THE EFFECT USING STORY COMPLETION ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL TO ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK SWASTA YPIS MAJU BINJAI 用故事补全法对小学一年级学生口语能力的影响

The research aims to find out the effect of using story completion on students’ speaking skill to eleventh grade students of SMK Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai at academic year 2020/2021. The problems that had been identified by the researcher are including that students were not interested in learning English. This research uses narrative text with oral test. This type of research is an experiment research. The populations of this research were students of the eleventh grade students of SMK Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai which consisted of five classes of the eleventh grade. The sample of the research consisted of 42 students. The study was an experiment and control research, the experiment class is XI TKJ and the control class XI AKL.  The test was used in the pre-test and post-test. After that, the data has been computed by using t-test, it showed that tvalue was 11,797. The experimental class, standard deviation was 2, 81 and the control class, standard deviation was 2, 45. Then, after looking of distribution table value in certain degree of freedom (df), the result showed that the degree of freedom was 42 (n - 2 = 42-2 = 40). The value of table in line 40 was 2,021 at level significance 0, 05. This remarked that tvalue was higher than t- table (11,797 > 2,021). The hypothesis was accepted. It means that there was a significant effect of using story completion on students’ speaking skill to eleventh grade students of Smk Swasta Ypis Maju Binjai at academic year 2020/2021.

THE EFFECT OF USING MIND MAPPING TECHNIQUE ON WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT THE TENTH GRADE STUDENT’S OF SMA TAMAN SISWA BINJAI 思维导图技术在小学十年级学生描述性文字写作中的效果

The objective of this resarch was to find out the effect of using mind mapping technique on students’ writing descriptive text. This study applied quasi-experimental research. This study was conducted  of the tenth grade students’ of  SMA Swasta Taman Siswa Binjai as the population study. The sample was taken by using cluster random sampling, with 70 students as the sample. As the experimental class, the writer used class X-IPS 1 which consisted of 35 students and for the controlled class, the writer used class X-IPA 2 that consist of 35 students. The data collected from this study were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result from calculating the data was found that the value of t-observed ( ) was higher than the value of t-table ( ). The result  of  was  4,05 since the    in degree  of significant 5% was 1,66. It shows that the comparison of and   was 4,05  1,66. Therefore the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In other words, there was an effect of using mind mapping technique on writing descriptive text at the tenth grade students’ of SMA Swasta Taman Siswa Binjai.
本研究的目的是了解思维导图技巧对学生写作描述性文本的影响。本研究采用准实验研究。本研究以SMA Swasta Taman Siswa Binjai的十年级学生为人口研究对象。样本采用整群随机抽样,以70名学生为样本。作为实验班,笔者使用了x - ips1班35名学生,作为对照班,笔者使用了x - ipa2班35名学生。本研究收集的数据采用t检验公式进行分析。计算数据的结果发现,t-observed()的值高于t-table()的值。结果为4,05,因为显著性5%的程度为1,66。结果表明,和的比较值分别为4、05、1、66。因此,备择假设(Ha)被接受,零假设(Ho)被拒绝。也就是说,思维导图技术对SMA - Swasta - Taman - Siswa - Binjai小学十年级学生的描述性文字写作有影响。

The objective of this study is to find out the effect of using GRASP Strategy on The Students Ability in Reading Comprehension at Narrative Text of Eleventh Grade Student of SMK Tamansiswa Binjai. This quantitative research used experimental study and took samples by cluster random sampling technique. The samples were consisted of two groups, they were class XI RPL which consist of 32 students as experimental group and class XI TKJ-2 which consist of 32 students as control group at SMK Tamansiswa Binjai. The writer used multiple choice test as the instrument of collecting data. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the value of t-observed (t0) was higher than the value of t-table, (t0 = 7.24 > tt = 1.669). Therefore, the hypothesis proposed by the writer was accepted. In other words, using GRASP Strategy significantly affects the students’ reading skill of the eleventh grade students at SMK Tamansiswa Binjai.
本研究的目的是为了了解运用掌握策略对SMK塔曼西瓦·宾加伊高中一年级学生叙事文本阅读理解能力的影响。本定量研究采用实验研究方法,采用整群随机抽样方法。作者使用多项选择测验作为收集数据的工具。数据采用t检验公式进行分析。通过数据分析,发现t-observed值(t0)高于t-table值(t0 = 7.24 > tt = 1.669)。因此,作者提出的假设被接受。也就是说,使用GRASP策略显著影响了SMK Tamansiswa Binjai高中11年级学生的阅读技能。

THE STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN LEARNING ENGLISH AT MADRASAH IBTIDAIYAH TEACHER EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM 伊斯兰学校教师教育项目中学生学习英语的困难

