A green roof is formed by waterproof substrate covered with vegetation. It is capable of absorbing water and adding hydrogels may increase its water absorption. The objective of this study is to utilize hydrogel in extensive green roof as an aid in water retention in urban areas. There are four green roof models: Panel 1 has 0% of hydrogels, Panel 2 has 0.40% of hydrogels, Panel 3 has 0.50% of hydrogels and Panel 4 has 0.60% of hydrogels. Each green roof model undergo series of test through the rain simulator with rain gauge at the center of the panel to determine the rainfall intensity. Other than the percentage of hydrogel;; rainfall intensity, duration of rain event and moisture content of the substrate before testing are the factors that affect the water retention in the green roof. This study shows that the green roof with hydrogel has greater water retention than the green roof without hydrogel. It is determined that the hydrogels can absorb approximately 330 times more than its own weight in a day and 37.048 seconds shows the most probable value of water run--off that may occur in the rain event based from the data collected in this study. It was concluded that the maximum value of water that the soil can absorb is entirely dependent on the time the water system was used. The result of the data analysis shows that each of the independent variable has a positive correlation to the dependent variable which is the volume of the water retained in the substrate.

Each year, the amount of agricultural wastes is growing faster than the rate of urbanization in the country. People from different parts of the country and the world are mostly unaware on how to utilize these wastes and recycle them into useful and sustainable materials. One of the approaches in reusing these agricultural wastes is to utilize them as a substitute for wood in the fabrication of panel products. Cement-- bonded boards, for instance, is one of those restoration inventions of the 20th century which can be an alternative to timber products in constructing internal and external walls, partitions, ceilings, roof sheathing, to name a few. This research aimed to contribute to these small but growing empirical literatures and studies on particleboard technology by to utilizing agricultural wastes such as bamboo and coconut coir fibers in the production of cement--bonded particleboards. Using an experimental research design, the researchers produced three experimental samples with three different fiber -- cement ratios. These samples underwent several tests that determined their physical and mechanical properties. Based on the results, it was found out that the sample boards with 3.2% fiber obtained the highest strength of 5.31 MPa, which was higher than the standard strength for particle boards. It also passed the nail head pull through test and obtained an optimum result of 223.88 kg. Furthermore, it also exhibited 1.03% thickness swelling and 8.58% water absorption which was way better compared to commercially available particle boards.

Campus Organization Advisers play a vital role in the success of any student organizations. They are considered as motivational factors as they lead their organizations into the right track of student leadership. They can even break or make the whole performance of the student organization. In the Philippines, there is no existing relevant guidelines, many Campus Organization Advisers from different HEIs are confused on how they will do their role as Campus Student Organization Advisers. This study will help Campus Organization Advisers to be more effective and efficient by producing institutionalized principles and guidelines that are acceptable to the majority to the HEIs. In addition, the study will primarily focus on helping the Campus Organization Advisers understand their roles and responsibilities by coming up with suitable guidelines about Campus Advising. It targets majority of the Campus Advisers from the National Capital Region, from private and public universities and colleges. Still, some of the Campus Organization Advisers from different provinces will be the major respondents in order to have a comparative perspective on the set--up of Campus Advising in NCR and from provinces. Furthermore, this study will present different challenges and concerns facing all Campus Advisers in performing their responsibilities. Campus Advisers are confused on how they will perform their responsibilities as Advisers. It is also good to note that in the Philippines, private and public HEIs have different set--up in regards with Campus Organization Advising. While there are challenges, this study will also present the best practices on Campus Advising from different private and public HEIs in the National Capital Region and nearby provinces. To have a sustainable guidelines, it also best to benchmark from different national organizations focusing on developing the skills of Campus Organization Advisers. It plays an important role in having a different perspective about the major focus of the study. This action research will gather data based from the interview to some of the Student Leaders, Campus Organization Advisers, Student Affairs Practitioners and even the administrators from private and public universities and colleges in NCR and nearby provinces to know how Campus Organization Advisers failed or become productive and successful.

This paper investigated the photocatalytic degradation of Chloramphenicol using hydroxyapatite derived from eggshells via microwave--assisted synthesis. The photocatalytic degradation of Chloramphenicol was conducted under different parameters such as varying irradiation time for catalyst (10, 20 and 30 minutes), catalyst loading (0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 mg), and time exposure (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 hours). Chicken and duck eggshells are composed of calcium carbonate that is synthesized into hydroxyapatite by mixing with diammonium phosphate, (NH4)2HPO4, under microwave irradiation. Characterizations confirmed that the properties of the synthesized product are in line with the properties that is generally known as HA, in accordance to the data of characterizing the said catalyst presented from other studies. Also, the comparison of the different parameters of photocatalytic degradation showed the use of initial pollutant concentration of 25 mg/L with a catalyst loading of 0.8 mg HA with irradiation time 20 minutes in microwave under UV lights for 2.5 hours gave the most promising result, giving a percent degradation of Chloramphenicol approximately 80.92%. Overall, this study provided insight on the possible use of a waste material, particularly eggshells, as a source of HA and possibly, a greener way of handling wastewater.

