Mental tasks classifications using S-transform for BCI applications 在BCI应用程序中使用s -转换进行心理任务分类

The classification of different types of mental tasks is an active area of research that seems to be ever expanding. This field is gaining interest from researchers all over the world. This study is intended to utilize the Stockwell transform (ST) to investigate the classification accuracy of five different types of mental tasks. A well known electroencephalogram (EEG) database (Keirn and Aunon database) has been used in this study. Two subjects from the database were considered for the study. k-means nearest neighborhood (k-NN) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) based classifiers were used to perform a pair-wise classification of the 10 combinations of mental tasks. Two different discriminant functions such as linear and quadratic were used in LDA classifier and their effects on the classification performance are presented. The effect of different ‘k’ values (1 to 10) was also studied in kNN algorithm. Conventional and k-fold cross validation methods were used to investigate the reliability of the classification results of the classifiers. The experimental results show that the proposed method gives promising pair-wise classification accuracy from 78.80% to 100%.

Cloud enabled spam filtering services: Challenges and opportunities 支持云的垃圾邮件过滤服务:挑战与机遇

The latest trend and technology buzzword in the IT industry is cloud computing. By leveraging on cloud computing's characteristics such as resilience, fault tolerance and high availability, a new generation of cloud based security solutions has emerged. This paper specifically looks at the notion of merging spam filtering with cloud computing and is one of the earliest studies done in this area. Following a discussion of spam filtering techniques and cloud computing descriptions, we look at the potential benefits and challenges for a cloud based spam filter. As an initial experiment, an existing server based spam filtering toolkit is deployed into a commercial cloud computing environment. The results show some drawbacks related to scalability. To address this shortcoming a new model for a scalable cloud spam analysis framework is proposed.

Post-processing of gated images by using seed growing fusion approach 基于种子生长融合的门控图像后处理

This paper introduces an image fusion technique on a gated image. Gated imaging is a powerful technique to capture images in turbid condition. By controlling the time delay of the shutter to capture the returning light, we can obtain the image at different depth. Modular transfer function (MTF) is used to evaluate the quality of the gated images. Images with useful information (clear and sharp objects) are gathered. Then, the images are segmented into squares. Every segment of every image is analyzed using MTF. The segment with the best contrast is selected to be used in the final image. The best of each segment is gathered and are used to reconstruct a new image with most of the useful information preserved in them. Then, post-processing is done on the constructed gated image for a seamless image fusion. Seeded region growing is one of the image segmentation techniques. This technique is utilized to look for the region with the same feature and segment the images into regions. The constructed gated image provides an image with monotonous coloration. Therefore, seeded region growing technique easily identifies the borders where there is abrupt change in color feature. The segment edge is one of these borders. An algorithm is used to check for the edges of the segment. Then, the segment edges are chosen for further processing. Gaussian filter is applied to the rough edge of the segment with obvious contrast. Gaussian filter is useful to blur images so that the color histogram will show a smooth color distribution. After the filter is applied, the rough edges will appear smooth and the objective of seamless image fusion is achieved. The final image has the useful information preserved and the borders of the segment are not obvious.

Development of monocular vision system for depth estimation in mobile robot — Robot soccer 用于移动机器人深度估计的单目视觉系统的开发——机器人足球

Vision system could enhance the mobile robot applications and features. However, the vision system could also improve the overall system of mobile robot so as to contain higher complexity with the purpose to be reliable, effective, robust and fast enough to achieve their goals. This paper will present a simple yet reliable monocular vision system in the mobile robot to increase their capabilities in depth estimation. By comparing few methods for circle detection such as Hough Transform (HT), Fast-Finding-and-Fitting (FFF) and background subtraction algorithm, the object of interest can be detected thus diameter will be calculated and finally estimated depth is obtained. This paper also will show the trick on how to solve the depth estimation if the object being too close to the camera. The relationship between distance and diameter is calculated by formula that is derived from calibration data.

