCLUSIONS The qualification framework should be integrated into the two-level or three-level system, and the selection of the written examination subjects should be revised. To consider the sequence of the courses and learning contents for the National Physical Education Leader qualifications, the following written examination subjects should be included as the compulsory subjects for the three-level, twolevel, or one-level systems respectively: exercise physiology, exercise mechanics, sports psychology, and health education; physical education measurement and evaluation, health and fitness evaluation, exercise prescription, and pathophysiology; and prevention and treatment of sports injuries and training theory. One of the innovative strategies to improve the current exam contents, the following written examination subjects should be eliminated such as sports education, sports ethics, Korean sports history, and sports sociology or significantly reduce the number of questions to be asked. Another strategy is to determine the eligibility qualifications according to standard guidelines on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for each job area by subject and position according to the qualification system, such as the secondary education teachers exam or the certified nutritionist certification exam, and select exam contents and numbers of the question in each subject according to the essential knowledge and skills. It is also worth considering the question of different ratios.

The Effects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on Body Composition, Health Fitness, Functional Movement Screening in non-Elite Healthy Young Adults 巴西柔术对非精英健康青年身体成分、健康体质、功能运动筛查的影响

OBJECTIVES Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) has grown massively in recent years, but its positive effects in non-elite population has not been analyzed. The purpose of current study was to exam the effects of BJJ on body composition, health fitness components, and functional movement screening (FMS) in healthy young adults.METHODS Combined exercise program was composed of aerobic and resistance exercises. All participants were randomly assigned either into BJJ exercise group (BJEG, n=10, 28.10±2.64 years) or combined exercise group (CEG, n=10, 28.20±3.43 years). Exercise intervention was conducted for ninety minutes per session, three times per week for twelve weeks.RESULTS Body fat (%) and muscle mass (kg) were significantly improved in both groups. Muscle strength in upper and lower extremity, muscle endurance, flexibility, power were significantly improved in both groups. Cardiorespiratory fitness in BJEG was significantly improved. Also, FMS total score and deep squat score showed significant improvement in both groups.CONCLUSIONS BJJ is an effective exercise for health and fitness management purpose in non-elite healthy young adults.

The Effect of Kendo’s Chudan-no-kamae and Three Striking Movements on Changes in Brainwaves Related to Concentration Index 剑道三击动作对集中指数相关脑电波变化的影响

OBJECTIVES This study was conducted to figure out the effects of kendo training on the activity of brainwaves by analyzing changes in brainwaves during chudan-no-kamae and three-movement-striking, which are basic movements of kendo, in elementary school students who undergo kendo training and comparing left and right side brainwave activities to find out differences.METHODS This study was conducted with 29 male elementary school students living in K City who were experts in kendo with a career as an athlete or a kendo training period not shorter than six months. The brainwave activity was measured by measuring and analyzing brainwaves at eight regions at the prefrontal lobe, the frontal lobe, the temporal lobe, and the occipital lobe using brainwave measuring equipment. Brainwaves were measured for 5 minutes in a sitting position in a stable state and were also measured for 5 minutes after 15 minutes of the chudan-no-kamae movement, which is aiming at the opponent with the point of the sword while moving along eight moving lines of the opponents, and for 5 minutes after 15 minutes of three striking movements.RESULTS Alpha waves showed higher brainwave activity during the stable state than during the kendo movements (three striking movements, chudan-no-kamae) while SMR, M-beta, and H-beta showed higher brainwave activity after kendo movements than during the resting state. The asymmetry between the left and right sides increased after the movements compared to during the resting state.CONCLUSIONS These results are considered attributable to kendo training that partly increased their concentration thereby increasing brainwave activity. However, it is unclear that kendo training will be helpful for concentration through physical activities and brain activity in this study. Therefore, further study should be conducted with the measurement of factors related to emotional aspects, concentration, and brainwaves according to kendo training.