Polyphenols present in Suganda (Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour.) Spreng) extract can reduce the cationic iron to zero valent iron while simultaneously forming nanoparticles. The study involved the phenolic extraction at different solvent concentrations and temperatures. The synthesized Green--Nanoscale Zero Valent Iron (G--nZVI) and Green--Nanoscale Zero Valent Iron -- Copper Bimetal (G--nZVI--Cu) were used to reduce nitrate in water. Scanning Electron Microscopy -- Energy Dispersive X--ray (SEM--EDX) and X--ray Diffraction (XRD) are used to characterize the particles. It was found out that at 35°C and 90% ethanol, the highest phenolic content was obtained. The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) results showed that the effect of temperature and solvent concentration is significant on the phenolic extraction with a probability value of < 0.0001. The SEM analysis showed that the particles have sizes ranging from 100-- 150 nm. The EDX analysis showed higher amounts of oxygen ranging from 50--60%, iron having 40--50% weight and copper with nearly 4--5% weight. The green synthesized particles are amorphous in structure, with no clear peak at 2θ = 45°. The synthesized particles were successfully used to reduce nitrate in water. Analysis showed that significant amount of nitrate was reduced after 60 minutes, having a removal efficiency of 84.36% and 85.81% for G--nZVI and G--nZVI--Cu, respectively. It was found out that ammonium and nitrogen gas were the main products of the reaction. The results show that G--nZVI and G--nZVI--Cu can be used for the remediation of nitrate in water due to its high removal efficiency.

DISPOSABLE DIAPER RECYCLING TRIAL IN FURANO, HOKKAIDO, JAPAN

The population in Japan peaked around 2010;; however, the population has since begun to shrink. The average lifetimes of males and females in Japan are 81 and 87 years, respectively. Long lifetimes and low birth rates have transformed Japan into a “super--aging society”. The amount of discarded disposable diapers is increasing globally as well as in Japan, and the final processing stage in majority of these cases is incineration or landfill. However, there are two recycling systems in Japan, including material recycling and thermal recycling. In material recycling, the high--quality pulp recycled from waste diapers is converted into material for newly reproduced diaper (in trial) or wall board, the low--quality pulp and sludge are converted into a soil enhancement additive, and the plastic is converted into refuse--derived plastic fuel (RPF) using a water--based system. In thermal recycling, recycled fuel is used for heating source for public bath. This increasing trend of waste diaper is also observed on a local level, such as in the city of Furano, Hokkaido, Japan, where they are sent to an incinerator. Furano has attempted to thermally recycle hygiene waste, including disposable diaper and pet litter, for a year. This thermal recycle is analyzed, and this recycle can save CO2 emission in comparison with the conventional processing (incineration and landfill). A combination of thermal recycling and refuse--derived fuel (RDF), which is conducting there, is considered to be viable for handling disposable diapers in Furano.

Students’ language and communication skills and leadership abilities in today’s times are focused on strengths management. Life Dynamics begins by identifying the individual’s basic orientation to life, or personal style. Based on this foundation of self-- knowledge, powerful strategies are manifested and these enable individuals and groups to work more effectively together as they achieve better results in teams. Graduating students of liberal arts and education of Jose Rizal University are encouraged to maximize their potentials by use of their soft--skills. Graduating students of Jose Rizal University are given a series of context specific surveys in language and communication. The surveys measure behavioral style preferences as it is essential to establish context. As the graduating students manage their communication skills, they become aware of their preferences in managing their strengths as they begin to implement the developmental strategies that will have an immediate impact on productivity. In coordination with the Student Development Office (SDO) and the College of Liberal Arts, Criminology, and Education (CLACE) of Jose Rizal University, Life Dynamics resulted to learning activities that are carefully sequenced so that graduating students can build confidence in acquiring relevant language and communication skills, leadership, perspective, and insights. The program termed as ASCEND (Achieving Excellent English, Self--Awareness for Behavioral Management, Communicative Competence for Professional Purposes, Enhancing People’s Capacity, Nature of Communication, Discipline of Communication) yields enormous productivity improvements that can be realized using common language to communicate, thus enhancing productivity among graduating students of Jose Rizal University to develop soft skills for campus sustainability.
这个名为ASCEND(实现优秀英语,行为管理的自我意识,专业目的的沟通能力,增强人的能力,沟通的性质,沟通的学科)的项目产生了巨大的生产力提高,可以实现使用共同语言进行沟通,从而提高何塞·黎萨大学毕业生的生产力,培养校园可持续发展的软技能。
