Studies show that more than two-thirds of the general population may experience trauma at least once in their lifetime.[1] Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is the most common psychopathological consequence of exposure to traumatic events.[2] Without a vaccine or effective medical treatments, an unrecognized epidemic of infection such as COVID-19 can be defined as a traumatic experience in terms of acute and chronic effects at the individual and community level. This pandemic has once again demonstrated the central role of family medicine in the health system. On one hand, family physicians taking an active role in informing the society, triage of patients and referral to hospitals, when necessary, prevents excessive burden on hospitals and the health system and consuming resources, on the other hand, they play an important role in creating the most needed sense of trust in the crisis. This article summarizes the information about trauma, PTSD, PTSD in COVID-19 pandemic and PTSD approach in Family Medicine.

INTRODUCTION: In this study, ıt was aimed to determine the level of awareness by evaluating the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of people about the risk factors, symptoms and early diagnosis methods of colorectal cancer. METHODS: The study was conducted with a face-to-face interview with 300 patients who met the inclusion criteria of the study, who applied to the Family Medicine Clinic of İzmir Bozyaka Education and Research Hospital at the University of Health Sciences, between January 2019 and February 2019. Data obtained statistically were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) program. RESULTS: The mean age of the participants was 51,8±8,66 years and the age ranged was between 40 to 70 years. 68.3% (205) of the participants were female. When the educational status of the patients is examined, the highest rate is composed of primary school graduates with 33% (99), followed by university graduates with 28.7% (86). 66.3% (124) of those who have heard about colorectal cancer screening test reported that they heard it from health care workers, 25.7%(48) from their relatives and friends. 62.3% (187) of the participants heard about colorectal cancer screening tests. While 96.7% (290) of the participants believed that those tests were necessary, 85% (255) of the participants thought that the aim of the colorectal cancer screening test was to catch the disease at an early stage. Only 29% (87) of the participants were informed by the doctor about colorectal cancer screening tests. Only 25% (75) of the participants knew names of colorectal cancer screening tests correctly. 39.7% (60) of the participants over the age of 50 had a CRC screening test. While the participants considered changes in the habit of defecation as the most frequent sign of CRC, the most known risk factor was the family history of CRC. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: In our study ıt was determined that individuals had a lock of knowledge about CRC and the rate of screening test recommended for those over the age of 50 was low. For this reason, Family Physicians, who are great importance in terms of ptotective medicine should inform and guide their patients more about the screening test.

INTRODUCTION: Improving the current medical health care system is achieved by increasing the quality on research and this is managed by encouraging residents to develop interest in research beginning from the first years of the medical school. It is important to understand the attitudes of students and address their negative opinions for research, and to evaluate their anxiety. In this study, we aimed to assess the levels of anxiety related to scientific research and the factors that may be related to these factors among the residents working in a university hospital. METHODS: This descriptive study covered all medical faculty residents working at a medical school between October and December 2019. The sociodemographic characteristics of all participants were questioned and all medical faculty residents completed an anxiety scale that assessment the level of anxiety for research RESULTS: A total of 310 medical faculty residents were included in the study. The mean age of the participants was 28.3±2.6 years and 49.0% (n=152) of the participants were women. The mean score of the anxiety scale for scientific research in residents was 33.37 ± 9.27 and there was no difference between the participants in terms of gender (p = 0.666). The residents who were doing their residency on basic science compared to those working in other departments, those who had a less workload compared to those who had a more workload, those who thought of pursuing an academic career compared to those who do not think of becoming an academic, those who were satisfied with the department compared to those who were not satisfied with the department had a significantly lower level of anxiety for scientific research (p=0.023; p <0.001; p <0.001; p<0.001 respectively). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: A total of 310 medical faculty residents were included in the study. The mean age of the participants was 28.3±2.6 years and 49.0% (n=152) of the participants were women. Objective: This study aimed to determine whether high school adolescents between the ages of 1419 are internet addicts. It also investigates the effects of internet addiction on family harmony and school success. Methods: Our study was conducted between 30 June 2020 1 August 2020 in Istanbul Bağcılar Barbaros Family Health Centre. Firstly, in our study, high school adolescents were asked 29 questions about their socio-demographic status. Then, the Young Internet Addiction Scale consisting of 20 questions and the 5-Question Family Harmony Scale created by Kavikondala et al. were applied. School success was measured verbally via learning the school year-end grade averages. Results: In our study, the internet addiction scale was applied to 183 high school students aged between 14 and 19. We determined that 85.8% of the participants were normal internet users, 13.1% were potential addicts, and 1.1% were addicted. The participants consisted of 100 girls and 83 boys. The total scores of the Internet addiction scale did not show a statistically significant difference between girls and boys. Girls’ school success scores were higher than boys. The students studying at the science high school had higher internet addiction scale scores than other high school groups. Compared to the other groups, the total internet addiction scores were significantly higher in those who have a smartphone, use a smartphone or computer for more than 3 hours daily, and have been using the internet for more than 5 years. The Internet addiction scale scores were significantly higher in individuals with irregular sleep. INTRODUCTION: Adequate knowledge about body mass index (BMI), which is a traditional method of measuring obesity, and about obesity-related pregnancy risks will possibly decrease obesity-related pregnancy complications in women contemplating pregnancy. In this study, we aimed to determine knowledge levels of women contemplating pregnancy about BMI and pregnancy risks related with obesity. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, our sample was 211 married women age 18 to 45 years old who visited a family physician in Fındıklı Center of Goitre Research and Treatment between June to August 2020. Patients completed the questionnaire including sociodemographic data, questions about BMI and questions about effects of obesity on pregnancy via the face-to-face interview method. The data was analyzed using statistical analysis program. RESULTS: The mean age of participants (n=211) was 31.7 ± 5.9 years. Of the participants, 40.3% (n=85) stated that they received pre-pregnancy counseling and 37.4% (n=79) had BMI score between 25 to 29.9. The mean BMI knowledge score of participants was 0.99±0.69 out of 5, and the mean BMI knowledge score of participants who received preconceptional counselling was significantly higher than those who did not (p=0.01). The mean BMI knowledge score of participants who stated 'high' or 'very high' risk level for each complication during pregnancy of a morbid obese woman was significantly higher than those of the remaining groups (p<0.05). In case of that a morbid obese woman loses weight before pregnancy, the mean BMI knowledge score of participants who stated 'lower' or 'much lower' risk level for each complication during pregnancy significantly higher than those of the remaining groups (p<0.05). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: In our study, we determined women who contemplating pregnancy had inadequate BMI knowledge levels, but had adequate awareness about effects of obesity on pregnancy and potential pregnancy risks related obesity. The conversation of family physicians about BMI with their patients will ensure them to realise their own weight as well as effective prevention and management of obesity, and will increase awareness of women contemplating pregnancy about obesity related pregnancy risks.
