The aim of this research is to examine the effect of the 4Mat teaching model on the academic achievement and permanence of learning in the teaching of ratio and proportion subjects in the 7th grade mathematics course of secondary school. In the research, quasi-experimental design with pretest posttest control group was applied. The experimental and control groups of the research consist of 7th grade students studying in a state secondary school in a province in the south of Turkey. While the experimental group consisted of 20 students, the control group consisted of 18 students. The subject of ratio and proportion was taught in the experimental group with the help of the 4MAT teaching model. In the control group, a teacher-centered teaching was carried out in accordance with the curriculum without using any special teaching method. In this study, an achievement test of 20 multiple choice questions was created by the researcher to collect data. The test was administered to the groups as a pre-test before the training, post-test after the training, and a retention test approximately one month after the post-test. The analyzes of the quantitative data obtained in the research were found with the t-test. According to the quantitative data, the average achievement of the experimental group was found to be academically more successful than the control group, and the information was more permanent. As a result of this research, the 4Mat teaching model can be applied to other subjects of the mathematics course, the 4Mat teaching model can be taught both as in-service training to teachers and as an undergraduate course subject to teacher candidates.

The COVID 19 epidemic in our country has revealed the distance education process as a necessity instead of traditional face-to-face education as it is in the whole world. Secondary education history courses were also affected by this process. The main purpose of this research is to determine the problems that high school students and history teachers face in the distance education process in high school history lessons, the advantages/positive situations offered by distance education, and what kind of precautions they take against the problems they encounter in this process.
