End-of-Life care: advanced care planning, euthanasia and suicide
Pub Date : 2019-03-15 DOI: 10.14746/h.2019.1.6
L. Rosenfeld
End-of-life planning for elderly people provides a necessary condition for a respectable and decent aging and death, which meets the wishes and expectations of the elderly person. Nevertheless, decision-making in this respect is based on the values and experience of formal and informal caregivers that are often ignorant of the wishes of the elderly. Respectively, the elderly person’s wish to end life should be viewed as a call for help and distress, as the phenomenon becomes more frequent. Elderly people do not really wish to die. Rather, they fear end-of-life treatments that are performed against their wish and beyond their control in a humiliating and painful manner, and without truly offering benefit to their lives. Consequently, elderly people see death as a relief from pain and a promise for peace. Moreover, choosing death over life, provides the elderly person with a renewed sense of control. Thus, the Western society pushes the elderly person to prefer euthanasia or suicide over a life of dependence, humiliation and pain.

The evolution of feminist literature in the Arab world
Pub Date : 1900-01-01 DOI: 10.14746/h.2019.1.3
Gaida Khatib
In this article, we try to discuss the concept of the term “feminine literature” and the problems related to that in both Western and Arab worlds, with a historical overview of the evolution of Arab feminist literature from the pre-Islamic era to the present day. Besides that, we will relate to the difference between the writing of man and woman, as woman was distinguished by her own style as well as the issues she raises. However, despite the efforts, there has been a clear marginalization of woman’s writing, and there was no clear definition of the term.

Esoterism belongs to those phenomena present for a long time in culture which caused and still cause certain interest, as well different kinds of reservations and raise certain questions. The main issue is however made here by the fact that it had taken and still takes various forms and it is being perceived and presented differently by both - its followers and its academic researchers. In these remarks I will recall several exatmples of that. Although none of those researchers aren’t willing to marginalize and trivialize the issue they do differ in the judgment of its cultural impact. I’m willing in that matter to share the general thesis by saying that it had played and still does an alternative role to the socially dominant forms of culture.
