This study presents a genetic algorithm (GA) with variable parameters to forecast electricity demand using stochastic procedures. The economic indicators used in this paper are price, value added, number of customers and consumption in the last periods. This model can be used to estimate energy demand in the future by optimizing parameter values using available data. The GA applied in this study has been tuned for all the GA parameters and the best coefficients with minimum error is finally found, while all the GA parameter values are tested together. The estimation errors of genetic algorithm model are less than that of estimated by regression method. Finally, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied to compare genetic algorithm, regression and actual data. It was found that at alpha = 0.05 the three treatments are not equal and therefore LSD method was used to identify which model is closer to actual data. Moreover, it showed that genetic algorithm has better estimated values for electricity consumption in Iranian agriculture sector

This paper presents a novel model for short term forecasting of daily electrical load curve in power systems by using of two Kohonen neural networks (KNNs).The proposed model is sensitive to atmospheric factors such as temperature. In addition it is able to forecast normal and abnormal days of year such as holidays, ceremonies, religious and etc, with high accuracy. Ten models are considered for forecasting each day of week, special holidays, the days before special holidays and the days after special holidays .In structure of each model, two KNNs are used. This model is tested with load and temperature information of Iran power network and MAD for non special days at years of 2002, 2003 and 2004 is 1.73%, 1.68% and 1.57% . Performance studies results show that the proposed model is very accurate

The paper proposes a high efficiency and totally feasible tool that permits a rigorous study of magnetic devices, being intended firstly to the research and design activity. The method uses the most modern tools in circuit analysis, being a result of a long-time experience of authors. It deals with an accurate modeling that permits to find the distribution of magnetic fluxes everywhere in the core, at any time. The modeling is made through an equivalent electric circuit described by the same differential-algebraic equation system as the studied device in transient regime. Therefore, this circuit is analyzed using dedicated software, like SPICE. Such software has special capabilities to prevent convergence problems that usually occur in nonlinear DAE solving, as well as performing optimizations of certain parameters. The method permits not only the rigorous study of the magnetic device, but additionally a high precision analysis of complex equipments that contain magnetic devices

Evolvable assembly systems (EAS) are aimed to enable enterprises to rapidly respond to changes in today's increasingly volatile and dynamic global markets. One of the key success factors for the effective use of EAS is methods and tools that can rapidly configure and reconfigure assembly systems driven by changing requirements. The focus of this paper is on the analysis of modular assembly systems within the EAS paradigm. The specific roles of synthetic design environments and their supporting knowledge models are being explored within the scope of EAS systems. Furthermore, the paper outlines an ontology for the design of modular assembly systems (ONTOMAS) and illustrates its enabling role within the EAS paradigm. The results of this work are expected to significantly improve the evolvability of modular assembly systems

In this paper an automatic PCA (principal component analysis) based algorithm is presented for an on-line diagnostics of three-phase PWM feed induction motor stator fault. The analysis of the fault is derived from the two first principal components of the power inverter output current alphabeta-vector patterns. The obtained eigenvalues are used to discern if the motor is healthy or not, and the correspondent eigenvectors can infer the phase in which the fault occurs. The method is simple to implement and is able to indicate the extend of the fault; rather then only detect its presence

The applications of wireless sensor network in urban intelligent transportation system (ITS) were lucubrated, and an ARM9 SoC (system-on-chip) embedded sensor node was developed for urban traffic information collection and data transmission and reception. Together with the appropriate software programmed and intelligent control model for the urban traffic system built, the real time traffic data could be collected and processed for information distribution, and macro and scale coordination for ITS control within a city range through wireless sensor network that consists of this newly designed sensor nodes. Related algorithm for calculating the space occupancy and the congestion expectation for ITS purpose is presented, and the vehicle speed model is illustrated. Simulation results show that this novel ITS system based on the newly designed SoC embedded sensor nodes is practical and feasible. In addition, this system is also characterized at higher cost-performance, flexibility and control efficiency comparing to those ITS systems based on the Global Position Systems

This paper presents an optimisation study of a photovoltaic (PV) pumping system using maximum power point tracking technique (MPPT). The optimisation is based on new reference voltage criterion, which is the addition of the open circuit voltage of photovoltaic generator and a segment of solar radiation. This technique is developed to ensure an optimum chopping ratio of a back-boost converter. This guarantees a simple practical execution. The design and implementation of a fault-tolerant control rod control system for nuclear power plants is described. High reliability and safety are necessary for the instrumentation and control systems for safety-critical plants such as nuclear power plants. For a control rod control system that controls the nuclear reactivity inside the reactor by inserting or withdrawing the rods into or from the reactor, the reliability is more critical than the safety since its malfunction directly results in an unexpected shutdown of the power plant. This paper deals with a design and implementation practice to enhance the reliability of the control system. The reliability enhancement is basically achieved by adopting hardware redundancy in its structure. The reliability is evaluated quantitatively to check if the designed and implemented system is reliable enough to be applied to commercial plants. The ability of fault detection realized in the system is expected to give a further reliability enhancement by means of software. The bumpless control problem that can be arisen from adopting hardware redundancy is discussed here. Also a new algorithm for the rod movement detection is briefly introduced and demonstrated with a test result

The goal of this paper is to introduce an innovate analytic procedure to reduce the high degree of any characteristic equation to minor degrees applying the criterion of gain margin and phase margin curve (GMPMC) to design control systems. The philosophy of GMPMC is to develop quantitative results so in this case, the main characteristic of the GMPMC procedure is to develop and present system behaviors for infinite variations of gain and show its total characteristics in a curve which contains all their possible gain margins and phase margins, so all polynomial approaches to the minor degrees have exactly the same phase margin of the original one when gain changes in infinite intervals. Another important characteristic of this procedure allows us to approach the final response y(t) with the contribution of all its space state variables once one of them has been eliminated
