Objective: To assess the compliance of tracheal suctioning practices against the standard guidelines of a tertiary care hospital, with regard to the participants’ professional characteristics. Methods: Using cross sectional study design, forty health care professionals (HCPs) were assessed twice, using a quantitative structured observational design, for tracheal suctioning practices, in one of the surgical care units of the tertiary care hospital. Tracheal suctioning policy which was used as a tool, its inter-rater reliability was tested and each step showed the Kappa value of 0.65 to 1.000. Data was analyzed using epidata info version 3.5.1 and SPSS version 19. Results: From a total of 80 observations, 30% showed compliance, 50% partial compliance whereas, 20% indicated non-compliance. Conclusion: The study results highlight the need for improving the overall compliance with the tracheal suctioning guidelines of evidence based practices to minimize the adverse effects and enhance patient safety related to tracheal suctioning practices. The current study also provides an opportunity to motivate the HCPs compliant in the practices of tracheal suctioning by appreciate their competence.

Brazil, assistance to the emergency services provided ensures early care for users of the Unified Health System (SUS) and safe transportation to points of care in the hierarchical network. In this service, the nurse plays an important role and has an active participation when collaborating for quality care, preventing complications, assessing potential risks and leading to safe care. Objective: dwrite the actions of the emergency nurse and work in advanced health support in the mobile PHC, through a review of the national scientific literature. Method: This is an integrative review with a qualitative approach that aims to identify and characterize the aspects addressed in studies that are related to the role of nurses in mobile pre-hospital care. Results and discussion: In view of the analysis of the production of these seven selected articles that address the role of nurses in mobile PHC, as shown in the table below, it resulted in four categories: role of nurses in advanced life support (VAS), training of professionals, development of health protocols attendance, management and supervision of activities, discussed below. Of the seven articles contained in the sample, 100% of them address the role of nurses in VAS; performance of the protocols that was mentioned in only 1 of the articles (14.28%); 1 (14.28%) addressed the theme in which the sample is made refer to professional training andonly 2 (28.57%) address the topic of management and supervision of activities. Conclusion: It is expected that the present study will contribute to new research, leading to a reflection on the importance of nurses in pre-hospital care services (PHC), valuing health professionals and thus guaranteeing patient safety and qualityofcareprovided in healthservices.

Cardiovascular disease is the world’s largest killer. Nurses are often the first to activate life support measures when a cardio-respiratory arrest happens. Hence, they should be well-equipped with knowledge and skills of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation to save the life of patient. The aim of the present study was to assess the knowledge and practice of basic life support among nursing officers working in tertiary care hospital, Delhi, India. A cross sectional survey analysis was carried out among 112 nursing officers working in various departments, in March 2019, using convenient sampling technique. A semi structured questionnaire containing knowledge and skill items were used to assess knowledge and skill related to CPR. The results showed average knowledge and poor skill among subjects. Whereas the subjects working in ICU and emergency departments had better knowledge and performance than other selected areas. Both Knowledge and skill were significantly associated with variables like clinical area, in-service training on BLS at p<0.05. The results strongly recommend the need for regular basic life support training sessions for health care professionals.

Although West African Immigrants (WAIs) make up a small percentage of the immigrant population in the United States (U.S.), their overall numbers are growing, doubling every decade since 1970.1 AWIs includes individuals from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, and Tanzania. The American Community Survey 2015 revealed WAIs in the U.S. account for 327, 000 from Nigeria, 155,000 from Ghana, 28,000 from Tanzania, and 22,000 from Togo.1 WAIs were previously thought to develop CVD and/or risk factors such as diabetes type 2 (DMT2) only after migrating to the U.S.2 However, more recent findings demonstrate cardiometabolic syndrome (CMS), (a constellation of. hypertension, dysglycemia, dyslipidemia, and obesity) is prevalent in west Africa.2 In fact, WAIs were found to have worse CMS than African Americans.2 Moreover, many WAI are undiagnosed prior to U.S. arrival and are unaware they have CVD risk factors or CMS.3 Thus, WAIs are a vulnerable population for CVD, particularly in the areas of CVD risk knowledge and behavior.
