Introduction: therapeutic options for incisors affected by Molar Incisor Hypomineralization range from very conservative procedures to those considered to be more invasive. Clinicians must select the appropriate approach, considering the outcomes of the procedures. Methods: this case series presents clinical outcomes of five female patients with aesthetic complaints associated with the Molar Incisor Hipomineralization. Results: macroabrasion, microabrasion and dental vital bleaching were used as combination techniques in three cases. Resin infiltration was indicated for a specific case, considering the oncoming orthodontic treatment. Composite restoration was performed in one patient with posteruptive enamel breakdown. Conclusions: clinicians must select the appropriate approach according to an individualized evaluation of each case, considering factors such as the patient's expectations, dental age, psychosocial period, the severity of the condition, presence of sensitivity and the presumed aesthetic result of the selected treatment. The advantages and disadvantages of the techniques are presented.

Introduction: women and trans people who have engaged in sex work are triply vulnerable since they are victims of discrimination due to their employment status, their gender, and the risks that this work entails. This situation impacts their health situation. This study aimed to know the perceptions about health (physical, mental, and oral) of four women who work in prostitution in Medellin, based on their life experiences and those related to their social context. Methods: qualitative research with an ethnographic approach was conducted to analyze the situations mentioned. Four women participated, two Venezuelans and two Colombians, and semi-structured interviews were conducted. Qualitative content analysis was performed, which allowed the generation of four categories (mental health, oral health, general health, and quality of life). Results: her discourses made it possible to elucidate the connection between the living conditions and the health situation. The lack of job opportunities, a migratory process of profound economic and social changes, and a Colombia with inequities and barriers to access to health and social services are determining processes of a general and singular order of the precarious conditions of oral health and general. Conclusions: the participating population is in a situation of social and health vulnerability, which shows the need for public policies and strategies based on the social reality that contribute to generating equity in health.

Introduction: the Oroantral Communication (OAC) is the space that is created between the maxillary sinus and the oral cavity, which if not treated will progress to an Oroantral Fistula (OAF) or chronic sinus disease. The most common predisposing factor for a COA is the extraction of the upper posterior teeth (usually the first or second molars). The aim of this study was to carry out a literature review with emphasis on clinical implications and treatment alternatives of a COA through an update and review of information of interest. Methods: a literature review was carried out through a collection and analysis of bibliography of oroantral communications and the comparison and treatment alternatives. Discussion: various techniques have been proposed for the management of an AOC, among which are local flaps, as well as the use of biomaterials, which have given favorable results in closing the defect. Conclusion: the treatment of an AOC has as purpose to prevent its progression to an AFO, the development of sinusitis and/or that the defect increases; To do this, the clinician must be familiar with the various techniques based on the patient's needs.

Introduction: the in vitro study compared the dynamic cyclic fatigue resistance of 3 reciprocating NiTi files with heat treatment. Methods: we distributed 30 new endodontic files in three groups. The endodontic files selected for this experiment were: AF Blue R3 25/06 (AFB) (Fanta Dental, Shanghai, China), X1 Blue File 25/06 (X1B) (MK Life, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil), and Reciproc Blue 08/25 (RB) (VDW, Munich, Germany. We measured the time to file fractureand the length of the fractured fragment. ANOVA analysis was used, followed by the Tukey test for multiple comparisons, with a significance level of 5% (P < 0.05). Results: the mean time in seconds until the file fractured was 170.7 ±15.1 for AFB files, 110.4 ±26.8 for X1B, and 163.3 ±22.9 for RB files. This difference was statistically significant when comparing X1B to AFB (p: 0.000) and X1B to RB (p: 0.000). However, there are no statistically significant differences between RB and AFB (p:0.739). Conclussions: this study found that RB and AFB files exhibit similar resistance to cyclic fatigue.

Introduction: the objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between incisor inclination at the end of orthodontic treatment with the anterior teeth alignment stability using PAR index. Methods: analytical cross-sectional study, the angle formed between the plane (Silla-Nasion) (U1-NS) and the inclination of the upper incisor and the angle between axial inclination of the lower incisor and mandibular plane (Go-Gn), were measured in 47 initial and final lateral radiographs of patients who finished orthodontic treatment. The anterior sector PAR index was applied to pretreatment (T0), posttreatment (T1) and follow-up (T2) casts. Statistical analysis was performed using frequency and percentage distributions, T test, Anova I, Anova II and Manova; significance p = 0,05. Results: no association was found between upper and lower incisor inclination, alignment stability and PAR weighted score between T2-T1 (p> 0,05). The PAR decreased 75,29% from T0 to T1 and 58,79% from T0 to T2, with a recurrence of 16,5%. There was no association between retainer type and PAR weighted score. From T0 to T2 there was an association between the interaction of the incisor inclination of upper (p = 0,03) and lower (p = 0,04), with the weighted total score of the PAR index. Conclusion: there was no association between the modification of the incisor inclination with the stability of the anterior sector. At the end of orthodontic treatment there was a high level of correction in the anterior-superior and inferior sector, however, there was a recurrence of 16,5%.

At the end of orthodontic treatment there was a high level of correction in the anterior-superior and inferior sector, however, there was a recurrence of 16,5%.","PeriodicalId":272900,"journal":{"name":"Revista Facultad de Odontología","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128323807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Introduction: Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) endodontic files are made of hyperelastic material with shape memory. However, these files suffer a sudden fracture during the endodontic treatment, which is considered an unfavorable prognosis. Many studies have been conducted to establish fatigue resistance focused on file brands and determine which is better. Although the most common failure mechanisms have been established for motorized endodontic files, the information is scattered, making it difficult to develop clear research trends. Methods: a scoping review was carried out using Scopus, Dimensions.ai, Web of Science, and Science Direct databases to answer screening questions related to the predominant fracture mechanism in NiTi files, test types, and equipment used for experimentation and to identify the most active authors.Results: using the general search terms, 432 research papers were found, of which 75 were finally selected after eliminating duplicates and applying exclusion criteria. Conclusions: typical failure mechanisms for rotatory and reciprocating files were identified based on the panoramic review and bibliometric indicators. Also, the standard mechanical tests for endodontic files and the characteristics of their assemblies were summarized. The most active authors in the area and their nationality were tagged. Finally, gaps for future research are proposed to generate a comprehensive knowledge of NiTi file failure.

Dental extraction is one of the most common and most frequent surgical procedures performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons. This surgical procedure is carried out in a controlled environment that ensures success in most cases. However, unexpected complications with a high risk of causing temporary or permanent disabling injuries may develop. This review focuses on rare complications that can occur when performing dental extractions. In order to fulfill the purpose of this review, a literature search was carried out in different databases; 34 articles reporting rare complications were selected, all were case reports. It was found that the most reported unusual complications after dental extraction were spinal epidural abscess and emphysema. Low mortality associated with these complications was also observed. Similarly, there are currently few publications on unusual complications as a result of tooth extraction. These rare complications should be reported more frequently in order to expand our Knowledge and to establish care protocols
