Transition to a low carbon emission transport is supported in all European countries, including Latvia. In this paper, a specific case of converting diesel bus into electric bus is analyzed. this paper presents analysis of voltage active balancing method for energy storage system (ESS). It is studied power resonant DC-DC converter with voltage doubler synchronous rectifier (VDSR), used to equalize the voltage across series connected supercapacitor cells, which are part from ESS. In this application, high frequency transformer is used for galvanic isolation. The proposed converter ensures turn the primary side power MOSFET on in both zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and zero–current switching (ZCS) modes and turns it off in ZVS mode. This will reduce the switching losses and improve the converter efficiency. The secondary side implemented VDSR is soft switched on and off (ZCS mode). Any known voltage balancing methods could be used to drive this resonant converter. For verification the simulations results, experimental research was done.

In this paper is proposed neural control of a two-link planar robot. The control system contains one feedforward neural network used as both neural model and neural controller. Neural network on-line learning process, based on gradient descent rule and error backpropagation is used. Accomplished simulation research confirms sufficient system performance at load variation.

The permanent-split capacitor motor is well known for its good power factor, due to the permanently connected capacitor, and low starting torque. Therefore, this paper sets an extensive analysis of the impact of the capacitor size on motor starting and running characteristics. A model of the motor suitable for computer design is set, based on producer’s data. For various capacitors, all motor parameters and characteristics are calculated. The capacitor size affects the starting torque i.e. the bigger capacitor, the higher the motor starting torque. FEM is applied for computing flux density distribution and motor torque for all motor models. Adequate conclusions from obtained results of all models have been derived.

The analysis of the interruptions in a section of the power distribution network of medium voltage 20 kV - "Okolite" power line is given in the report. In 2017, new equipment was installed on the power line to locate the damaged sections more quickly and to switch them off. A classification of the reasons for the power line offs has been made before and after the modernization. The average duration of interruptions is determined. The SAIFI and SAIDI electricity continuity indicators for the period from 2012 to 2018 are determined.

The article presents the design of the hydraulic circuit diagram, synthesis of the main hydraulic parameters and equipment of experimental setup for studying of an electronically controlled closed-loop electrohydraulic system based on variable displacement axial-piston pump. The setup allows for experimental work with various pressure loads of different types of executive device: hydraulic cylinders or hydraulic motors. The equipment of the experimental system with an external control electronics provides the possibilities to carry out study not only by changing the hydraulic parameters, but also by changing of the parameters in the embedded control system.

The paper presents a study of two piezoelectric spring harvesters conducted with the aim to determine the optimal construction for which better electrical characteristics are obtained. The harvesters under consideration consist of springs and concentrated masses, attached to piezoelectric transformers. Modeling by ANSYS has been performed, whereas the horizontal deviation of the mechanical system has been obtained and the charge, accumulated on the electrodes of the piezoelectric plates has been calculated. Experimental tests for validating the developed model have been carried out.