A Literature Review on the Sleeper and Cross-Body Horizontal Adduction Stretching 睡眠者与横体水平内收拉伸的文献综述

OBJECTIVES Overhead throwing athlete’s glenohumeral internal rotation deficit (GIRD) and posterior shoulder tightness (PST) could increase the risk of shoulder injuries. Sleeper stretching and cross-body stretching has shown the effect of improved PST and increased internal rotation in overhead throwing athletes. The purpose of this study is to provide how to apply those stretching techniques in evidence-based method to improve the effects of the stretching on throwing athletes. METHODS We searched total 1650 research with keywords related. Then we selected 60 research which applied randomized control trials (RCTs). We then reviewed and selected 9 research out of 18 research to review the stretching techniques RESULTS Sleeper stretching and cross-body stretching techniques were applied for 30 seconds with 3 to 5 repetitions showing positive results. Additionally, applying scapular stabilization and joint mobilization with those stretching techniques showed more improved effects. CONCLUSIONS To prevent and treat GIRD and PST, sleeper stretching and cross-body stretching are recommended on throwing athletes with scapular stabilization and joint mobilization. Effect of Non-Dominant Resistance Training for Unilateral Athletes on Physical Balance and Isokinetic Muscular Function 单侧运动员非优势阻力训练对身体平衡和等速肌肉功能的影响

OBJECTIVES This study aimed investigates the effect of non-dominant resistance training on physical imbalance, and muscular function in unilateral athletes (badminton, tennis). METHODS Fifteen male unilateral sports plyer were randomly divided into non-dominant resistance training group (NRTG, n=8) and control group (CG, n=7). Exercise program performed for 60 min(warm-up 10 min, main exercise 40 min, cool down 10 min), three times a weeks. The isokinetic muscular function of knee and shoulder joint was measured pre (0 week) and post (8 weeks). RESULTS There was a significant different in isokinetic muscular function dominant and non-dominant (p<.05). Non-dominant resistance training program was effective in isokinetic muscular function (peak torque %BW, Total work %BW) in posttest than in pre-test (p<.05). And, was effective in improving shoulder joint isokinetic muscular function 600/sec, peak torque %BW (extension, flexion) in posttest than in pre-test (p<.05). In addition, knee isokinetic muscular function 1800/sec total work %BW (extension) the interaction effect was showed, and was effective 2400/sec total work %BW (flexor) (p<.05). CONCLUSIONS Non-dominant resistance training reduced right and left imbalances and improved isokinetic muscular function in unilateral athletes.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of physical activity and the handgrip strength in the elderly. METHODS Using the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Survey (KNHANES) 2017 dataset, we selected 1,427 participants aged 65 or older who without missing data. One-way batch analysis was used to determine the difference of handgrip strength according to the frequency of physical activity. If there was a difference between the groups, a post-test was conducted to confirm the statistical significance. The repeated measurement two-way ANOVA was performed to test mean difference between groups and measurements, and the effect of interactions between them on the significant level of α=.05. RESULTS The handgrip strength was higher in participants who reported higher physical activity frequency. In addition, the elderly women who participated in the higher moving place physical activity and walking exercise, and the elderly men who participated in the higher resistance training exercise, the handgrip strength was significantly higher. CONCLUSIONS We found that the higher frequency of physical activity may associated with higher handgrip strength in Korean elderly. However, because we did not consider the difference of total volume of physical activity in each group, further study is needed.

Effects of 8-week Intensity-Controlled Whole-body Vibration Exercise on Architectural Properties of the Ankle Plantar flexors in Elderly Women: A Randomized Controlled Trial 8周强度控制全身振动运动对老年女性踝关节足底屈肌结构特性的影响:一项随机对照试验

METHODS A randomized-controlled design was used. Three groups were recruited in this study (VI group (n=15, 69.5±3.9 years), ET Group (n=13, 68.5±4.0 years), CON Group (n=15, 69.9±3.3 years)). Ultrasound was used to measure the architecture parameters (pennation angle, fascicle length and muscle thickness) in the triceps surae muscles. And also, circumference of the lower leg was measured. During the 8-week exercise protocol, elderly women performed exercise program using their body weight on a whole-body vibration device (Pro6 power plate, Power plate International Ltd, UK). Changes in the muscle architecture and circumference were compared between groups by two-way repeated measures of ANOVA (2 groups x 4-time points, 3 groups x 2-time points), and an LSD post-hoc test and t-test were performed to determine significant differences between pairwise comparisons. The significance level was set at ⍺=.05.

