The use of practicum equipment for a experiment with a long enough duration will cause the cooling water are used have a high temperature and be ineffective for the heat exchanger cooling process. The purpose of making a Cooling Tower Type Heat Dissipator Model for Heat Exchanger Service Unit H101/08490 PA Hilton Ltd so that the cooling water used to carry out the practicum will be maintained at a temperature of 28 o C-33 o C. Maintaining the stability of the cooling water temperature is expected to produce data that does not vary too much and can be done in a fairly long data collection range. The results of the performance and effectiveness test of Cooling Tower cooling show that the temperature increase is only 4 o C for 3 hours of testing and the cooling effectiveness increases and is relatively constant during the test time. This shows that the cooling system with a Cooling Tower can be used as a supporting medium for heat exchanger practicum in the Mechanical Engineering department.

The potential of natural resources in the form of water energy is a renewable natural resource that is often used because it does not damage the environment and can be used continuously. This water flow has two types, namely laminar flow and turbulent flow, the forces generated from these two flows are also different. Turbulent flow tends to produce a greater force and can lift object masses better than laminar flow. Therefore, a vortex turbine has emerged which utilizes turbulent flow as a waterwheel drive, by directing laminar flow towards the cross section and converting it into turbulent flow by utilizing the force of gravity and The cross-sectional shape forms a whirlpool that can move a waterwheel and turn a turbine. The number of blades is very influential on the performance generated from the vortex turbine and affects the resulting output, be it voltage, current, rotational speed, torque and efficiency. In this study, the best results were shown on blades with a total of 6, at a rotational speed of 141.3 rpm; at the voltage shows the result of 0.28 volts; at current it produces 44 mA; at Torque (Nm) 0.22 Nm; and the efficiency is 76.5%.

Sate is one of the Indonesian specialties whose demand is increasing, so the need for skewers is also getting higher. For this reason, innovation is needed to be able to meet these needs. Because when using skewers in a traditional/manual production method, the quality of the skewers produced is not good and the production capacity is also low. Meanwhile, the existing skewer making machine still has some drawbacks. So in this study, a bamboo cutting machine was designed to increase the production of skewers with innovations to cover the shortcomings of existing machines. In this study, the skewer making machine was designed to have a slicing section, a shavings section (making skewers), and a sharpening section. The skewers produced have a diameter between 2.5 mm to 3 mm and a length of 210 mm with a production capacity of 3000 skewers per hour.

Indonesia was one of the exporting countries of betel nut, lately the selling price of betel nut has increased. Betel nut that has a high selling price, was an old betel nut that has been dried. Various forms of betel nut that were sold in the market include whole betel nut, split betel nut and sliced betel nut. The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of the spin speed of the peeling mechanism on the timing and peeling result, and to find out the best interaction between the spin speed and the number of peeling rods that able to producing the best peeling efficiency. The method used in the study was a randomized design experiment consisting of two factors: spin speed (1000 rpm, 1200 rpm, 1400 rpm, 1600 rpm) and the number of peeling rods (12, 18 and 24) with 12 testing interactions. The main parameter observed was the percentage of peeled fruit with whole condition. The performance test result proved that the increase of the spin speed peeling mechanism has an effect on the efficiency of time, when the speed spin of the peeling mechanism increases, the time it takes to peel the dried betel nut was decreases. But this condition was not directly proportional to the increasing percentage of dried betel nut that was whole peeled. The best peeling interaction was at a speed of 1400 rpm, with 18 peeling rods. This interaction produced peeling efficiency, 88% of whole peeled fruit, 12% of split peeled fruit and 0% of the unpeeled fruit.

The pyrolysis reactor is a tool that functions to decompose organic compounds from biomass materials which is carried out by a heating process without or little air with temperatures ranging from 300-600°C. The results obtained from the pyrolysis reactor process are charcoal and liquid smoke. The existing air will accelerate the process of biomass oxidation, but if there is excess air it will cause combustion of the biomass so that most of it will be oxidized and decomposed into smoke and this will cause less charcoal yield. However, without air, the pyrolysis process will take longer. Therefore, an ideal air requirement is needed so that the effectiveness of this biomass pyrolysis process can be maintained because it will produce optimal charcoal and liquid smoke. The purpose of this research is to find out how many air pipes for the pyrolysis reactor are needed in this combustion process and how long the time and temperature of the pyrolysis process combustion and how much charcoal and liquid smoke are obtained. This research was conducted at the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of the University of Muhammadiyah Metro, this study used a pyrolysis reactor with a diameter of 40 cm, height 50 cm, air pipe diameter inch with variations in the number of 1,3 and 5. Using 8 kg of corncob biomass. Straight pipe condenser with 12 mm diameter copper material 3 m long, outer pipe diameter 4 inch. The results showed that the highest pyrolysis temperature in air pipe 5 was 485°C with a pyrolysis process time of 120 minutes and the lowest temperature in pipe 1 was 353°C with a pyrolysis process time of 185 minutes. The results of the most liquid smoke in air pipe 5 are 0.5 liters or 6.25% and the least liquid smoke results are in air pipes 1 as much as 0.32 liters or 4.0% For the highest charcoal yields in air pipes 1 weighing 4 kg or 50% and for charcoal yields at least on air pipe 5 of 3.2 kg or 42.5%. The highest pH level in the air pipe 1 is 3.43 and the lowest level in the air pipe is 3.11.

