Investigation into the accuracy of subjective load parameters in comparison to analytical load measurements in NCAA Division I women’s volleyball 对NCAA女子排球赛主观负荷参数与分析负荷测量的准确性进行了比较研究

Monitoring athletes’ workload has become common practice in sports and differs depending on the sport’s physical demands. Within volleyball, an inertial measurement unit can be utilized to track the number of jumps performed by players. However, other methods of measuring jump frequency are needed for teams without access to this equipment. The purpose of this study was to determine if volleyball athletes can accurately predict the number of jumps performed after training and matches when given a perceptual scale and if player position, session rating of perceived exertion (sRPE), and perceived sets played affected the players’ accuracy. Less than half of the team’s jump count estimations (23.2%) were within 25 of the actual number of jumps and over half of the players’ responses (58%) were within 50 of the measured number of jumps. A generalized estimating equation (GEE) with a binary response was used to investigate the impact of position, sRPE, and sets played. Position was the only variable to have a significant impact on jump count accuracy. Based on these results, a perceptual scale could be useful in better understanding players’ jump counts following training, but number of jumps allotted to each jump range and position could impact accuracy.

Effects of increasing physical load and fatigue on the biomechanics of elite cyclists 增加体力负荷和疲劳对优秀自行车运动员生物力学的影响

In this study, we propose to expand the research on the biomechanics of cycling, including changes caused by riding at different intensity levels and fatigue, similar to training or competition. Six well-trained, experienced male road cyclists (27.17 ± 3.89 years; 180.41 ± 5.31 cm; 75.23 ± 4.91 kg) with 8.3 ± 4.85 years of (professional) experience in road cycling underwent a lactate test, starting with 100 W and an increment of 20 W every 3 minutes until total exhaustion. Afterward, subjects drove an increment of 50 W every 3 minutes, starting again with 100 W and ending with 250 W (post-test). Changes in position were recorded via 2D video analysis. We found that with higher power output relative to the individual anaerobic threshold (IAT), the joint angles changed. No significant differences were present for the pre–post comparisons of the examined angles, which should map the influence of fatigue (p > .05). Future research should try to observe cycling movement in more realistic settings, such as cycling-specific fatigue or during an outdoor ride, as the biomechanics under these conditions are of particularly high relevance for the athletes. Overall, the results suggest performing bike fitting more individually and in more realistic situations or setting.

Evaluation of the effects of commercial Moringa Oleifera supplement on physical fitness of young fit adults 市售辣木补充剂对青壮年体质影响的评价

Background. The Moringa oleifera (Moringa) nutritional supplement is often used for medicinal purposes due to its acclaimed healing abilities. Indeed, research indicates that Moringa possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and has the potential of being an ergogenic substance by enhancing energy metabolism. Yet, despite numerous manufacturers producing Moringa-based supplements, little scientific research has been conducted on humans. Aims. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the effects of Moringa as an ergogenic aid in improving aerobic and anaerobic exercise performance in healthy young fit subjects. Methods. A randomized, double-blind controlled study was performed to evaluate Moringa supplement compared to placebo. The study included 16 healthy young male and female, age 26.6 ± 3.0 years physical education college students. Participants were evaluated before and after six weeks of intervention of Moringa (310 mg x 2) or placebo capsules. Participants were measured for body composition, resting blood pressure (BP), resting heart rate (HR), graded cardiopulmonary test on a treadmill until reaching maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) and maximal anaerobic Wingate bicycle test. Results. There were no differences in physiological or physical performances between the two groups before and after the intervention. Conclusions. Despite promising indications of positive effects of Moringa plant on physiological processes, there was no effect on physical activity performance. As such, the administering of Moringa for improving athletic performance should be taken with caution. Further studies should be conducted to examine the effects of the Moringa plant on human performance in other populations.

