This case report deals with 17-year old female who was diagnosed as having gingival melanotic macule at the gingiva of the tooth number 21, 22 and 23 on labial and palatal aspects. Gingival melanotic macule is pathological condition of melanin pigment accumulation or melanin pigment production. The black area was enlarging, although the gingival architecture was in physiologic condition. It was treated by the method of free autogenous gingival graft on the labial side and gingivectomy by flap on the palatal side.

Hemophilia, the most common of the inherited bleeding disorder, is the result of a deficiency of clotting factor. Its characteristic is easy to bleed, prolong bleeding, and difficult to stop bleeding. In order to give dental treatment to the patient with this disease, consultation with the patient's physician is necessary. In addition, dentist should know the prevention and control of hemorrhage after treatment.

A rare case of large idiopathic gingival fibromatosis of right maxilla and mandible with extensive osseous destruction is presented. Following examination and definitive diagnosis the patient was treated by gingivectomy and tooth extraction. A denture was substituted at a subsequent time. The patient has been followed for a period of 1 year with satisfactory results.

A large number of local anesthetics has been marketed for clinical use. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of nine local anesthetics used in dentistry. After subcutaneous injection of 0.1 ml of local anesthetic into the guinea pig's back, the onset and duration of action were determined by stimulating with an electric current. The onset of action of these local anesthetics occurred immediately. But the duration of action was statistically significant different (P less than 0.01, ANOVA and Duncan's New Multiple Range Test). The duration of action ranging from 7.0 to 73.2 minutes was divided into 5 groups as the following: 1. Benadryl and Xylocaine plane. 2. Xylocaine plane and Lidocaton. 3. Citanest and Octocaine. 4. Octocaine and Neo-lidocaton. 5. Neo-lidocaton, Xylestesin-F, Xylocaine c noradrenaline 1:50,000 and Xylocaine c adrenaline 1:80,000. The result of this study will be useful for the dentists to select the appropriate local anesthetics for their treatment.

Two cases, mental retarded patients, who had abnormalities of upper anterior teeth were reported. These abnormalities had a significant social and psychological effect upon individual reaching the adolescent and young adult age group. This effect would deviate one's behaviors form the norm which would be an important obstacle in occupational rehabilitation for the mental retarded patients. After the correction of these abnormalities with fixed partial denture, these two patients were markedly improved in their mental health and in their co-operation during the rehabilitation. Therefore, they could achieve their goal in being useful and independence. This report indicated that dentist had a major role in the improvement of mental retarded patient's mental health.

Combined Simple Technic of Local Anesthesia, 2% of Lidocaine HCl 1.8 CC. was use in the Dental Clinic of Ubol Hospital & Mobile dental unit, for more than 20 years. All lower teeth could be extracted in 3 minutes, faster than the Mandibular N: Block only, the side effect, complication, and post extraction pain were found to be the same. The results showed markedly improvement of the efficiency of the Dental Services.

The project was designed to study the efficiency of the Manual Processing Solution produced by Department of Radiological Technology, Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University. (Product Solution). It was divided into 2 parts. 1) to determine the numbers of satisfactory radiographs that could be produced before degradation of the solution occurred. 2) to compare the diagnostic quality of 150 radiographs processed by the Product Solution and Kodak Solution. It was indicated that in view of 50 radiographs processed during the experiment, the 120 ml. Product solution seem to be capable of processing radiographs of satisfactory quality for five days. Clinical comparison between 150 radiographs developed by the two solutions using difference developing time was indicated equal radiographic quality of both solutions during the developing time between 2-4 minutes.

The effect of pH on intestinal fluoride (F) absorption was investigated in vitro using isolated segments of dog jejunum in a 2-chamber system. The pH of the mucosal buffer was varied in the range 6.5-8.2, and F concentration in the range 0.11-1.1 mM (2.1-21 ppm F). The serosal buffer was held constant at pH 7.5. No effect of pH within this physiological range was observed on F transport across the intestinal segment. Much lower pH values on the mucosal side inhibited F transport, but this appeared to be secondary to toxic effects on the epithelium, including an inhibition of water transport. Within the range tested, no evidence was found supporting the concept that F transport across intestinal epithelium occurs as the undissociated hydrogen fluoride (HF).

Size of central incisors is a significant factor in selection of anterior teeth for all types of dentures. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the width of maxillary central incisors and philtrum. The average width of the central incisors and philtrum observed in male subjects were 8.510 mm. (right), 8.516 mm. (left) and 14.105 mm. Those in female subjects were 8.280 mm. (right), 8.293 mm. (left) and 12.271 mm. There was a significant difference (p less than 0.05) in size between the width of each central incisor and philtrum for either male or female subjects. However, there was a direct correlation between the width of the central incisors and philtrum in these 200 subjects (p less than 0.05).