This study analyzes the effect of ambient temperature on spray characteristics including spray tip penetration, spray angle and velocity of spray. The research method uses an experimental method with ambient temperature variations of 60 o C, 80 o C, 100 o C controlled using a thermocouple and an ambient pressure of 0.3 MPa. the composition of the fuel uses diesel (diesel 100%), B30 (30% biodiesel), B100 (100% biodiesel). Image recording using camera speed 480 fms. Based on the experimental results, the ambient temperature increases the spray angle and B100 at all ambient temperatures has a spray tip penetration, velocity of spray is lower.

DSSC (Dye Sensitized Solar Cell) uses dye as a sensitizer material which is used as an electron donor to TiO2 nanoparticles and uses an electrolyte as an electron transport medium. One of the dye extracts of purple spinach and moringa leaves used as a photosensitizer is chlorophyll extract or anthocyanin. The nature of chlorophyll which is able to absorb light is a function of the dye in DSSC. Making Moringa leaf and red spinach leaf dye after being blended, dried and ground into powder. Then the Moringa leaf powder was mixed with 70% ethanol with the ratio of Moringa leaves and ethanol, namely 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4. Meanwhile, red spinach leaf powder was mixed with ethanol solution in a ratio of 1:3. DSSC fabrication shows that the voltage, current, and power produced increases with the increasing amount of ethanol used, namely 1.879 mW, 1.573 mW, and 1.98 mW. Meanwhile, red spinach leaves mixed with ethanol in a ratio of 1:3 showed that the results were higher than Moringa leaves. So from the results of DSSC Solar Cell fabrication using Moringa leaves and red spinach leaves, it shows that there is light absorption from these materials and an increase in the conductive properties of Moringa and red spinach DSSCs.

One of the dye extracts of purple spinach and moringa leaves used as a photosensitizer is chlorophyll extract or anthocyanin. The nature of chlorophyll which is able to absorb light is a function of the dye in DSSC. Making Moringa leaf and red spinach leaf dye after being blended, dried and ground into powder. Then the Moringa leaf powder was mixed with 70% ethanol with the ratio of Moringa leaves and ethanol, namely 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4. Meanwhile, red spinach leaf powder was mixed with ethanol solution in a ratio of 1:3. DSSC fabrication shows that the voltage, current, and power produced increases with the increasing amount of ethanol used, namely 1.879 mW, 1.573 mW, and 1.98 mW. Meanwhile, red spinach leaves mixed with ethanol in a ratio of 1:3 showed that the results were higher than Moringa leaves. Rice quaker is a traditional culinary still made manually. Efforts to improve the rice quaker production process have been carried out by build a prototype of rice quaker flattening machine. The machine has a weakness because it is not equipped with a rationing system that can adjust the flattening capacity. Based on these problems, further research was carried out with designing and testing the rationing system on the rice quaker flattening machine. The stages of the research are to design the shape, create a rationing system, conduct testing and analyze the results. The independent variables of the study were the number of spaces and the rotational speed of the rationer. The independent variables of the study were the capacity and level of material damage. The rationing system has dimensions of 30 cm x 20 cm x 95.5 cm, weight 12 kg, use pulley and belt transmission system, with a 24V 120 Watt DC motor drive system. The test results at the rotation speed 50-300 rpm did not find any damage to the test material. The damage was found when the rotational speed reached 350 rpm. The rationing system prioritizes the stability of the output material over the capacity. Based on the test results, the recommended rotational speed of the rationing system is 200-300 rpm with the recommended number of rationing chambers of 10. At this recommendation value, the capacity obtained is 83,61 – 92,83 kg/hour.
