Tunable passively mode-locked fibre ring laser 可调谐被动锁模光纤环形激光器

A polarization-dependent Mach-Zehnder amplitude modulator was used in the passively mode-locked fibre ring laser. When the modulator was biased at different voltages, stable soliton train with tunable repetition rates from 50 GHz to 300 GHz was observed.

Effects of chirp mechanism on spectrum broadening of external modulators 啁啾机制对外部调制器频谱展宽的影响

We show that a LiNbO/sub 3/ Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) with optical unbalancing in the two waveguides produces a chirped NRZ data stream without inducing spectral broadening as it happens with conventional chirped MZM (which employ electrical asymmetry).

By using an integrated optical frequency-shift-keying (FSK) modulator, we demonstrate 10 Gbit/s optical FSK transmission over a 130 km single mode fiber. Fiber dispersion was compensated by a balanced photodetector with an optical delay.

We demonstrate a self-starting optical-pulse source at 10 GHz using an optoelectronic-oscillator based on an EML. The RF-component is generated from stimulated-Brillouin-scattering in optical fiber. Different types of optical fibers are used respectively to generate optical pulses at different repetition rates.

Tunable dispersion compensator with twin chirped fiber gratings for polarization mode dispersion and chromatic dispersion 双啁啾光纤光栅偏振模色散和色散可调色散补偿器

We have developed new tunable dispersion compensators with twin chirped fiber gratings for polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and chromatic dispersion (CD), simultaneously, and successfully demonstrated their ability to change differential group delay (DGD) and chromatic dispersion, independently. The tuning range for the DGD and CD are 150 ps and 200 ps/nm, respectively. The validity of this device for ultra high speed optical communication was confirmed by the simulations of 43 Gbit/s CS-RZ optical transmission.

We present a novel wide band VOA with low PDL. Our device is a symmetric MZI-based PLC component that uses y-junctions and adiabatic couplers. We describe a model that explains PDL for this VOA and enables polarization control.

We demonstrate a novel fused-type mode-selective coupler that couples the LP/sub 13/ cladding mode in one fiber to the LP/sub 01/ core mode in another fiber around 1550 nm. Coupling efficiency of 70% was achieved.
