Auction based bandwidth allocation on the Internet 基于拍卖的互联网带宽分配

QoS provisioning on the Internet entails resource allocation as per the service level agreements (SLAs) with the customer. Since, the duration of the time slots over which the resources are allocated is short, resources are allocated and de-allocated frequently. In this paper, an auction based mechanism has been proposed and evaluated for nearly consistent reservation of bandwidth together with revenue maximization for the service provider. In the usual auction mechanism, bidding is performed on the assumption that the reserve price is fixed and is known to the customers a priori. This assumption leads to an inefficient market and the revenue of the seller suffers. In the proposed auction model, a varying reserve price is proposed and incorporated in the progressive second price (PSP) model. The variation in the reserve price acts as a signal to the users to modify their bids accordingly. The results suggest that this mechanism helps raise the potential revenue of the seller irrespective of the price mechanism being adopted

Numerical modeling and simulation of fibre-Bragg grating based devices for all-optical communication network 基于光纤光栅的全光通信网络器件的数值建模与仿真

We present a numerical model and simulated results of fibre Bragg grating based WDM system. The proposed devices posses a significant improved wavelength conversion efficiency as compared to its AWG companion. Also, we present a FBG based dispersion comparator for an optical network. The device offers significantly improved bandwidth utilization and dispersion linearity over conventional designs. In our simulation, which took into account different sets of wavelength, the response of the device and dispersion compensation levels were studied. Also, we have shown a periodically modulated dispersion profile in the process of dispersion compensation

Fast cell synchronization for beyond 3G OFDMA based system 超3G OFDMA系统的快速小区同步

The 3GPP Long Term Evaluation project is looking at the possibility of application of OFDM in the downlink, in order to support a high downlink data rates - 100 Mbps. In this evolved UTRA, a fast cell search is necessary because besides considering the 900-MHz frequency band GSM spectrum and the WCDMA-3G spectrum; an additional spectrum is to be used. Multiple transmission bandwidths from 1.25 to 20 MHz will be used in the evolved UTRA and UTRAN; thus UE's with different bandwidth capabilities and BTS's with different frequency bandwidth capabilities need to be considered. In this paper, we propose an idea, for an initial cell search, through which a fast symbol and sub-frame synchronization, is possible. The proposed downlink control channel would eliminate the need to use pilot channels for channel estimation. We propose to use new channel - BBCH (basic broadcast channel), which will be used for transmission of limited system information, for the UE to move to the allocated spectrum, and which will reduce the overhead of frame synchronization for initial cell access

We are using different approaches of gain flattening in EDFAs without using additional components. By using the gain flattening approach-III, the transmission of sixteen channels at 40 Gb/s wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) over the transmission distance of 490 km by single mode fiber and dispersion compensating fiber at the span of 70 km with channel spacing of 200 GHz is made possible. We observed the good quality and power of received signal with the NRZ-DPSK format

Analysis of handoff initiation using different path loss models in mobile communication system 移动通信系统中不同路径损耗模型下的切换起始分析

Handoff is the mechanism that transfers an ongoing call from one cell to another as a user moves through the coverage area of a cellular system. Handoff is the key operation in cellular mobile communication system, which is accomplished by the system and is unperceptible for the user. In this paper, the received signal strength from the two base stations is calculated and plotted with respect to distance. Different path loss models for macrocells have been used and then the received signal strength is calculated to determine the model that can be adopted to minimize the number of handoffs and avoid ping pong effect

Routing improvement using multiple disjoint paths for ad hoc networks 对自组织网络使用多条不相交路径的路由改进

Multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks have the potential to dramatically reduce the cost of deploying communication infrastructure. However, the nature of this technology limits the capacity of radio links. Thus, it is important to utilize them as efficiently as possible. Routing in ad hoc networks is a complicated task because of many reasons. For traffic engineering, multipath capabilities are important. In this paper, a source routing based multi-path OLSR (SR-MPOLSR) protocol is proposed. In this protocol, MPRs (multi-point relays) are used to obtain the network topology effectively and multiple Dijkstra algorithms are used to calculate multiple routes and to allocate the loads in a weighted round-robin fashion. Data transmission at the source is carried out through predetermined multiple paths (hence source routing). Our experiments have shown that SR-MPOLSR can, to some extent, increase the utility of network resources and network throughput, improve robustness and reliability of the transmission service, and reduce the average transmission delay

Effects of CPM and FWM phenomena are quantitatively evaluated in conjunction with NRZ and optical soliton transmission formats in DWDM systems. CPM leads to spectral broadening which may cause severe pulse distortion. While FWM may result in significant crosstalk among the optical channels. To improve system performance, understanding nonlinear optical effects in long-haul transmission systems is important. In this paper, we investigate both the Q-factor performance of CPM effects and the generated FWM power for a 32 channel DWDM transmission system using NRZ and optical soliton signals

Lessons learned from long-term micro-browser software architecture evolution 从长期的微浏览器软件架构演变中获得的经验教训

With recent advances in devices, networking infrastructure and content, the mobile Internet is becoming a solid reality. The embedded software engineering needs to cope with this emerging demand. With the rapid changes in the mobile Internet landscape, it is difficult to identify how the software design methods are managed in this domain. There are multiple design factors in the embedded software architecture: portability, alignment to CPU and memory constraints, performance, extensibility, reliability and time to market. In order to identify the fits between these factors and requirements, the author describes the characteristics and design focus of four different microbrowser software architectures, which evolves for a decade to meet the digital appliance requirements. The author summarizes the design focus shift from the early stage to the recent stage. From this retrospective analysis, the author describes the relationship among software architecture, underlying environments and mobile-specific content, which is unique in the mobile microbrowser software engineering

Virtual sub carrier based frequency synchronization algorithm for MC-CDMA system 基于虚拟子载波的MC-CDMA系统频率同步算法

In third generation wireless communication system, high data rate multimedia services are achieved through wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) systems. Multi carrier CDMA system provides the advantage of frequency diversity in CDMA system and thus reduces the bit error rate. Capacity of CDMA based systems can be increased by decreasing BER, which is possible through interference reduction, interference cancellation and proper synchronization. In this paper, virtual sub carrier based frequency synchronization algorithm is proposed which reduces the BER of MC CDMA system without any transmission overhead and hence enhances the capacity

Stealth steganography in SMS 短信中的隐形隐写

The short message service, abbreviated to SMS, is one of the services used in mobile phones and has been warmly welcomed by the public throughout the world, esp. in Asia and Europe. Using this service, individuals can write and send to each other short messages and also black and white pictures. On the one hand, considering the issue of information security and esp. establishing hidden communications, many methods have been presented for hidden communications, among which steganography is a relatively new one. Combining steganography of data in picture and using pictures in SMS messages, this article proposes a method for hidden exchange of information. The main focus of this article is on steganography in B&W (black and white) pictures and making this possible on mobile phones considering the limitations in mobile phones. After receiving a picture message containing hidden data, the decoder program extracts the data and immediately changes the steganography places. Therefore, the picture saved on the recipient's mobile phone will not contain any hidden information. This paper has been implemented with J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition) and has been implemented on a Nokia 6680 mobile phone