Special training of highway cyclists considering energy metabolism types 考虑能量代谢类型的公路骑行者的特殊训练

The competitive activity of racers on the highway makes high demands on the level of their physical fitness, since the competition can be held in the form of a multi-day race. The training of road racers is based on the development of physical qualities, among which the most important for them are different types of endurance. The development of these qualities is possible only with a purposeful impact on their physiological systems and, in particular, on the mechanisms of energy supply of muscle activity. The analysis of the literature showed that in most of the works devoted to the preparation of racers on the highway, there is no necessary scientific information characterizing the features of the energy supply of their muscular activity during preparation for multi-day races. This greatly limits the possibilities for differentiating the means and methods of developing different types of endurance in the process of training. The issues of application of methods for the development of endurance among racers on the highway, where the differentiation criterion would be different types of energy metabolism, are also insufficiently developed. The existing system of preparation of racers on the highway for competitions is characterized by insufficient consideration of the peculiarities of the mechanism of energy supply of muscular activity in the training process. Its main drawback is its general approach to training road riders. Coaches in their work with athletes are guided solely by their personal experience of preparing road riders for competitions.

School social climate and personal and social responsiblity of high school students in secondary school according to their motivational profile 学校社会氛围与中学生个人社会责任的关系

The aim of the present study was to analyze the motivational profile of high school students and how it was related to responsibility, basic psychological needs and school social climate, as well as to assess gender differences. For this purpose, a total sample of 302 students (M = 14.48; SD = 1.40) participated and were administered a multiple-choice questionnaire, where, in turn, gender and date of birth were asked. A profile analysis was performance using Ward’s method and k-means using the motivation scale (intrinsic motivation, identified, introjected and external regulation, amotivation) as variables for its elaboration. Two cluster profiles were finally created and named: a) “high motivation and low amotivation” (n = 212); b) “low motivation and high amotivation” (n = 95).  Next, a multivariate analysis was performed, which showed that high motivation profile had statistically significant results at p < .001, higher in the satisfaction of the basic psychological needs of autonomy, competence and relatedness, personal and social responsibility and school social climate. On the other hand, attending to gender, no significant differences were found in the number of students in the profiles after analyzing the standardized residuals. It is concluded that an increase in self-determined motivation can be associated to an improvement in basic psychological needs, responsibility and school social climate, regardless of the student’s gender.

Estimation of exercise tolerance in bike track racing based on analysis of heart rate variability in athletes of various level of training 基于不同训练水平运动员心率变异性分析的自行车跑道比赛运动耐量估算

Assessment of the tolerance of the training load by cyclists who participate in track races is a significant indicator of the adaptive reactivity of the athletes' bodies. The circulatory system of athletes, during cycling races on the track, is subject to colossal functional loads, both during training work and during competitions. The basis of the training process of female cyclists is adaptation to the effects of physical activity, which has a stimulating effect on the course of adaptive reactions of the organism of female athletes in preparation for the competition. A necessary list of heart rate variability indices has been formed, characterizing the degree of tolerance of the training load by cyclists during preparation for competitions on the track. A procedure has been developed for testing the characteristics of the heart rate variability at rest and during the aftereffect of physical activity on the body of cyclists. The results of the influence of the nervous and hormonal regulation of the heart rate on the fitness state of female cyclists are presented. It has been proven that the main indicator of the fitness level of female cyclists is the synchronization of the influence of the nervous and hormonal components of the regulation of the heart rate. The results obtained allow us to recommend the assessment of the degree of synchronization of the nervous and hormonal components of the regulation of the heart rate as the main indicator of the exercise tolerance of cyclists.

The basis of the training process of female cyclists is adaptation to the effects of physical activity, which has a stimulating effect on the course of adaptive reactions of the organism of female athletes in preparation for the competition. A necessary list of heart rate variability indices has been formed, characterizing the degree of tolerance of the training load by cyclists during preparation for competitions on the track. A procedure has been developed for testing the characteristics of the heart rate variability at rest and during the aftereffect of physical activity on the body of cyclists. The results of the influence of the nervous and hormonal regulation of the heart rate on the fitness state of female cyclists are presented. It has been proven that the main indicator of the fitness level of female cyclists is the synchronization of the influence of the nervous and hormonal components of the regulation of the heart rate. Comparison of the effectiveness of general educational and specially directed methods of physical education in relation to a healthy lifestyle is carried out. During the study, it was proved that pedagogical activity, specially organized for the formation of a healthy lifestyle among junior schoolchildren of physical culture, increasing students' interest in their health; forms an emotionally positive attitude towards one's health; will contribute to the assimilation of knowledge about a healthy lifestyle and their application in practice.