English is one of compulsory subjects that must be learned by students of elementary school to collage level. In fact, some students have difficulty in learning English. This study aims to describe the factors affect students’ difficulties in learning English. The subjects of the study were 30 students of the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Teacher Education Study Program at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara. This study applied a qualitative descriptive research with a questionnaire and observation instruments. The data analysis of this study used interview, observation, documentation and triangulation. The researchers found that there are two difficulties factors in learning English particularly internal factors and external factors, including 1) students’ low motivation; 2) lack of understanding of the importance in learning English (3) lack of opportunities to learn English (4) Lack of environment supports such as parents, friends, etc.Keywords: Learning difficulties, factors of difficulties in learning English
英语是小学到大学阶段学生的必修课之一。事实上,有些学生在学习英语方面有困难。本研究旨在描述影响学生英语学习困难的因素。这项研究的对象是苏门答腊北部伊斯兰大学伊斯兰教教师教育研究项目的30名学生。本研究采用定性描述性研究,采用问卷调查法和观察法。本研究的数据分析采用访谈法、观察法、文献法和三角法。研究人员发现,英语学习中存在两种困难因素,特别是内部因素和外部因素,包括1)学生的学习动机低;2)缺乏对学习英语重要性的认识(3)缺乏学习英语的机会(4)缺乏环境支持,如父母、朋友等。关键词:学习困难,英语学习困难的因素

SLANG WORDS USED BY MILLENNIAL GENERATION IN INSTAGRAM 千禧一代在instagram上使用的俚语

Indonesia recognizes that Bahasa as a national language which has function as unity language for its society. In fact, the tendency of society especially millennial generation used slang in daily conversation is higher than used Bahasa itself. This study aims to analyse the phenomenon of slang words used by millennial generation in Instagram. The scope of this study is to investigate types of slang used by millennial generation in Instagram, how the meaning of slang words used by millennial generation in Instagram and why millennial generation used slang words in Instagram. Descriptive qualitative research was applied in this study and obtained the data from the discourse of 30 millennial generations in Instagram. The data was obtained from observation, interview and documentation. The result of the data showed that millennial generation used slang words in their communication in Instagram namely there were 31 slang words found in their caption in Instagram. These words contained five types of slang; fresh and creative; flippant; imitative; acronym; and clipping. The millennial generation used slang in Instagram because some reasons such as to address, to initiate relax conversation, to humiliate, to express impression and to show intimacy.    Keywords: Slang, Types of slang, Reasons of slang, millennial generation

This research is conducted in order to improve students’ writing ability uing Round Table Technique at Nineth grade of SMP Pabaku Stabat. The study is concerning with experimental study which discussed the effect of round table technique on students’ ability in writing report text. It took place at SMP Pabaku Stabat. The subjects were the nineth grade students with the population of 132 students. 72 students were chosen as the sample and group into experimental and control group. Each group consisted of 36 students. The experimental group was taught with round table technique while the control one was taught without round table technique. A writing test was used to collect the data on the students’ writing ability. The data collected were analyzed by using t-test. The result of the data analysis showed that the t-observed was 7,24. It was higher that the value of t-table (tt) is 1,66 for 5% and 2,38 for 1%. This meant that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. 本研究是为了运用圆桌技巧来提高小学九年级学生的写作能力。本研究为实验研究,探讨圆桌技巧对学生报告文本写作能力的影响。事件发生在帕巴库监狱。研究对象为九年级学生,共132名学生。选取72名学生作为样本,分为实验组和对照组。每组由36名学生组成。实验组采用圆桌技术,对照组不采用圆桌技术。通过写作测试来收集学生写作能力的数据。收集的数据采用t检验进行分析。数据分析结果显示,观察到的t = 7,24。t-table (tt)的值为1.66(5%)和2.38(1%)。这意味着可选假设(Ha)被接受。结果表明:圆桌技巧对2018/2019学年北京师范大学九年级学生报告文本写作能力有影响。

