Marbofloxacin (MBX) is an antimicrobial for exclusive veterinary use, relatively new and of which there are few analytical methods for the extraction, identification and quantification in plasma and edible tissues (muscle, liver, kidney, lung, skin) in broiler chickens. The objective of developing a simple, sensitive and efficient extraction and detection method through highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection. For the preparation of the samples, known concentrations of MBX, enrofloxacin (ENX) as internal standard, methanol, water and perchloric acid, were added to plasma or tissues. Chromatographic conditions were: fluorescence detector at λex 295 and λem 490 nm, mobile phase composed of deionized water, acetonitrile and triethylamine adjusted to pH 3.0. For all matrices, the method was linear (r= 0.99) for MAR concentrations (0.039 to 2.5 μg/ml or gr), with an average retention time for MBX in the different matrices of 3.97 ± 0.144 minutes, and 4.99 ± 0.24 minutes for the internal standard (enrofloxacin). Detection limit in all matrices was less than 0.006 μg/ml, while recoverability percentage was 89 ± 4.65% and variation coefficients in intraday-interday assay ≤ 1.4%, determining the accuracy of the study. The analytical method applied is efficient, sensitive and reliable for future residue determinations or pharmacokinetic studies of marbofloxacin in plasma, muscle, liver, kidney, skin and lung in broiler chickens.

Solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) films were developed from poly(L-lactic acid)-poly(propylene glycol) (PLLA-PPG) with ethylene carbonate (EC) or propylene carbonate (PC) as plasticizer and lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) salt using solution casting method. The conductivity behaviours of the samples prepared were studied by electron impedance spectroscopy (EIS). From the EIS analysis, PLLA-PPG with 30 wt.% of EC and 25 wt.% of LiClO4 shows the highest conductivity value of 4.57 × 10 -5 S cm at room temperature. The attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) confirm that there is chemical interaction between polymer host and lithium cation from lithium perchlorate. The shift of wavenumber for carbonyl (C=O) and ether (C-O-C) can be seen in ATR-FTIR spectrum. The crystallinity of PLLA was studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The absence of diffraction peaks corresponding to LiClO4 in SPE, which indicates that LiClO4 solvates well in the PLLA-PPG film. Thermal study by TGA indicated that PLLA-PPG SPE was thermally stable up to 270 oC.

Phenolics content of two roselle varieties, H. sabdariffa var. UKMR-2 and H. sabdariffa var. UMKL-1 was determined based on high performance liquid chromatography method using a photodiode array detector (HPLC-PDA) with gradient elution. Roselle calyces were extracted with water via sonication (50 C, 30 minutes). The chromatographic separation was carried out on Purospher STAR RP-18e LichroCART column (250 mm × 4.6 mm × 5 μm) and detection was carried out at three different wavelengths (265, 320 and 520 nm). The developed HPLC method provided high percentage of recovery (95 102%), good linearity at R > 0.99, low limit of detection (LOD) and low limit of quantitation (LOQ). Two predominant anthocyanins were detected by HPLC-PDA in both H. sabdariffa varieties and were identified as delphinidin-3-O-sambubioside and cyanidin-3-Osambubioside. In addition, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid and ascorbic acid were also detected. High content of phenolics and ascorbic acid were detected in UKMR-2 as compared to UMKL-1, suggested this variety have high potential for commercial cultivation.
