High efficiency dual inverter drives for a PMSM considering field weakening region 考虑弱磁场区域的永磁同步电机高效双逆变驱动

This paper describes dual inverter drive for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). PMSMs are widely used in many areas including Electric Vehicle (EV). The needs for PMSMs are consistently increasing in spite of its high cost because of its high efficiency. PMSM drive has advantages in low speed because it doesn't need excitation current. But in high speed operation, this characteristic serves as disadvantage and it needs additional currents to reduce the magnetic flux from permanent magnets. This current makes additional losses such as copper loss of the machine and the inverter loss. And these losses cause efficiency drop of the entire drive system. So, it is possible to increase efficiency by making this current low. In this paper, the method which makes lower back-EMF by splitting motor is proposed. By splitting stator, field weakening current is reduced because flux linkage between rotor and stator is reduced. In the split of the machine slots, there are many candidates according to the split ratio. This paper analyzes the efficiency considering both machine and inverter losses simultaneously in the various split. This proposed method is also evaluated by experiments.

Selection and design of ultra-capacitor modules for power conversion applications: From theory to practice 功率转换用超级电容模块的选择与设计:从理论到实践

Electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLC), well known as ultra-capacitors have been used intensively in power conversion applications such as controlled electric drives, active filters, power conditioners and uninterruptible power supplies. In such applications, an ultra-capacitor is used as a short-term energy storage device that can be fully charged/discharge within few seconds. This paper gives a comprehensive procedure and guideline for selection and design of ultra-capacitor module. Selection of main parameters, such as voltage and capacitance rating, is discussed in details. Conversion losses and efficiency as well as thermal design of the ultra-capacitor module are also discussed. In last part of the paper, design of voltage balancing circuit is addressed. At the end of the paper, a design example is given and the experimental results presented.

SHE-PWM cascaded multilevel converter with adjustable DC sources control for STATCOM applications SHE-PWM级联多电平转换器可调直流电源控制的STATCOM应用

This paper presents a new variation of the selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHE-PWM) technique applied to cascaded multilevel converter based STATCOM system. The DC voltage levels of the cascaded H-bridge converter are assumed variables, hence increasing the degrees of freedom in the formulation of the problem. This approach allows additional harmonics to be controlled when compared to the existing family of SHE-based multilevel control for the same converter configuration. The proposed modulation method also shows an interesting feature of fixed switching angles across the entire range of the modulation index, which alleviates the problem of online implementation. The proposed method solely relies on the availability of the variable DC voltage levels, which can be obtained by different topologies. For simplicity, a DC/DC buck converter is utilized in this paper to provide a variable DC voltage levels required by the H-bridges of the five-level converter. The STATCOM system is integrated with a current controller along with a voltage control loop for the buck converter to meet the reactive power demand of different loading conditions. The method is further compared with the conventional carrier-based pulse width modulation (CB-PWM) to show its improved characteristics. The effectiveness and the theoretical analysis of the proposed approach and validated through simulation studies.

A lossless and inductorless gate driver is shown in this paper to reduce the switching loss of the control FET for buck converters. The loss model based on the mathematical analysis and simulation were proposed to predict the advantages of the gate driver over voltage source driver (VSD). Experimental results verified the improvement achieved by the gate driver.

Average current-mode control for LLC series resonant dc-to-dc converters LLC系列谐振dc- dc转换器的平均电流模式控制

Conventional voltage mode control only offers limited performance for LLC series resonant dc-to-dc converters experiencing wide variations in operating conditions. This paper presents average current mode control which could consistently provide good closed-loop performance for LLC resonant converters for the entire operational range. The proposed control scheme employs an additional feedback from the current of the resonant tank network to overcome the limitation of the existing voltage mode control. The principles, implementation and performance of the average current mode control scheme are investigated to identify their respective merits and limitations compared with conventional control schemes. The accuracy of dynamic analysis and validity of control design are confirmed with both computer simulations and experimental measurements using 150W prototype converter.

Wind power DC grid and Variable Speed DC power system operating control 风电直流电网和变速直流电力系统运行控制

VSC-HVDC power transmission system that connected long-distance high-capacity wind farm to the grid will be an important direction of the wind power technology development. The grid access solutions designed according to traditional AC grid structure could not fully reflect the advantages of the VSC-HVDC transmission. Firstly the typical grid solutions of VSC-HVDC based wind power system is analyzed briefly. And then, several new topology applied the wind farm internal DC bus and the Variable Speed DC (VSDC) power system that is suitable for those topologies are proposed. The operating control of VSDC is discussed and maximum wind power tracing is realized by simulation in the end.

Terminal sliding mode control for buck converter with chaos 混沌降压转换器的终端滑模控制

Buck converter is a high non-linear system, which can produce chaotic phenomenon under certain parameters. So the paper studied the phenomena and mechanism of chaos generated in it firstly, simulation results show the existence of chaos in buck converter. Then a simple and effective nonlinear control— sliding mode control method was proposed for buck converter to control the chaotic behavior. The simulation results verified the effectiveness and correctness of the proposed strategy.

Using repetitive control for light load THD and efficiency improvement for boost digital PFC converters 使用重复控制轻负载THD和提高升压数字PFC转换器的效率

This paper addresses control techniques aimed at improving light load efficiency and reducing total harmonic distortion in digitally controlled boost PFC converters operating over wide load range. A new current sensing scheme is developed to detect the average current under fixed or variable switching frequency operation. An adaptive switching frequency control technique is developed to reduce switching losses and improve efficiency at light loads. A repetitive controller is designed to minimize periodic errors within the current loop bandwidth. A design procedure is given for synthesizing the current loop controller to achieve good current tracking under wide input voltage variation range. A single-phase boost PFC converter with single-chip DSP controller has been constructed for the verification of the proposed control scheme. Simulation and experimental results confirm the feasibility and superior performances of the proposed control scheme.

On the practical design of a single-stage single-switch isolated PFC regulator based on sliding mode control 基于滑模控制的单级单开关隔离PFC稳压器的实际设计

In this paper, the variable-bandwidth hysteresis-modulation sliding-mode (VB-HM-SM) method is applied for a single-stage single-switch isolated power-factor-correction (PFC) regulator. In the regulator, the dc-dc stage works in CCM and is regulated by PWM, while the ac-dc boost stage works in DCM and is regulated by PFM. However, both PWM and PFM are realized by a sliding mode (SM) controller, and thus, unity power factor and fast output voltage regulation can be simultaneously achieved. Various aspects of the design, including the associated practical problems and the proposed solutions are detailed. A simple and easy-to-follow design procedure is also described. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the design procedure.

Fast and reliable phasor detectors for single phase AC systems by derivative quadrature generation 基于导数正交产生的单相交流系统快速可靠的相量检测器

The detection of amplitude and phase information in a single phase AC system is quite challenging due to the lack of quadrature component available in multi-phase AC systems. To produce the reliable quadrature component of the single phase AC system with harmonic noises, a derivative quadrature generator with appropriate filters is proposed. A low pass filter (LPF) optimizing the reductions of total harmonic distortion (THD) and response time of sensed signals was found, surveying generalized n-th order filters. To nullify phase shift of the LPF, an all pass filter was adopted. By simulations and experiments for the proposed phasor detector at 60 Hz, a fast time response of less than 8 ms was achieved under severe THD of 9.3 %.
