In order to prevent the damages caused by natural phenomena, such as, rain, cloud, lightning and squall, we use meteorological radars for the observation. In recent years, the demand is increasing for more accurate information for natural phenomena, since it is becoming more important to analyze the observation data for the prediction. We propose a prediction support system based on case-based retrieval for lightning flash. The system watches the change of thundercloud, and retrieves the similar cases of meteorological features. The retrieval results are shown with similarity for present meteorological circumstances.

We present the necessary and sufficient condition that an /spl alpha/-/spl beta/-/spl gamma/ filter is stable. We also show that there exist two different stable /spl alpha/-/spl beta/-/spl gamma/ filters one of which is derived from Kalman filter equations and another from fading memory filter equations. We derive equations of the steady state variances of an /spl alpha/-/spl beta/-/spl gamma/ filter for a constant velocity target. We also present the necessary and sufficient condition that these variances become positive. Furthermore, we show that this condition is equivalent to the stability condition.

A method based on the training technology of a fuzzy inference adaptive artificial neural network and nonlinear least-square (linear in structure) system identification technology for modeling the (T,P)-/spl rho/ table for a mass flow-meter is introduced. The model has several advantages such as saving calculation workload and storage space, having essential filterability. Thus the method is an effective help for the current development of high-degree integration technology of measuring and instrumentation.

Today's space vehicle structures are composed of large quantities of liquid fuel. Fuel-slosh occurs when fuel in a partially filled tank sloshes around inside the tank in response to vehicle acceleration. Fuel-slosh can be a severe problem in space vehicle stability and control if the fuel modes of motion couple significantly with the space vehicle's normal modes of motion. We propose a determination method for sloshing parameters. The proposed method is represented in a geometric sense. Also, we design an attitude controller for a launch vehicle with fuel-slosh. A PD controller and a slosh filter are designed for the purpose. The performance of the attitude controller is evaluated via computer simulations.

In this paper, a multivariable control problem is discussed. A multivariable process, "single component vaporiser", is implemented with the multi-input single-output fuzzy controller and the performance of the system is studied. The simulation studies on the system demonstrate that the fuzzy control system shows better results over the conventional schemes in steady state and transient responses.

Presents an environment perception approach based on a multi-layer sensing technique using one multi-functional sensor to measure temperature, humidity and brightness. It focuses on the processing of the multifunctional information in a multi-layer framework, which is more attractive in terms of both system simplicity and performance, and is proved to be effective to solve the problem of more than three quantities being reconstructed. A CdS and Fe/sub 3/O/sub 4/ material based multi-function sensor has been developed and the quantity creditability tactics for multi-layer data fusion has also been proposed for use.

Control systems have assumed an increasingly important role in the development and advancement of modern civilization and technology. Practically, every aspect of day-to-day activities is affected by some type of control system. Thus, the space-vector technique has become a popular pulse width technique (PWM) for three-phase inverters in applications such as control of AC induction and permanent-magnet synchronous motors. Digital control structures eliminate drifts, solve complex mathematical equations and by using a programmable processor, they can be easily upgraded for new control algorithms. Digital signal processors (DSPs) go further; their high performance allows them to perform high resolution control and minimize control loop delays. These technological improvements supported by artificial neural networks (ANN) have enabled the development of really effective AC drive control with ever lower power dissipation hardware and ever more accurate control structures.

An asymmetric servovalve with even underlaps or uneven underlaps is proposed and investigated. The aim is to speed-up the step response of a pneumatic force control system. By using an asymmetric servovalve whose down-stream port width is twice the up-stream one, first, the structures of the asymmetric servovalve with even underlaps or uneven underlaps are mainly considered and introduced in detail. Next, the steady-state characteristics of these types of servovalves for this approach, which are applicable to different underlaps and different port-width ratios of the spool valve, are investigated. The theoretical results agreed fairly well with the experimental ones.

This paper describes the mixed H/sub 2//H/sub /spl infin// controller design method of linear systems with time-varying delays in both state and control input. More specifically, the proposed mixed H/sub 2//H/sub /spl infin// controller minimizes the H/sub 2/ norm of a closed loop system under satisfying a prescribed H/sub /spl infin// norm bound on some other closed loop system. The sufficient condition for the existence of controller, the mixed H/sub 2//H/sub /spl infin// controller design method, and the upper bound of performance measure are presented using LMI (linear matrix inequality) technique. Also, all solutions including controller gain and the upper bound of performance measure are obtained simultaneously.

A method for the identification of complex nonlinear dynamics of a multilink robot manipulator using Runge-Kutta-Gill neural networks (RKGNN) in the absence of input torque information is proposed. The RKGNN constructed using shape adaptive radial basis functions (RBF) are trained using an evolutionary algorithm. Due to the fact that the main function network is divided into subnetworks to represent detailed properties of the dynamics of a manipulator, the neural networks have greater information processing capacity and they can be tested for properties such as positive definiteness of the inertia matrix. Dynamics of an industrial seven-link manipulator are identified using only input-output position and their velocity data. Promising experimental control results are obtained to prove the ability of the proposed method in capturing highly nonlinear dynamics of a multilink manipulator in an effective manner.
