— This paper proposes an improved non-isolated high gain DC-DC converter based on quadratic boost topology. The proposed converter contains multiplier cells to boost the output voltage level of the converter. The switched capacitor gain cell acts as multiplier and provides necessary gain improvement. A mathematical model of the high gain converter is derived based on the physical significance of the capacitors during on and off states of the switches. The controller parameters are obtained using the genetic algorithm optimization method. The proposed topology provides high gain without using extreme duty ratios. To regulate the output voltage, a closed loop PID control scheme is also proposed for the high gain converter. The proposed circuit, i.e., the high gain DC-DC converter in closed loop with PID controller is tested in MATLAB/Simulink environment. The obtained results show that the proposed circuit provides stable high voltage output even during the presence of input and load variations.

In the centralized robust multi-sensor recursive least-square (RLS) Wiener filtering algorithm, the number of recursive equations increases compared to that of the centralized multi-sensor RLS Wiener filter in linear discrete-time stationary stochastic systems with uncertain parameters. Due to the increase in the number of recursive Riccati-type algebraic equations, the accumulation of round-off errors is not negligible. The round-off errors cause unstable numerical characteristics of the filter, especially for the small variance of the observation noise. To reduce the round-off errors as the first attempt in the research field of centralized robust multi-sensor estimation this paper designs the Chandrasekhar-type centralized robust multi-sensor RLS Wiener filter, which updates the filter gains recursively. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed filter, a numerical simulation example is demonstrated and its estimation accuracy is compared with the centralized robust multi-sensor RLS Wiener filter and the centralized multi-sensor RLS-Wiener filter. The obtained results show that the proposed filter exhibits better stability. Keywords— Chandrasekhar-type centralized robust RLS Wiener filter; Multi-sensor information fusion; Base station; Autoregressive model; Uncertain stochastic systems.

— Despite the advantages of social networks, they may be a good platform for some crimes such as drug marketing. Unfortunately, due to the large amount of information on social networks as well as the anonymity of users, it is very difficult to identify and detect these crimes; so it is necessary to provide automatic tools to search and report criminals on these networks. So far, several methods are introduced with the capability of automatically detecting criminals. However, all of these methods require access to content published by the users. In this paper, a new method is proposed. It is capable of identifying criminals in social networks based not on their published content but only on their social relationships. The proposed method is based on the assumption that criminals, indirectly, have strong connections with each other. It includes two algorithms, the first algorithm is utilized for crawling the social network, and the second algorithm for detecting criminal users among the users collected in the first phase. Having an initial set of criminals, the method first crawls the network starting from this set. The crawler is configured to collect users who are more likely to be criminals. Then, these users and their relationships form a graph, and users are ranked based on five centrality measures (namely degree, betweenness, closeness, hubs and authority centralities) that have a strong correlation with the likelihood of users being criminals. The obtained results show that the proposed method can well identify criminals and rank them. The degree and closeness centralities showed the best results while betweenness centrality showed the worst results. For instances, the closeness centrality has been able to correctly identify criminals with 90% accuracy.

This paper presents EyePaint, a system that enables hands-free painting on canvas via webcam-based gaze estimation software, a custom graphical user interface (GUI), and a computer numerical control (CNC) modified for painting. The proposed system’s primary use is to assist a user with a physical disability in painting on canvas. Gaze estimation is administered using only a webcam through a unique combination of object detection algorithms, like Haar cascades, to localize facial features and learned linear regression models to translate facial features to gaze location. The custom GUI allows a user to draw a line or a circle in four different paint colors on a virtual canvas before committing their shape to a physical canvas solely through using the lowaccuracy webcam-based gaze estimation. The system and its prototype are found to have utility through basic acceptance and system testing, but the chosen gaze estimation solution is generally too low accuracy for a positive user experience. Keywords— Gaze estimation; Eye tracking; Computer numerical control; Assistive technology; Painting; Graphical user interface.

Abstract— In this paper, the axial-mode performance features of a non-uniform helix, whose non-uniformity is defined by a logarithmic variation of turns spacing along its axis, is presented. Using the classical vector potential approach, the paper rigorously formulates radiation-zone field integrals for the antenna in terms of an unknown distribution of current. Because the formulation derives from a comprehensive analytical description of this ‘log-helix’ antenna’s geometry, the unknown current distribution is readily determined with the use of the circuitgeometric properties of the Method of Moments (MoM). Subsequently, computational results reveal that as obtained with other non-uniform helical antennas the ‘log-helix’ antenna performs significantly better than the corresponding uniform helical antenna of identical axial length. As examples, a 39% increase in power gain was recorded for the log-helix over the corresponding uniform helix; whilst a 25% improvement in radiation field’s axial ratio was achieved. In addition to far-zone fields and their associated performance metrics, antenna input parameters are also computed and discussed in details in this paper. Outcomes of a comparison of the performance of the log-helix with that of an exponential helix of about the same axial profile suggest that whereas the latter has a better power gain performance, the former is superior in terms of axial ratio bandwidth performance.

This paper presents the design of a solar-powered water pumping system that would be used for irrigation in Sukkur, Pakistan. A dependable model of the pumping system as well as the solar system is designed in PVsyst and HOMER softwares to establish the practical and economic viability of solar-powered water pumping system at the site. The proposed system consists of a submersible centrifugal multistage deep well pump and sixty 480 W solar modules. For the purpose of evaluating the backup system’s viability, a battery backup system is also connected to the system. The obtained results show that the proposed solar-powered water pumping system is a potential candidate and a viable option for employment at the selected site and at other sites that have the same conditions for water pumping and irrigation. Moreover, when compared to the cost of using nonrenewable resources, operating and maintenance costs for renewable energy systems are more manageable.
