Professionalization of Software Engineering: Next Steps 软件工程的专业化:下一步

Emerging critical social and economical factors have created a situation where it is vital that software engineering progress as a profession as soon as possible. This talk discusses current and near-term actions in the software engineering becoming a profession in four areas. One area is to clarify the "engineering" aspects of software engineering. This will help in establishing the boundary between software engineering and its related disciplines. Another area is to harmonize software engineering practices and consensus standards. This will contribute to a repeatable basis for the practicing software engineering. A third area is to identify the body of knowledge for software engineering. This will provide a foundation for software engineering education. Another area will be to baseline performance expectations for a software engineer practitioner. Performance expectations will provide the basis for the certification and licensure of individuals. The talk will use three perspectives to related progress and identify directions for each area. The three perspectives are: protection of the public in the use of software, development of software engineering work force, and improvement of the practice of software engineering.

The Body of Knowledge Project has developed a Strawman document. The Curriculum Task Force has developed a set of accreditation criteria and a new undergraduate Software Engineering Curriculum Model is currently under development.

Establishing a Distance Education Program 建立远程教育项目

The workshop on establishing a distance education programme will initially focus on a conventional software engineering module. The workshop participants will examine how their experiences of/interest in distance education can suggest a way forward in tailoring this module for a world wide delivery mechanism. The objectives of the workshop are: to determine how to turn existing courses into distance modes, to evaluate the implications of cultural issues (in establishing the programmes and in the delivery of material), to determine how to ensure the quality of courses, to determine how to ensure comparability of experience for students, and to assess the range of delivery mechanisms which have been tried and assessed.

Towards an Empirically Based Gamification Pattern Language using Machine Learning Techniques 利用机器学习技术实现基于经验的游戏化模式语言

The ineffectiveness of many gamification projects can be attributed to wrong decisions made during the conceptual design phase, especially in the selection of game design elements. This paper introduces a data driven method of creating a gamification pattern language similar to software design patterns to help gamification designers select such elements. Thanks to modern machine learning technologies such a pattern language can be based on a comprehensive empirical analysis to assess the actual use of game design elements in games. This paper is the first report on an ongoing research project that has been carried out since the beginning of 2017 in cooperation with the German Games Archive to extract game design elements from more than 30,000 board games using machine learning techniques. Initial tests based on support vector classification and 4,000 games show that game design elements can be reliably identified with accuracy rates between 80 and 90%.