Exploring physical activity of female secondary school students from selected regions of Slovakia 探索斯洛伐克选定地区女中学生的体育活动

The aim of study was to analyse and compare physical activity of female secondary school students from selected regions of Slovakia. The study group consisted of 1,972 female secondary school students from grammar and vocational schools from five regions of Slovakia. The study data were analysed for each region by using chi-square test at p < .01, p < .05. During the work week, 52.43% of study group have on average 1 to 3 hours of leisure time. The most significant difference in the amount of leisure time, between the work week and the weekend, was recorded in the Banská Bystrica Region, Košice Region, Prešov Region and Žilina Region with 40% of the female students stating that they have more than 5 hours/ day of leisure time at the weekend. Within the Bratislava Region, the amount of weekend leisure time only increased by 11% (p < .01). The female students from the Bratislava Region predominantly (60.62%) spend their leisure time passively, while most of female students from the Banská Bystrica Region (56.57%) and Košice Region (60.25%) spend their leisure time actively. Significant differences between the female students from the Bratislava Region and female students from the other regions were also recorded in other areas (p < .01, p < .05).

Gateways and gatekeepers: Two factors that influence the use of performance and image enhancing drugs (PIEDs) among UK military veterans 门户和看门人:影响英国退伍军人使用性能和形象增强药物(PIEDs)的两个因素

Recent reports have identified that PIEDs use is rising within the Armed Forces leading to concerns over health and concomitant operational risks. The aim of this study was to identify the roles of gateways and gatekeepers on PIEDs use among a cohort of UK military veterans. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 ex-Service personnel. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and thematically analysed using NVivo12 software. Common themes were identified around the ways in which the veterans were introduced to PIEDs and how they accessed them. Gateways consisted of two categories of Circumstances and Behaviour, including excessive gym use, the need to cope with fitness demands of military service, overseas deployment, and previous experiences with nutritional and body-building supplements. Gatekeepers included friends, colleagues, and mentors and their roles were captured in two categories of Procurement of PIEDs and Information Dissemination. Recommendations include the need for further research on the roles of gatekeepers and gateways as important pathways to PIEDS use. Additionally, there is a need to build on themes suggested by earlier researchers to identify social, cultural, and economic factors that underpin motives for PIEDs use in the uniformed services. These two recommendations would inform the design and evaluation of PIEDs-related interventions.

Health in digital environment 数字环境下的健康

Office work is associated with movement restrictions, muscle stress, burnout and other risk factors that negatively affect the health of working - age people. The coronavirus epidemic has changed the labor market: neither employers nor employees were prepared to tackle the challenges of moving to remote work. Therefore, search for solutions to preserve health of remote workers in the context of self-isolation and digital transformation is a priority medical and social task. Pilot research for examination of the office-workers state included interviews, psychological, neurological tests and methods of instrumental visualization. The aim of the study was to identify the signs of the emotional impact of remote work and develop exercises to prevent physical inactivity, as well as technologies for monitoring of individuals’ health. The survey revealed that 80% of office workers have stress and burnout in an epidemic situation, as well as a loss of interest in work and professional achievements. Burnout was accompanied with increased irritability, sleep disorders.  Neurological examination revealed muscle spasms and “tunnel” neurovascular disorders in the cervical spine and postural displacement in all persons. Electrophysiological research indicated cerebral acidosis and brain hypoxia in 50% of examined individuals. The programs for postural correction and cerebral metabolism included special coordination and breathing exercises. Recommendations to healthy lifestyle and workplace reorganization were given to all persons. Digital transformation is a challenge that requires changes in legal, organizational, psychological and infrastructural approaches to preserve the health of remote workers in the new environment.
