Background: In old age, taking medications in the desired dosage contributes to health and well- being and is therefore an essential component of the effectiveness of treatments and ultimately the desired impact on public health and reduction of health care budgets. However, it is known that medication compliance among older persons is frequently not at the desired level. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the medication compliance after patient education was applied among 60 years of age and over individuals in two healthcare facilities in Ankara, Turkey. Methods: This study was conducted in two public hospitals between March and July 2019. 315 people aged 60 and over participated in the study. One hundred and sixty-one participants who received regular health services (without medication compliance education) were in Group 1, and 154 participants who received medication compliance education were in Group 2. The education tool was the “teach-back” method. SPSS 23.0 program was used for data entry and analysis. P values less than 0.05 were indicated for statistical significance. Results: Participants who received education showed a statistically significant improvement in their capacity to understand the long-term benefits of drugs, their side effects, and storage conditions, as well as their knowledge of when the drugs should not be taken and their ability to repeat information about the drugs used (p<0,05). Conclusion: This study has revealed that medication compliance among older individuals can be increased with appropriate communication and training method like the “teach-back” method in healthcare settings. Time allocated by health workers in this regard has the potential to respond to compliance-related needs. It is recommended that such techniques be integrated into routine health service models.

Aim: We aimed to determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis B and hepatitis C according to the type of malignancy in cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Patients with malignancy treated between February 2016 and February 2021 were included in our study. HBsAg, Anti HBs and Anti HCV test results of cancer patients determined by chemiluminescence method were compared according to cancer subgroups. Results: Of the 882 cancer patients included in the study, 64.6% were male and 35.4% were female. The mean age of the patients was 65.74±12.94 years. When hepatitis markers were evaluated according to gender, the rate of Anti-HBs seropositivity was higher in males (p<0.001), and there was no significant difference in terms of HBsAg seropositivity (p=0.542) and Anti-HCV seropositivity (p=0.301). In our study, 2.5% of adult cancer patients were HBsAg seropositive, 0.9% were Anti HCV seropositive, and 17.0% were Anti HBs seropositive. There was no difference between cancer groups in terms of Anti HBs seropositivity (p=0.074) and Anti HCV seropositivity (p=0.071) in all cancer patients. HBsAg seropositivity in patients with sarcoma was statistically significantly higher (8.3%) compared to other cancer groups (p=0.015). Conclusion: In our study, higher HBsAg seropositivity was found in patients with sarcoma compared to patients with other cancer types. The viral hepatitis panel must be examined before the use of immunosuppressive treatments and hepatotoxic agents in all cancer types, especially in patients with sarcoma. In addition, the etiopathological significance of this difference according to cancer types should be investigated.

Persistent diarrhea in infancy, is one of the most common complaints form of food allergies. When the patient's histories are not detailed, they can be easily overlooked and they are tried to be controlled with general gastroenteritis treatments. In this case report, cow's milk and egg allergy was mentioned which is detected by the symptoms of persistant diarrhea, iron deficiency anemia and growth retardation. In this respect, we aimed to emphasize that primary care physicians should evaluate food allergy in the differential diagnosis when they encounter infants and children with persistent diarrhea and growth retardation.

Orf is a zoonotic disease transmitted by contact from small ruminants, which is also common in our country, and its causative agent is parapoxvirus. It usually occurs as lesions characterized by nodules on the fingers, and although it is a self-limiting disease that heals without treatment, it can be confused with other zoonotic diseases and cause complications as a result of unnecessary interventions. For this reason, it is important for primary care physicians to recognize orf disease, which does not require a specific treatment, and to distinguish it from other zoonotic skin diseases. In this study, in a 56-year-old male patient who applied to the family health center, after vaccination of ovine animals; A case of orf diagnosed by history and physical examination and treated with symptomatic methods is presented.
