Method to Ensure a Feasible Wavelength Assignment within the Routing-Only Problem for Transparent WDM Networks 透明WDM网络中仅路由问题中确保波长分配可行的方法

In transparent WDM networks, the optimization problem contains the routing and the wavelength assignment problem, which leads to a high computational complexity. We suggest a set of constraints which either ensures a wavelength assignment solution for a calculated routing, or tests a preprocessed routing for a feasible wavelength assignment. First case studies show a remarkable speed up in calculation time as well as an evaluation of the optimality of the planning solution.

In this presentation we will address the problem of realization of artificial magnetic materials for optical applications. Various approaches potentially leading to this goal will be reviewed and compared. In particular, the resonant response of split-ring resonators and double-bar resonators used to create artificial magnetic response at terahertz and optical frequencies will be analysed in detail. Estimations for the highest achievable resonant frequency will be given, and the problem of particle shape optimization will be addressed.

Reliability Performance of Passive Optical Networks 无源光网络可靠性研究

In this paper reliability performance analysis of some representative protection schemes for Passive Optical Networks PONs is presented. We study three PON architectures defined by ITU-T as well as two architectures that provide reliable connections to business customers and compare connection availability in order to select the most promising protection scheme for the future access solution. Our results show that for the considered architectures a sufficient connection availability level can be obtained only in the scheme with full duplication of network resources.

Low-Cost Micro-Optical Modules for Datacommunication to Optical Interconnections from the LAN-to the PCB-Level 用于从局域网到pcb级的数据通信到光互连的低成本微光模块

One of the grand challenges in solving the interconnection bottlenecks at the printed circuit board (PCB) and multi-chip-module (MCM) level, is to adequately replace the PCB and intra-MCM galvanic interconnects with high-performance, low-cost, compact and reliable micro-photonic alternatives. Therefore we address the following components in this paper: 1) out-of-plane couplers for optical waveguides embedded in PCB, 2) peripheral fiber ribbons and two-dimensional single- and multimode fiber connectors for high-speed parallel optical connections, and 3) intra-MCM level optical interconnections via free-space optical modules. For the fabrication of these micro-optical interconnect modules, we are focusing at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on the continuous development of a rapid prototyping technology, which we call deep proton writing (DPW). The special feature of this prototyping technology is that it is compatible with commercial low-cost mass replication techniques such as micro injection moulding and hot embossing.

Control Algorithm for Multi-Plane Photonic Banyan-Type Switching Fabric with and without First Order Crosstalk 有无一阶串扰的多平面光子榕树型交换结构控制算法

Control algorithms for the multiplane baseline switching network are considered in this paper. The first algorithm do not take into account the crosstalk in switching element, while the second algorithm allows to omit the first order crosstalk. In both cases we have derived wide-sense non-blocking conditions. It is also shown that these algorithms require the smallest number of plane, i.e. there is no other algorithms which will lead to the lower number of needed planes. It should be noted, that the algorithm can determine a plane for a new connection in O(N0.5) time or even in O(1) time depending on the implementation.

Adaptive Burst Assembly Mechanism for OBS Networks Using Control Channel Availability 基于控制信道可用性的OBS网络自适应突发装配机制

Burst dropping rate is a major issue for OBS networks. Unlike classical circuit switching, contention between bursts may cause blocking and make consequent loss within the network. Since the network can not carry a burst without its control packet, the control channel must be able to carry the complete BCP load. We propose a new assembly mechanism which takes into account the control channel availability. In this mechanism, a burst is created only if its control packet can be transmitted. We present preliminary results that show how monitoring the control channel in the burst assembly mechanism can significantly improve the network performance. Simulations show that the proposed mechanism changes adaptively the burst length, reduces the possibility of continuous blocking problem, reduces the packets loss rate, and increases the throughput while still satisfying the maximum assembly delay.

A numerical study of the influence of optical feedback on the dynamics of high-bit-rate mode-locked laser diodes is presented. A wide variety of dynamic regimes is discovered, which is qualitatively different to both single-frequency and self-pulsing lasers, with the dynamics different in resonant and nonresonant cases. The relation of the findings to the recent experimental results is discussed.
