National Sovereignty and Territorial Unification of the Romanian Space: An Intergenerational Concept 罗马尼亚空间的国家主权和领土统一:代际概念

The Romanian Constitution of 1923 is framed on the backdrop of a long historical journey, lasting more than a century, of state-building and the emergence of a specific Romanian constitutional tradition. The aim is to retrace this path in its broad phases, attempting to explain it in the lightof an interpretative scheme based on a generational approach, taken as a measure of periodizationand as an expression of historical and political continuities and changes. The article shows therelevance in Romanian political culture of the principle of national sovereignty, expressed in theconcepts of the unity of the state’s territory and independence. Going back to the first reformprojects in the first half of the nineteenth century, the article outlines the main attempts at political change based on the link between national integration and territorial unification: from theRomanian national initiatives of the first half of the century (with special attention to the 1848Revolution) to the Constitution of 1866 and the new reality of Greater Romania after the FirstWorld War. A substantial continuity of values and ideas is outlined, assessing the intergenerationaldimension of the concept of national sovereignty in Romanian political culture.

This article discusses Montenegrin–Bulgarian relations before the First Balkan War, which Montenegro and Bulgaria, together with their allies Serbia and Greece, waged against Turkey. Montenegrin–Bulgarian relations improved from 1878 to 1912. These two states had no territorialconflicts, but both were conscious that war against Turkey would be essential if they were to liberate the Balkans from the Ottoman occupation that had lasted five centuries. There was also anemotional basis for this idea of a war. Both countries were Slavic, a feature also shared by Russia,the protector of the Balkan League. Russia wanted to expel the Ottoman state from the Balkans.The Balkan League of States under its patronage was against the thesis of the Central Powers. Theway events turned out at the end of the First Balkan War, as well as the fact that Montenegro wasethnically closer to Serbia than to Bulgaria, led to Montenegro going to war against Bulgaria in1913, although Montenegro had no particular benefit from that war.

A singular Romanian writer, often considered a precursor of the avant-garde, Urmuz (1883–1923) left a complex representation of time in his work. Alongside chronological temporality, wefind the elements of a more complex temporal imaginary, which is essentially critical of notionsof progress. The paper proposes a close reading of the prose endings, to underline the particularaspects of the representation of time: the integration of destruction, its indefinite continuity, itspositioning in relation to the future. Drawing on Giorgio Agamben’s reading of the Epistle to theRomans, we highlight the messianic character of the time represented in Urmuz’s prose. Throughan analysis of the linguistic dimensions of temporal expressions, as well as an analysis of the relationship between time and the imaginary of filiation, we attempt to discuss the possibility of acritique of modernity and what we might call, with a notion borrowed from François Hartog, analternative regime of historicity.

The article seeks to provide a partial but genuine account of the translations from English andAmerican literatures into Romanian in the censorship-governed, communist period. It rests onthe historical, political and ideological pre-requisites that set the scene for translational censorshipin Romania and focuses on issues like: the number of published translations, editorial policies,revision methods, translators and their status. Finally, it overviews the 21st century debates andfurther investigative initiatives on censorship and translations.

In the 1920s Romania underwent a major political, cultural, and social change. A new generationof young people attended universities and started being involved in political life in a bigger country where access to civil and political rights was granted to all citizens. Influenced by the international context characterized by the rise of ideologies and by the habit of violence inherited fromthe Great War, a part of them considered terrorism as a possible instrument of action. CorneliuZelea Codreanu’s movement was the main representative of such an attitude. Political homicideswere not only a settling of scores, also transmitting the message that there was a justice that wassuperior to that imposed by law and it was based on the authentical values of Romanian identity.After the death of Codreanu, the Iron Guard, led by Horia Sima, did not give up terrorism, but itbecame a conscious method of political action with the aim of destabilizing and creating a climateof uncertainty and terror.

The Coats of Arms of Metropolitan Andrei, Baron of Şaguna 萨古纳男爵安德烈都主教的纹章

The anniversary of one hundred and fifty years since the passing of Saint Metropolitan Andrei Şaguna (28 June 1873) is the right moment to reflect on his portrait in history, his theological legacy, and his positive role in the historical evolution of the Romanians in Transylvania, Banat and Hungary in the second half of the 19th century. The study approaches a topic less discussed in Romanian, German or English historiography and theology, namely: the coats of arms of Andrei Şaguna, by the mercy of God “archbishop and metropolitan of the Orthodox Romanians of Transylvania and Hungary” and by the grace of Franz Joseph, Emperor of Austria, Baron of the Austrian Empire. Among all Transylvanian Romanian Orthodox hierarchs, Metropolitan Şaguna is the only one who was raised by the Austrian emperor to the noble rank of baron. The title was conferred on him by Emperor Franz Joseph in 1852, being assumed by the hierarch both in his signature and in the official title used in his correspondence with the civil, military and ecclesiastical authorities of the Habsburg Monarchy and the Romanian Principalities, as well as on the title pages of books printed in Sibiu. The royal titles and orders, the baronial coat of arms and the metropolitan emblem illustrate the historical effigies and aristocratic stature of the complex personality of Metropolitan Andrei Şaguna and represent the new legal status and public dignity that the Romanian nation and the Transylvanian Orthodox Church acquired during his pastorate.

