The study reveals the historical changes in the semantics of the verbs облагати / обложити and their derivates облогъ, обложениѥ, обложник. Material from lexicographical works, electronic corpora of medieval texts, manuscripts is used. The obtained data have been structured in view of the semantic changes that have occurred. Some interesting cases of homonymy are traced. Errors in existing dictionaries are also analyzed. Conclusions are drawn about the main changes in the semantics of Old Bulgarian verbs and their derivatives in the millennial development of the Bulgarian language. Attention is paid to cases of changes in semantics imposed by the terminology of words.

The article summarizes the known so far scholarly facts and focuses on the problematic research fields in the study of one of the most significant translations of the South Slavonic Middle Ages, such as that of Dogmatic Panoply by Euthymios Zigabenos. The Slavonic translation of the Second Book appeared on Mount Athos at the very beginning of the 15th century, and was associated with the activities of South Slavic monks-literati who maintained links with Greek scribes. The Athonite monasticism acted as main engine for this translation in the context of the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans, when the Orthodox literary legacy was the mainstay of identity.

The topic of historical anthroponymy is not well developed in Bulgarian onomastics. This applies to the study of historical anthroponymy of individual settlements, regions, districts, in a synchronic and diachronic plan. And it is important, especially when it comes to historical anthroponymy from areas that remained outside the territory of today’s Bulgaria. The anthroponymy from the 16th and the beginning of the 20th centuries from the old Bulgarian settlement of Kobalishta, Drama region, was examined, and a comparison was made. The trends in the development of the anthroponymic system of the village of Kobalishta have been traced for a period of over three centuries.

Thе paper deals with adjective stable comparisons in Bulgarian and Russian. The material is studied in comparative terms. In addition to studying already established and recorded comparisons in dictionaries, this study includes corpus material and electronic sources of a highly conversational nature, thus more fully demonstrating the dynamics in the system of the stable comparisons. The material is organized as equivalent pairs, the relation of non-equivalence is also noted.

The Church Slavonic translation of The Letter to Marcellinus on the Interpretation of the Psalms (Еἰς τὴν ἑρμενείαν τῶν ѱαλμῶν) is published in the Russian Bible of 1663, placed before the Psalter just as in the famous 5th centuries Greek Codex Alexandrinos. Athanasius of Alexandria’s allegorical exegesis of interpreting the Scripture in the text macrostructures called Приточное богословие (The theology of parables) is investigated in this article based on some selected dogmatic and pastoral writings. The criterion for the correctness of the interpretation is formulated in the polemical Orations against the Arians. The polemical Sermon against all heresies is built on wordy allegories that have semantic and lexical parallels in the Orations. In the pastoral Letter to Marcellinos the technique of building allegories has changed according to the postulate of the selfsufficiency of the Holy Script without permission to change the words. The Preslav men of letters consciously chose the “spiritual” free translation and expand the grammatical exegesis with the means of the Old Bulgarian language. Using the term Приточное богословие for allegorical exegesis, they emphasize the need for allegories to clarify the hidden meaning in the quoted text. The Church Slavonic translation of the Letter to Marcellinus in the printed Russian Bible of the year 1663 contains some archaic forms which testify to the existence of a previous history of the text.

The article aims at describing a specific variety of perception predicates, namely active perception predicates. Active are considered those predicates in which the perceiving subject voluntarily directs his attention or sense organs to the object of perception. The differences between the analyzed predicates and the other subclasses of perception verbs are investigated, their semantic scope is described. Active perception predicates are categorized into subtypes. Their frame elements are examined with their definitions, semantic restrictions and possible syntactic realizations.

The paper is an overview of the history of the Slavic studies in the University of Lodz since 1945, with an emphasis on the teaching of Bulgarian language, literature and culture after 1995, when the Department of the History of the Polish Language created a Slavic Studies Unit with a Bulgarian profile. The main lecture courses, the directions of the research activity, the successes of the researchers, as well as difficulties accompanying teaching and research in the field of Bulgarian studies are presented.

The article focuses on phenomena of cross-lingual comprehension mediated by a bridge language. In a web-based experiment, German speaking subjects – without any previous knowledge of Bulgarian – translate written Bulgarian stimuli relying on some knowledge of Russian. We investigate the importance of the selected individual and linguistic factors for success in mediated receptive multilingualism. Proficiency in reading in Russian and orthographic distance between Russian and Bulgarian cognates are the most important predictors.

The article examines the vocabulary related to the coronavirus pandemic, in view of innovative trends in Bulgarian grammar and in view of (non)deviations from spelling rules. The conclusions were drawn based on the analysis of examples from 38 regulatory documents (orders, instructions, reports), 107 excerpted word combinations of invariable adjectives and nouns, and 20 other language units from the media discourse. The emphasis of the study is on the analysis of the semantic-structural and spelling features of the appositive word combinations of invariable COVID adjectives and variable nouns. Other COVID names related to the appearance of new biaspectual verbs, verbal nouns and the high frequency (frequency of use) of substantivized participles and nouns are also analyzed.

The studia presents the results of the de visu study on the Odesa Modern Bulgarian Damaskins. The manucripts are part of a collection of manuscripts by gathered the Slavic Viktor Grigorovich. The present work aims to present and analyze all the inscriptions, notes and glosses found in the Damaskines collections, some of which are being published for the first time. Of particular interest are the primary attributions. The results of the research will enrich the knowledge of Bulgarian linguistic, literary, cultural and church history during the period.
