The NASA/NOAA Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) day/night band (DNB) has a capability to detect lighting present at the earth’s surface. This low-light imaging capability was built to satisfy a requirement from meteorologists to detect clouds at night in the visible based on reflected moonlight. On land, human settlements are the dominant source of DNB detected surface lighting. Lights are also detected offshore primarily arising from fishing boats using lights to attract catch. In 2015, the Earth Observation Group developed the VIIRS Boat Detection (VBD) product and today several fishery agencies use VBD data to monitor fishing activity and compliance with closures. Recently EOG compiled the full record VBD detections as a 15 arc second global grid. The record spans 2012-2021 in Asia and 2017-2021 elsewhere. Upon reviewing the multiyear accumulation of VBD detections we were surprised to find a diversity of previously unseen lighting features [1]. These structures are not evident in VBD from single nights but are only revealed by accumulating the detections across a year or more. The additional features include lit platforms, transit lanes, and vessel anchorages associated with ports and passage straits. Another surprising finding is geopolitical divisions in the density of cumulative vessel detections. In this paper we provide a look into one of the densest areas of VBD detections in the world, from the Yellow Sea, East China Sea and Sea of Japan (East Sea).

Declining marine fish stocks have severe effects on the livelihoods of small-scale coastal fishing communities. As a result, the development of additional livelihoods in oyster production has become appropriate as a way of improving incomes and nutrition, reducing hunger, and creating employment among women. Oysters are rich in essential vitamins and minerals such as protein, omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, zinc, iron, and vitamins B and E, and pose no risk to human cholesterol levels. The objective of this study is to examine Crassostrea tulipa harvesting in Ghana by women and its contribution to food security and nutrition. Data was collected from Bortianor, Tetegu, Tsokome, and Faana communities along the Densu Delta in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana using the Kobo Toolbox. A total of a hundred (100) harvesters were sampled for the study.

It is important to compare the flora of different parts of the world which have the various environmental condition. The flora of Taleghan dam and River was identified from November 2017 to October 2018 and the result is compared with 15 regions of recent studies in different continents. The flora of Africa with 66 percent common taxa was the highest similar to our study. Based on the comparison the Ulnaria ulna ( Nitzsch) Compère, Navicula cryptotenella Lange-Bertalot Gomphonema acuminatum Ehrenberg and Nitzschia palea (Kü tzing) W Smith was the cosmopolitan species and Achnanthidium eutrophilum (Lange-Bertalot) Lange-Bertalot , Frustulia tugelae Cholnoky , Nitzschia acula (Kützing) Kü tzing in Rabenhors, and some other species were rare taxon. 45 out of 203 diagnosed species and genus Seminavis D.G.Mann is new record for diatoms flora of Iran. Also, the species Cymbella pernodensis Maillard , Cymbella novazeelandiana Krammer and Achnanthidium druartii Rimet & Couté were new records for Asia.

To evaluate the establishment of the emerged species Lepomis gibbosus (Linnaeus, 1758) in the international section of the Minho River (Iberian Peninsula) the abundance was analysed for 7 years. This study also describes the world’s first record of parasitism between the leech Myzobdella lugubris Leidy, 1851 and L. gibbosus. The earliest record of species L. gibbosus , also known as pumpkinseed sunfish, was in the Spanish area of the Minho River basin, in the beginning of the 2000s. It is considered an established species in the estuary, due to its ecological release capacity, which has been increasing over the last few years. Physical condition, age, feeding patterns, and reproduction habits were analysed from July 2014 to October 2015. Individuals sampled appear in a good physical condition (b>3). The oldest individual captured was 4 years old, with L max =18.6cm. Females have a higher gonadosomatic investment than males (F 1;585 =150.43, p<0.01), particularly in July (F=7.39%; M=1.4%), which comply with the values of the hepatosomatic index (F 2;300 =34.23, p<0.01). Breeding season occurs between July/August and sexual maturity is reached at age of 1. Regarding the feeding regime, 18 taxa were identified from gut content. In the first year of life, the pumpkinseed has a preference for insects and crustaceans. In adult age, gastropods are the preference, which can cause trophic competition with native species. Therefore, monitoring studies should continue to follow the population dynamics.

This study initiates a significant application of a spatially and temporally integrated management tool for fishery stock assessment. The Mass Conservation Model (MCM), a simple model formulated with the capability to generate new indices of biomass analysis solely from catch data, was used to analyze abundance, composition, and movement of stock in central Philippine waters. MCM demonstrates that, given only sufficient spatial and temporal catch data, indications of biomass movements, abundance, and stock composition can be obtained. However, because the model uses only the catch data, the analysis is dependent on reliable sampling and the accuracy of the input data. Therefore, it is recommended that agency personnel tasked to collect, process, and analyze catch data including their enumerators must train properly in scientific methods and the marine sciences.

This work is devoted to the study of the features of biogenic migration of natural radionuclides in the conditions of Lake Issyk-Kul located in the north-eastern part of Kyrgyzstan. Lake Issyk-Kul is a high-mountainous, thermal, drain less reservoir with brackish water with a high content of natural uranium. This is due to climatic conditions, the geological structure of river valleys, and the peculiarities of the composition of river waters capable of extracting uranium from rocks. Calculations using the Erica tool 1.3 software showed that the natural uranium content in the water of Lake Issyk-Kul (0.809 Bq/l) is safe for living organisms of the aquatic ecosystem, the level of absorbed dose, accumulation and risk factors vary within the normal range. According to the Erica tool 1.3 database, low radiation doses (0-50 μ Gy/h) can stimulate the growth of aquatic plants. The species composition of the ichthyofauna of Lake Issyk-Kul consists of 22 species of fish, including 12 aboriginal and 10 acclimatized. The content of natural radionuclides ( 226 Ra, 228 Th and 212 Pb) in the bone and muscle tissue of some fish species of Lake Issyk-Kul was investigated. It has been established that radionuclides are predominantly found in bone tissue in comparison with muscles, their concentrations vary within the limits of natural parameters.