The present study is a preliminary analysis, from a socio-professional perspective, of the first set ofquantitative data on the generations of Romanian students who studied at the pontifical universities in Rome between 1853 and 1948. Without research that could piece together the generalpicture of all the students educated in Rome during the discussed period, this study identifies thegenerations of students trained over a century, their formative patterns, their contacts and particularities, and the professional paths followed by the graduates. It outlines the socio-cultural climatein which the three generations of students were educated and its impact on their theological andintellectual profile. A special part of this study is dedicated to identifying and analyzing the factorsthat contributed to the selection of the students and their career paths, focusing particularly onthe impact of social origin, education, kinship relations, as well as on political factors. Last but notleast, it also considers the dynamics of the emblematic figures of each generation, the universitydropout phenomenon, and the reasons behind career changes.

Without research that could piece together the general\u0000picture of all the students educated in Rome during the discussed period, this study identifies the\u0000generations of students trained over a century, their formative patterns, their contacts and particularities, and the professional paths followed by the graduates. It outlines the socio-cultural climate\u0000in which the three generations of students were educated and its impact on their theological and\u0000intellectual profile. A special part of this study is dedicated to identifying and analyzing the factors\u0000that contributed to the selection of the students and their career paths, focusing particularly on\u0000the impact of social origin, education, kinship relations, as well as on political factors. Homo Novus in the Conquest of the Empire: The Playful Element in Fascist Propaganda and Pedagogy: A Case Study 帝国征服中的新人类:法西斯宣传和教育学中的游戏元素:案例研究

The Italo-Ethiopian War (1935–1936) represents, par excellence, the war of fascism for fascism.It is no coincidence that the extensive use of military resources was accompanied by an extraordinary propaganda campaign, which also had clear and evident pedagogical implications. Theregime, at the peak of its consensus and in the full deployment of its totalitarian vocation, tookon the objective of raising the young and very young generations “to the level of the Empire.”The pedagogical project of the homo novus experienced a qualitative leap. The combination of warand Africa, filled with heroic fascination and ancestral mystery, stroke the imagination of teachers,educators, textbook compilers, and, similarly, excited the imagination of the youth. The enthusiasm generated by propaganda, or the propaganda itself artificially returned to the public sphere,promoted the psychological dynamics of “celebration” and play. Although fascist pedagogy underestimated the relationship between learning and play, the playful element actually emerged asan important factor in political mobilization and, above all, imperialistic education. The didacticstrategies of elementary school teachers, developed in preparation for and during the Africanconflict, are proof of this. However, even the private industry aligned itself with the pedagogicalinfluences of the regime, introducing a wide variety of toys on the market that served to shape animperialist, warlike, chauvinistic, and racist mentality. The province of Perugia is undoubtedly aninteresting field of investigation: on the territory of the “capital of the fascist revolution,” starting from 1923, governing groups making loyalty to the Duce the driving force of their politicalrise took over the institutional and administrative structures. But that’s not all: unlike elsewhere,the Gentile reform enjoyed widespread consensus in Perugia from the beginning. Moreover, themajority of teachers joined Mussolini’s movement from the very beginning.

In this study, we aim to present some cases of witchcraft on the European continent. Based onunpublished archival information, the study shows how the state, the Church and the society reacted to magic, witchcraft, and alchemy. The life stories of the magical agents presented in thesepages also provide an opportunity to revisit the political and social context from France to Transylvania throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. Beyond the beauty of the magical symbolism liesthe dramatic fate of those involved, who ended their lives tragically. Their testimonies, however,are important for the researcher who wishes to investigate the magical phenomenon.

Aesthetic Considerations on György Ligeti’s Works 捷尔吉-里盖蒂作品的美学思考

This article represents a revised chapter of my book György Ligeti’s Creation in the Stylistic Context of the 20st Century, published in 1999. It shows the divergent and contrasting aspects of the com poser’s pieces, their synaesthesis and their preference for allusions and illusions. Ligeti’s whole work is a large spectrum built with associable musical structures that are also found with other composers or even in extramusical artistic productions. But despite this, it remains original and innovative, not belonging to any stylistic orientation of 20th century music.
