This paper aims to demonstrate how the transformative strategies of resistance introduced by Bill Ashcroft in his theory of transformation can be contextualized in Mahmoud Darwish's poetic discourse of resistance. It also attempts to investigate which of Ashcroft‟s transformative strategies are intensively woven into the texture of Darwish‟s poems to impart a creative mode of resistance. To counter the Israeli colonial discourse of hegemony and injustice, Darwish defiantly produces, through his poetry, an anticolonial discourse that aptly challenges and transforms the Israeli imperial discourse. What is remarkable in the anti-colonial discourse rendered in Darwish's poetry is the fact that it is approached from the lens of the Palestinians themselves and it follows a systematic pattern of resistance. It starts with a process of interpolation through which the poet tries to understand the imperial discourse, analyzes it in detail and then adapts and changes it to correct its misrepresentation of reality. This mode of transformative resistance never leads to direct confrontation with the enemy's discourse. It, rather, involves creative ways of transcending the provocative, imperial discourses and disclosing their inconsistencies.

The current study examines translation strategies for retaining parallelism in Dr. Mostafa Mahmoud's book A Dialogue with an Atheist . The study draws on a theoretical Framework of Andrew Chesterman (2016) syntactic strategy model for analyzing the data. The objective of the study is to investigate how parallelism in Arabic version is dealt with in its translation into English. The frequency of occurrence of parallelism is calculated to highlight the extent to which the English translation has retained a similar use of parallelism to achieve a similar impact on the readers. The results reveal that ten strategies are employed: literal translation, loan translation, transposition, unit shift, phrase structure change, clause structure change, sentence structure change, cohesion change, level shift and scheme change to maintain parallelism in the English translation of the book. Moreover, it has been found that literal translation (25%), cohesion change (22%) and scheme change (11.4%) are most widely used strategies to retain the parallel structures. The translator succeeded in maintaining the original text and conveying the style and emotion of the author. The study concluded that the translator should not only have command of both languages involved but should also be well-informed with the style of the writer or philosopher. In fact, in literary translation the translator faces the challenges of handling two translation principles: transferring an unaltered message and preserving the style of the writer. Further research is suggested to involve more analysis of Chesterman's translation model to investigate the semantic and pragmatic types used in the book.

In their attempt to move beyond the Enlightenment, Romantic writers formulated a worldview which recreated the theological unity of being on the plane of immanence. This intellectual unity was imposed on the deeply divided Victorian society which was described by Benjamin Disraeli, the British prime minister, as ―the two nations.‖ Imposing a unified intellectual framework on a sharply divided society without being able to develop it from within is bound to merely cover the division with an ideological smokescreen. This study explores how romantic ideology manifests itself in the dominant form of Romantic realism in the fiction of early Victorian writers. It, then, investigates the dominant form of late Victorian fiction in order to prove that it functions as ideology critique. Romantic fiction in the early Victorian period, on the one hand, attempts to unify the individual and society, man and nature and the different social classes through showing how they are permeated by a unifying spirit. The form of late Victorian tragedy, on the other hand, which shows the opposition between the individual and society, man and nature and the social classes is the result of debunking the faith in unity as merely ideological. When unity is exposed as merely ideological, what remains is the opposition in which the individual is defeated in his struggle against a greater power, creating, thereby, the distinctive form of tragedy. Late Victorian tragedy is, hence, the exposition of oppositions without unification.
