Clinical Overview Of IMAC Systems IMAC系统的临床概况

The clinical aspects of the development and use of IMAC systems must be examined from the standpoint of both the staff in the department which creates the images (such as radiologists, pathologists, and their professional and technical colleagues) and from the standpoint of both professional and technical staff in departments which use the images, encompassing many of the other departments of the hospital. The need for IMAC pervades all these departments, and presents many common threads in terms of capability requirements. In the final analysis, the patient is the ultimate beneficiary of the results of IMAC, and this benefit is often achieved by the primary care physician, building on the efforts of others who have brought the image and its associated information to him or her in the appropriate context.

In order to better understand the potential viability of Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) as an addition to the operating environment of hospitals and clinics, the cost and economic implications of these systems must be evaluated. Principles And Problems Of Technology Assessment; The Case Of Picture Archiving And Communication Systems 技术评价的原则与问题图片存档和通信系统的案例

This paper discusses some of the key conceptual issues underlying technology assessment, particularly as related to PACS technology. Basic issues of technology assessment such as efficacy, effectiveness, and efficiency, as well as the assessment objectives relating to the adoption, abandonment and appropriateness of technology, are presented and related to the needs of hospital management and medical imaging professionals. The example of PACS technology is used to illustrate the special needs in the general technology assessment methodology which are imposed when evaluating diagnostic imaging systems.

Radiology has witnessed dramatic in its imaging technology and in the infomation management and image management technology to support it. These have resulted to some extent in a preoccupation of the field with all of its technology, and with its internal operations. Yet the practice of medicine has undergone considerable change over this same period, precipitated to some extent by the high cost of the technology. This, among other factors, has brought about increased need for the radiologist to become more clinically active in helping to determine the rational use of imaging procedures and to aid in the interpretation of them. A re-examination of the radiologic process reveals many levels in whicn closer coupling between clinical and radiologic activities would be beneficial. A variety of computer tools can be useful in facilitating this. In particular, as guidelines and protocols for clinical care become increasingly integrated into practice, research and development focused in this area by radiologists and their biostatistical and decision Science collaborators should be of high priority.

Static And Dynamic Imaging In Pathology 病理学中的静态和动态成像

Advances in video microscopy, computer sciences and robotic light microscopy have paved the way for the development of static and dynamic electronic imaging in pathology. As in other image oriented medical specialties including radiology, these developments herald the development of the fully digital laboratory in the future. Static and dynomic imaging systems have been constructed, installed and successfully tested in hospitals. Static and dynomic imaging in pathology represent ways to address the problem of maldistributim of specialty pathology services and to provide primary pathology diagnostic services in rural areas. These technologies are also valuable for consultation and for educational programs. Because of the high information density in pathology specimens as compared with radiograms, image storage and image transport in pathology represent special challenges to video and communications engineers.

As is well known, the screen/film combination technique has entered the mainstream of radiography to date. The objective of computed radiography (CR), in which stimulable phosphor is used as an X-ray sensor, lies in constructing an excellent X-ray diagnostic system by combining the highly advanced photographic technology with digital computer technology. This technique was first presented at the International Congress of Radiology held in Brussels, Belgium in 1981, and has already found wide clinical use as a digital X-ray imaging modality capable of replacing the established screen/film radiography technique. In addition, there is considerable anticipation that it will serve as an important component in playing a crucial role in the Image Management And Communication (IMAC) system.