Buck DC-DC converter for embedded control system 用于嵌入式控制系统的Buck DC-DC变换器

This paper investigated the use of the dc-to-dc switching converter on a mobile snake-like robot. The mentioned dc-to-dc power converter would be the buck converter using IRF540N MOSFET by International Rectifier on continuous-conduction mode. Circuit simulations were performed, the circuit was constructed for comparison with a readily available buck converter in the market. The National Semiconductor's Simple Switcher buck converter chip, LM2678T-ADJ, has been used for comparison purposes. The analysis shows that the switching regulator is more efficient compared to linear regulator in low-voltage high-current applications.

A comparison of two sigmoidal-type activation functions in video game controller evolution 电子游戏控制器演化过程中两种s型激活函数的比较

This paper presents an empirical comparison of two sigmoidal-type activation functions in evolutionary artificial neural network models. They are the log-sigmoid and hyperbolic tangent sigmoid activation functions which were investigated in order for evolving neural network controllers to play a classic video game. A Hill-Climbing Neural Network (HillClimbNet) was developed using the hill-climbing method together with a feedforward neural network to automatically create an intelligent controller that can play the screen-capture of Ms. Pac-man arcade game. The experimental results showed that that the HillClimbNet with log-sigmoid outperforms the HillClimbNet with hyperbolic tangent sigmoid when used in the hidden and output layers of the network when the agent plays the game.

Study of voltage profile of a distributed generation system 分布式发电系统电压分布的研究

An IEEE 34 node test feeder is constructed by using DIgSILENTPowerFactory. The load flow results are more or less as given by IEEE. Dynamic and static photovoltaic system, dynamic and static wind generator are modeled. Distributed generators are modeled in the setting in a way, such that load flow calculations can be carried out when they are interfaced to IEEE 34 node test feeders system. Different settings and locations are selected in order to observe the impacts on voltage profile. After distributed generators have been added, load flow results have shown improvement in voltage profiles. Hence, power losses have been reduced.

Heart rate monitoring system based on power line communication 基于电力线通信的心率监测系统

Nowadays, Power Line Communication (PLC) using pre-established Power Lines (PL) becomes more attractive for high data transmission technology. With the development of this technology utilizing distribution line, the medical data such as human Heart Rate (HR) can be transmitted over the power line channel. This paper presents a case study of HR Monitoring System (HRMS) involving the use of PLC as a channel to transfer the patient HR measured by Pulse Oximetry (PO). The collected data from the hospital will be stored in the system. The transmission of data on PLC is achieved by using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). The performance of the above techniques is evaluated based on the Bit Error Rate (BER).

Cascaded multilevel inverter based STATCOM with power factor correction feature 具有功率因数校正功能的STATCOM级联多电平逆变器

The paper investigates the STATCOM system based on five-level cascaded inverter controlled using carrier-based pulse width modulation (CB-PWM) technique. In this work, the STATCOM is controlled to provide only the reactive power compensation at the point of common coupling (PCC) when an RL load is connected to the power system at different lagging power factors. The rotating switching scheme is employed for the DC link voltage balancing while the phase angle control scheme is used in the STATCOM main system. A new current reference control method is proposed in this work and the effectiveness and the theoretical prediction of the proposed approach for different loading conditions is validated through simulation studies using MATLAB SIMULINK software package.

Simulation of nonholonomic trajectory for a car-like mobile platform using dubins shortest path model 基于dubin最短路径模型的类车移动平台非完整轨迹仿真

Vehicles that move autonomously have received a good deal of attention where various top agencies have been the major sponsor of research in this field. Natural disaster such as earthquake, typhoon and tsunami would be extremely dangerous for search and rescue operation. Autonomous vehicle would be a great piece of equipment which could response effectively to the incidence. Dubins curve is implemented in the study to obtain the shortest path for navigation on car-like mobile platform. Integrating the path planning feature into autonomous vehicle can optimize the vehicles performance especially when the power source is limited.