Dosen dan mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris notabenenya harus menggunakan bahasa Inggris didalam proses kegiatan yang berhubungan dengan Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Faktanya, terbatasnya penggunaan bahasa Inggris membuat mahasiswa sering menggunakan code switching dalam kegiatan yang berhubungan dengan Program Studi Pendidikan bahasa Inggris. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fenomena code switching yang terjadi didalam proses seminar proposal Prodi Bahasa Inggris Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (STKIP) Budidaya Binjai. Penelitian deskriptif kualitatif ini  mengambil data dari proses seminar proposal Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris yang mana dosen penguji dan mahasiswa peserta seminar sebagai subjek penelitian dan data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, rekaman dengan menggunakan rekaman video dan catatan lapangan. Dari hasil temuan disimpulkan bahwa code switching terjadi dalam tuturan selama proses seminar proposal prodi Bahasa Inggris. Jenis code switching yang terdapat dalam tuturan berdasarkan teori Romaine (2000) yaitu Inter-sentential code switching, Intra-sentential code switching dan Tag switching. Faktor dosen dan mahasiswa melakukan code switching adalah karena perubahan situasi karena hadirnya orang ketiga, perubahan situasi dari formal ke informal atau sebaliknya, dan berubahnya topik pembicaraan. Dari hasil interview juga disimpulkan bahwa mahasiswa melakukan code switching karena bahasa Inggris bukan bahasa pertama mereka sehingga kurangnya kosakata bahasa Inggris membuat mereka sering menggunakan code switching didalam percakapannya. Penelitian ini dibiayai oleh SIMLITABMAS. Direktorat Riset dan Pengabdian Masyarakat. Direktorat Jenderal Penguatan Riset dan Pengembangan. Based on School Based Curriculum, writing is one of the English language  skills that must be taught and learned in Senior High School. SMA Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai is a school which uses K13 as the curriculum in the teaching and learning process. After doing observation in SMA Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai, the writer found that the students were difficult in developing a descriptive text. In this case, the teacher was expected to find a good strategy in order to give a contribution to increase the students’ ability in writing a descriptive text by applying Praise-Question-Polish (PQP) Strategy as a replacement of previous strategy or technique.This research consisted of two variables, they were Praise-Question-Polish Strategy as variable X, and students’ writing descriptive text as variable Y. The type of this research was an experimental research. The writer used a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group which was intended to find out the effect of using Praise-Question-Polish (PQP) Strategy on students’ writing descriptive text of the tenth grade students of SMA Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai.In  analyzing  the  data,  the  writer  used a statistical  analysis  which  used t-table. It was obtained that t-obtained was higher than t-table. It means, null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It could be stared that 6,971 > 1,672. In conclusion, there was a significant effect of using praise-question-polish strategy on students’ writing descriptive text of the tenth grade students of SMA Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai.
基于校本课程,写作是高中必须教授和学习的英语语言技能之一。SMA Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai是一所在教学过程中使用K13作为课程的学校。在SMA Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai进行观察后,笔者发现学生在发展描述性文本方面存在困难。在这种情况下,教师被期望找到一个好的策略,以便通过应用表扬-提问-润色(PQP)策略来替代之前的策略或技巧,从而提高学生撰写描述性文本的能力。本研究包含两个变量,变量X为表扬-提问-润色策略,变量y为学生写作描述性文本。本研究的类型为实验研究。作者采用非等效对照组的准实验设计,旨在了解使用表扬-提问-润色(PQP)策略对SMA Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai十年级学生写作描述性文本的影响。在分析数据时,作者采用了t表的统计分析方法。得到的t大于t表。即拒绝零假设(H0),接受备择假设(Ha)。可以看到6971大于1672。综上所述,使用表扬-问题-润色策略对SMA Swasta YPIS Maju Binjai十年级学生的描述性文本写作有显著影响。

The objective of this study was to find out the effect of temporal conjunction mastery and students’ achievement in writing procedure text of the 2017/2018 eleventh year students of SMA Swasta Persiapan Stabat were divided into two classes. They were XI IPA1and XI IPA2. There are 60 students. That number then became the sample of this research. The design of the study was categorized as an experiment quantitative research. It meant there were two groups. They were experimental group that received treatment. This study was conducted by an experimental research. It aimed to measure the students’ ability on descriptive writing. Writing is one of four basic skills. And it is one productive skill in English. It is very important in studying English. The writers used the written test. The writers, as the learning input in understanding the nature of procedure text and the ways to teach procedure text for Senior High School Students effectively and efficiently. The data were acquired by using written test. The test consisted of two types; they were pre-test and post-test. After analyzing the data, the finding indicates that result of analysis was 3.50. It was found out that observed was higher than t-table or it can be said (3.50 > 2.002;α=0.05). It means that temporal conjunction mastery and students’ achievement in writing procedure text of the 2017/2018 eleventh year students of SMA Swasta Persiapan Stabat.

CODE SWITCHING IN BILINGUAL CLASSROOM 双语课堂中的语码转换

Nowadays, universal language which is used in the world is English. The ability of speaking English is being a prerequisite to be someone’s success in the future. The aim of this study is to find the phenomenon of code switching in bilingual classroom which focused on types of grammatical code switching and reasons of using grammatical code switching. This research applied descriptive qualitative research which obtained the data from the discourse of lecturers and students in bilingual classroom at Universitas Negeri Medan. The researchers applied observation, interview and documentation. The data showed that lecturers and students used grammatical code switching in the classroom such as 2 tag code switching, 12 inter-sentential code switching, 22 intra-sentential code switching, 3 proper nouns, 1 negative words, 8 similarity of words in languages and 3 discourse marker. There are some reasons why the participants used code switching in their discourse. First, code switching made students more understand what the lecturers explained because not all bilingual students are able to speak English. Second, they used code switching because lack of vocabulary in English and so that they switched languages to make the material were easier to be understood.Keywords— Code Switching, Types of Grammatical Code Switching, Reasons of Code Switching, Bilingual Education
