The impact of phase errors caused by imperfect return-to-zero (RZ) pulse carving on optical differential quadrature phase-shift keying (DQPSK) is analyzed. The two-symbol-delayed interferometric demodulation is proposed as an effective means to mitigate this degradation.

Fabrication of multi-channel polymeric PLC-type variable optical attenuator by UV embossing 多通道聚合物plc型可变光衰减器的UV压印制备

Polymeric PLC-type thermo-optic variable optical attenuator was fabricated without residual slab waveguide by UV imprinting. Polymeric VOA showed 30 dB attenuation with 80 mW input power at 1.55 /spl mu/m. The rise and fall times are less than 5 msec.

A tunable laser consisting of a silica-waveguide triple-ring resonator connected directly to a semiconductor optical amplifier is presented. Stable single-mode, grid-hopping free and full-band wavelength-digitally-tuning operations with 50-GHz channel spacing are successfully demonstrated.

This paper presents the hardware architecture for a user-controlled network interface supporting sub-wavelength bandwidth-on-demand services. Results show the architecture is well suited for mapping user traffic into optical packets or bursts directly controlled by the user.

We demonstrate multi-channel residual dispersion compensation in a 40 Gbit/s optical transmission system with 100 GHz channel spacing using a single adaptive all-fiber delay line filter. The device is based on 3/spl times/3 fiber couplers.

We evaluated the effect of MPI noise on various modulation formats in a distributed Raman amplified system. The results show that RZ-DPSK is the most tolerant modulation format to MPI noise.
