Poor interprofessional communication has been linked to decreased quality of patient care and increased numbers of medical errors. Increased occupational stress due to lack of effective interprofessional communication can lead to poor job satisfaction and burnout. The purpose of this study was to identify barriers to interprofessional communication as perceived by radiologic technologists. In particular, how did demographic data influence these perceptions? The research was conducted during June of 2009. The population for this survey consisted of registered radiologic technologists employed at hospitals in Northeast Tennessee. A locally developed survey questionnaire covering the subject of interprofessional communication was distributed to a cluster sample directly involved in patient care. Participants indicated that interprofessional communication effects their occupational stress and job satisfaction in addition to the quality of patient care. This analysis revealed that radiographers experienced the most difficulty communicating with nurses.

Low back pain is the most common pain syndrome and a global health burden. The etiology in most cases is multifactorial and the facet joints can be a source of low back pain. Radiofrequency denervation showed efficacy in open as well as in placebocontrolled trials and could be a treatment option in carefully selected patients. In this review the anatomy of the facet joints, the pathophysiology and diagnosis of facet joint syndrome in chronic low back pain and results of radiofrequency denevervation are discussed, with emphasize on the recently published literature.

Background: In the United States, there are on average, 200,000 cases of breast cancer diagnosed each year. Research studies conducted by the National Cancer Institute have estimated that one out of every eight women in the United States (12.5%) will develop breast cancer during her lifetime, with the highest percentage of women diagnosed between ages 40 and 50. Due to the good prognosis of early detection, much research has recently surfaced on the efficacy of diagnostic testing of cancerous breast tissue. However, research has shown that up to 4% of breast cancers are missed, and a major factor is the lack of comparison mammogram. Methods: A one page anonymous survey was sent to licensed Florida Radiologists using randomization provided by Medical Marketing Services, Inc (MMS). The number of radiologists registered within the MMS database in the state of Florida is 98. A number of surveys were also sent to radiologists working within the Memorial Healthcare System of Broward County, FL. The total number of responses collected was 22. Results: According to the collected data, forty-one percent of Florida radiologists review mammograms in their practice. Twenty-three percent of radiologists review mammograms more than half the time, while eighteen percent review mammograms less than half the time. Of the Florida radiologists who review mammograms, ninety-five percent believe that comparing past mammograms is very important in making a correct diagnosis. However, twenty-two percent of those radiologists never compare past films. Twenty-four percent of Florida radiologists reading mammograms have been sued for malpractice at least one time. There is a strong inverse relationship between comparing mammograms and likelihood to be sued. Florida radiologists who think comparing mammograms is “very important” were less likely to be sued for malpractice (R = 0.99, p < 0.0001). Conclusions: The objective of the study was to establish a relationship between mammogram comparison and misdiagnosis rates of breast cancer. The results show a strong inverse relationship, in that an increase of mammogram comparison will likely decrease the failure to diagnose breast cancer. Since radiologists agree that comparing mammograms is essential, comparison must be emphasized in continuing educational courses and must be made part of routine procedure. Moreover, primary care physicians must educate their patients as to the importance of having past mammograms in their possession so that present and future mammograms can be compared.

Objectives: We describe the application of fundamental quality improvement methods to medical handoffs in order to improve resident learning and clinical training. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 226 non-traumatic SAH patients admitted to our institution from January 1, 2007 to June 1, 2009. Imaging data were abstracted from medical charts. Results: Of the 226 SAH patients, 45 (19.9%) had no aneurysm on initial angiography. Of these angiogram-negative SAH patients, 12 (26.7%) were perimesencephalic SAH and 33 (73.3%) were NPAN-SAH. An average of 3.2 non-invasive studies was performed on each patient. In these 142 additional non-invasive studies, there was no additional diagnostic yield in finding the source of SAH.Conclusions: Though non-perimesencephalic angiogram-negative SAH had a worse prognosis compared to perimesencephalic SAH, additional non-invasive neuroimaging provided no diagnostic yield in either patient population.

We report two cases of Pellegrini-Stieda Syndrome (PSS) following trauma to the knee. One of the two cases had computed tomography (CT) scan and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in addition to the x-ray examinations of the knee. We suggest further imaging evaluation of soft tissue calcifications in the region of the medial femoral epicondyle with MRI, especially if pain and some limitation of movement are observed. We report these two cases because of the rarity of the condition, and to highlight the importance of MRI in the anatomical delineation of the lesion, even in a developing country.

High-resolution sonography is a simple, widely available, inexpensive and non-irradiating, noninvasive, practicable, repeatable, enables rapid evaluation and is widely accepted as the method of choice for screening and diagnosis of spectrum of scrotal pathologies. When color Doppler and power Doppler imaging are added, testicular perfusion can be assessed, [1] which provides valuable information in assessment of the acute painful scrotum in addition to scrotal masses and male infertility. This pictorial essay reviews a spectrum of appearance of common and rare cases scrotal pathologies.

We present a case of Polycythemia secondary to a congenital cardiac anomaly presenting with acute neurological complications showing hyperdense venous sinuses and cerebral vasculature in association with a cerebral abscess. INTRODUCTION Neurological conditions associated with Polycythemia may warrant an emergency non contrast CT scan of the head. The unique findings associated with Polycythemia have not been well characterized in literature. We present a case of Polycythemia associated with hyperdense dural venous sinuses and cerebral vasculature hence simulating the appearance of a contrast enhanced CT on Plain CT films. CASE REPORT A 27 year old male patient presented to our emergency with history of fever and headache for the past 4 days with altered sensorium for 2 days and a brief episode of loss of consciousness two days back. Patient had a history of breathlessness on and off since three years of age. He was diagnosed as a case of heart disease but financial constraints prevented timely treatment. Examination revealed central cyanosis , rt hemiparesis and a pansystolic murmur over the epicardium. NCCT findings were suggestive of a left temporoparietal cerebral abscess associated with hyperdensity of all cerebral venous sinuses and cerebral vasculature. (patient had not been given any intravenous contrast agents ). Figure 1

Spontaneous regression of a herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP) occurs where intervertebral disc herniation loses its volume partly or totally without surgical interventions. In 1985, Teplick and Haskin first documented the spontaneous resolution of lumbar disc by computerized tomography and they reported that 9 out of their 55 patients harboring lumbar disc herniation showed spontaneous regression. The gold standard modality for visualizing the herniated disc is MRI these days. The following case reports the MRI documentation of spontaneous disappearance of acute lumbar disc extrusion in a patient treated conservatively.

Maxillomandibular Ameloblastoma (A) is a slow growing but locally aggressive odontogenic tumour with a high recurrence rate, which can cause severe facial disfigurement and functional impairment. We report a case of histologically confirmed giant multicystic maxillomandibular A with intracranial extension in a 35-yearold woman of the Yoruba ethnic group in Nigeria, which measured 24 x 19 x 15 cm in diameter. Intracranial extension of the multicystic subtype of A is extremely rare. This to the best of our knowledge is probably the sixth recorded intracranial extension of a multicystic A. She had a recurrence after a year of mandibulectomy. She delayed to seek medical attention for five years after the recurrence, during which the A grew to an enormous size with the complaints of pain, severe headache and loss of vision in the right eye. The radiologist plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of A. We advocate early radical surgery from the onset to prevent recurrence in multicystic A, and long term follow-up for early detection of possible relapses.
