Background GATA binding protein 3 (GATA-3) is one of the six transcription factor family members and is important for glandular development in the breast. Its expression becomes important in breast cancer. We aimed to compare GATA-3 immunoreactivity and pathological prognostic factors in patients with invasive ductal carcinoma. Material and Methods Our study was conducted retrospectively with 300 breast invasive ductal carcinoma patients who were operated on in our hospital between May 2013 and June 2014. Patient reports, slides and blocks in the pathology archive were scanned. GATA-3 immunohistochemical (IHC) staining was evaluated according to the nuclear staining, intensity and percentage. The relationship between clinicopathological prognostic parameters and GATA-3 IHC staining results was investigated. Results A positive staining was observed in 286 (95.3%) cases. According to the GATA-3 staining intensity and percentage, 210 (70%) cases stained strongly and 246 (82%) stained +4, respectively. There was a significant relationship between GATA-3 immunoreactivity with ER, PR, Cerb-B2, Ki-67, mitotic degree, mitotic count and histological grade. Conclusions There was a correlation between the high expression of GATA-3 and good prognostic markers. Hormone receptors can be evaluated with Cerb-B2 and Ki-67 and used as prognosis determinants in breast cancers. They can be used to identify both primary and secondary breast tumors.

Background Thrombotic complications are the most considerable etiology causing morbidity and mortality in patients with philadelphia (Ph) negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). There are many studies evaluating the association of JAK2 mutation and risk of thrombosis in MPN with inconclusive results. We also investigated the relation between JAK2 mutation in all Ph negative MPN and thrombosis. Material and Methods Thrombotic events and demographic features of 177 patients with Ph negative MPN were evaluated retrospectively. Results JAK2 V617 F mutation was detected in 57% of patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET), %90.3 of pateints with polycythemia vera (PV), 100% of pateints with primary myelofibrosis (PMF). Thrombotic complications occured more frequently with JAK2 mutation in all MPN patients than without (p=0.014). In JAK 2 mutation positive groups, the median age, thrombosis risk scores and leucocyte values are higher, splenomegaly and arterial and/or venous thrombosis are detected more frequently (p

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) pneumonia is a rare opportunistic infection in the progression of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Also, COVID-19 has been named a pandemic since the beginning of 2020. During this period, physicians were exposed to many COVID-19 cases, and it was challenged to consider different diagnoses in patients who applied to the emergency room with lung complaints and bilateral pneumonia. Here we reported a 30-year-old man diagnosed with HIV- associated opportunistic CMV pneumonia mimicking COVID-19. The diagnosis of CMV pneumonia was obtained through consistent clinical, radiological, microbiological and cytologic examinations. The patient made a complete clinical recovery after being initialized on anti-CMV treatment.

Background Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is used in selected patients with recurrent or metastatic thyroid cancer who have high surgical risk or do not accept surgical treatment. However, long-term follow-up data are limited. Here, we present our single-center experience with the use of RFA in the treatment of recurrent or metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Background In this study we aimed to evaluate the correlations between dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate-total testosterone (DHEAS/TT) ratio and insulin resistance, glycemic and lipid parameters. Material and Methods A total of 35 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and 34 healthy volunteers were included in the study. Anthropometric, clinical, biochemical, lipid and glycemic measurements were performed according to routine standards. Patients’ demographic, clinical, anthropometric, biochemical, glycemic, lipid and hormonal parameters were measured and recorded. DHEAS/TT ratio was calculated in all patients. DHEAS/TT ratio and metabolic parameters were compared between the PCOS and control groups. Results There were significant differences between the PCOS and control groups in terms of fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), triglycerides, insulin and homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR)
