The ecology of a hypersaline ciliate, Fabrea salina was studied in two saltpans along the Mumbai coast, India. There was an apparent trend of its seasonal abundance being maximum (up to 58 x 10 3 cells L -1 in May) during late post- monsoon to summer months and complete disap-pearance during monsoon period. Being the most dominant species in microzooplankton community, it had an average annual density of 18 x 10 3 cells L -1 . It flourishes well under higher temperature (30-39 ºC) and salinity (40-150 ‰) conditions. Among phytoplankton, Dunaliella was the dominant one with a highest density of 58 x 10 3 cells mL -1 in April, followed by Chlorella with up to 42 x 10 3 cells mL -1 , in March. The ANOVA test for physical and chemical variables has revealed significant difference (P=0.05) in their values in different months. Except in water temperature and NO 2 -N, no significant difference was observed at various stations as the case with phytoplankton and zooplankton. There was strong positive correlation of Fabrea with water temperature (r=0.866, 0.801), salinity (r=0.966, 0.957), total alkalinity (r=0.717, 0.729) and PO 4 -P (r=0.750, 0.897) while negative correlation with water depth (r=-0.767, -0.757) and pH (r=-0.086, -0.411). Fabrea varies widely in its total length (60-600 µm) and cyst diameter (70-180 µm). The average length of body cilia is 12 µm and the width of each adoral zone of membranelle (AZM) is 10 µm.

The objective of the present study being to study the biology and the exploitation of the sardine Sardina pilchardus fished at the level of the region of Agadir. The study of biology was approached by analyzing the growth and reproduction of the species. The study showed the importance of the landings of sardine (fish of great commercial value). Knowledge of these parameters is essential for a good analysis of population dynamics and for rational and sustainable management of these stocks. The growth study has shown that sardines are fast growing and have a short shelf life. Differential growth between males and females has been observed. The study of the linear growth of combined sex sardines and the model of Von Bertalanffy, revealed that: the growth coefficient „‘k’ ‘is 0.311. The asymptotic length L ∞ is 226.402 mm. Sardines are multiple spawners that spawn several times during the same breeding season. It is noted that the sex ratio is in favor of the males and it seems that the sexual cycle, the size and the geographical distribution are the essential factors which control the variations of the sex ratio in sardines. The large individuals are generally females and the size at first sexual maturity in sardine females has been estimated at L50 = 131.33 mm in total length. Kewords:

Numerical weather prediction (NWP) relies on the integrations of an appropriate and relevant formulation of fluiddynamics equations of the ‘system’ starting from initial states determined by merging most recently available observations with short-range forecasts, issued from most recent forecasts. For example, the European Centre for Medium-Ranger Weather (ECMWF) forecast that started at 12 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) of 14 May 2017, used as initial conditions the state of the system at 12 UTC, estimated by merging observations collected between in the hours before 12 UTC and a 12-hour forecast that started at 00 UTC.

Seahorses (Syngnathidae: Hippocampus) are globally endangered species [1], where they are targets of the trade for ornamental fish, traditional medicine, handicrafts, charms and others [2]. Of course, they are prey for several animals, including other fish, where they are regular or occasional food for some species, which can be verified by the analysis of stomach contents [3,4]. Seahorses compose the bycatch of fisheries with gillnets and mainly trawls but they can be caught indirectly when they are eaten by other fish that are targets of the most varied fishing gear [5-8]. Of the various methods of fishing with hooks, mode “pargueira” is used to catch bottom fishes, which live on rocky, gravel or coral substrates, such as grouper (Epinephelinae), while mode “corrico” is done with baited fishing lines in a moving boat and is intended for the capture of sea bass (Centropomidae) and mackerel (Scombridae), among others [9,10]. We report here, these two types of fishing, whose target fish had ingested seahorses.

The common spiny lobster (Palinurus elephas, Fabricius, 1787) is an iconic species of the Mediterranean Sea. Despite the existence of data on the artisanal fishery of P. elephas in the Mediterranean Sea and particularly in Corsica, knowledge on the biology and life history traits of this iconic species is still lacking. This paper identifies the main gaps in current knowledge and suggests future directions of research to answer these fundamental questions, which are currently unanswered.

In the context of global warming, the expansion of seawater, the melting of terrestrial glacier and other factors have led to an increase in seawater quality and volume, causing global sea level rise, which is an important indicator of climate change, as well as a hot spot for climate change research. According to the IPCC Assessment Report [1,2], the sea level rise shows the transition from a relatively low average rate in the past two thousand years very likely that the global average sea level rise continues to accelerate since the early 20th century. In addition, since the early 1970s, 75% of the observed global mean sea level rise can be explained by ocean thermal expansion due to climate warming and loss of glacier ice.

Sustainable systems of marine ecology and society should be constructed by basing on a bottom-line approach1. The sustainable systems should enhance communication and cooperation with various stakeholders and perform risk management of marine ecology effectively. The systems aim to conserve diversity of species and prevent destructive changes in ocean environment provocatively. In this essay we explore that the digital revolution partially contributes the construction of sustainable social scheme in marine environments.

Length-weight relationships are fundamental information to understanding the biological parameters of fishes for fisheries management, fish stock assessment, determination of biomass using measured weights, comparison of life cycle characteristic of fish populations from different regions, and estimation of weight ranges from length ranges [1-4]. This research prepares length-weight relationships for eight fish species in Chabahr fishing grounds located in the Sea of Oman.