Comparison of Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus, Medical Expenses, Inpatient, Emergency and Outpatient According to the Level of Physical Activity of Korean Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study 韩国成年人身体活动水平对糖尿病患病率、医疗费用、住院、急诊和门诊的影响:一项横断面研究

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this paper is to analyze the differences in the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, in relation to the physical activity grade and to compare differences in, personal medical expenses, the days of hospitalization, inpatient, outpatient and emergency. METHODS The medical panel data of Korea used in 2016, with a total of 13,523 adults and 1,404 diabetes mellitus patients. Physical activity level measured with IPAQ questionnaire, and displayed as MET-minutes per week. The days of hospitalization, personal medical expenses, using of inpatient, outpatient and emergency investigated, and frequency analysis, logistic regression, ANOVA, and Chi-square performed. RESULTS The prevalence of diabetes mellitus based on inactive group was reduced both minimally active group (odds ratio [OR] = 0.81) and active group (OR = 0.73, p<.01). The personal medical expenses I(p<.05) and II(p<.01) were all significantly different among each physical activities group. Medical expenses have increased by 33.3~35.1 % in minimally active group compared with active group, while inactive groups have increased rapidly by 58.8~65.6 %. There were significant differences in inpatient and emergency using depend on the level of physical activity. CONCLUSIONS The SEI could provide a relative evaluation of jumping performance depending on physical resources without consideration of physique.

Differences between Male and Female College Students in Dynamic Stability Change through Measuring Lower Extremity Muscle Fatigue 男女大学生下肢肌肉疲劳动态稳定性变化的差异

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze differences by gender, changes in dynamic stability due to lower extremity muscle fatigue. METHODS A total of 47 college-age students participated in the experiment. Subjects consisted of 29 males and 19 females. A muscle fatigue squat protocol with Smith machine and Y-balance Test was conducted and measurements were taken before and after the onset of fatigue. RESULTS There were statistically significant differences before and after fatigue in anterior right leg (p<.001), anterior left leg (p<.001), posteromedial right leg (p=.011), posteromedial left leg (p=.010), pesterolateral left leg (p=.014), total score right leg (p<.001) and total score left leg (p<.001), the only exception being posterolateral right leg (p=.057). The difference between male and female groups decreased in a statistically significant manner on posteromedial left leg (p=.045) and posterolateral right leg (p=.031). The effects of interaction between measurement periods did not represent statistically significant differences in all categories. CONCLUSIONS The result of this study represented a decrease in total score of Y-balance Test before and after the application of muscle fatigue. There were no gender differences in the dynamic stability of male and female subjects due to muscle fatigue.

Optimal Distance of The Long Jump Approach Run Calculated Using Quadratic Regression Equation Approximation in Female College Students Attending A Physical Education Class 用二次回归方程逼近法计算女大学生体育课跳远助跑最佳距离

OBJECTIVES This study aimed to examine whether the calculation-based distance (CBD) of approach run, which was obtained using quadratic regression equation approximation, was optimal for jump distance in running long jump in female college students attending a physical education activity class. METHODS Forty-seven healthy female college students (17.2 ± 0.4 years) were included in the study. The CBDs were calculated by themselves using a graphing calculator as their learning activity. CBDs were based on four jump distances and approach-run distances (including self-selected distance [SSD]). RESULTS There was no significant difference between maximal SSD (JDSSD) and maximal CBD (JDCBD). There was no significant difference between SSD and CBD. Moreover, on average, there was no significant difference between JDSSD and JDCBD. From the viewpoint of individual differences of delta in JDCBD−JDSSD, the association with the speed-effectiveness index (SEI), as one of the jump skill metric, was investigated. The correlation coefficient between SEI and delta in JDCBD−JDSSD was not significant. CONCLUSION In this study, female college students would determine SSD as much as theoretical optimal approach-run distance (CBD) derived by their own quadratic regression model in spite of their jump skill.
