The measurement of wear in the liners of SAG mills is performed with the machine stopped and entering inside in a short available stopping time. Thus, the height estimation of liners will save time and costs when liners are changed. This paper proposes an estimator of liners height in SAG mills from three-stage process data using Machine Learning algorithms for supervised learning. Two models of estimation were proposed and trained based on the information acquired and processed by the SCADA system of the process.

Reactive power is often an issue of concern for the operation of alternating current (AC) electrical power systems. This work aims to apply a model-based predictive control (MPC) to an indirect matrix converter (IMC) to improve the power factor at the input of a converter whilst still having full control of the output current or voltage. Simulation results from a Matlab/Simulink model are presented. The objective is to compare the control performance of the IMC without input reactive power control and with reactive power minimization.

Piura is an agricultural region, and therefore, crop production is one of the primary sources of income. Competition in this sector has been growing in recent years, and Piura cannot be left behind. Due to factors such as diseases, pest attacks, and sudden changes in climatic conditions, the level of crop production decreases. Automatic recognition of plant diseases is essential to automatically detect disease symptoms as soon as they appear in the growing stage. This paper provides a proposed methodology for the analysis and detection of banana leaf diseases using digital image processing techniques. The results obtained show that the proposed system can successfully detect and classify two major banana leaf diseases: Black Sigatoka (BBS) and Bacterial Wilt (BBW).

This research work consists in to design a system of occupancy simulation in smart homes based on IoT, in order to create configurations within a home that make look like the daily behavior of home inhabitants. Due to the high rate of burglary in uninhabited places, reaching an 9% in average in 2019 in the Chilean case, technologies have been involved with greater emphasis on improving security systems, where the implementation of the Internet of Things will allow rapid action against the intruder detection in those places. The proposed IoT system is based on a motion sensor, actuators as relays and lights, Arduino platform to control system, and a Amazon Echo virtual assistant to interface with inhabitants. The main contribution of this prototype security system is the integration of different IoT (Adafruit, IFTTT) and control platforms (Arduino uno and NodeMCU), virtual assistant (Alexa) and actuators, which has features that can be replicated in larger processes and with a larger number of devices. The results demonstrate that security system create an environment occupied by owners without to be inside home, through sensors and actuators.

The article considers an approach for partial eigenvalue assignment in singular second order systems via proportional controller plus derived control plus output feedback controller. It is shown that the problem is closely related to a so-called second-order Sylvester matrix equation. This study presents an approach to partial the eigenstructure assignment for the descriptor system where an algorithm is presented for calculated the output feedback matrix by Sylvester equation. The paper is proposed two complete parametric methods for an approach to partial eigenstructure assignment problems. Both methods are respectively given simples complete parametric expressions for feedback gains and the closed-loop eigenvector matrices. The first one mainly depends on a series of singular value decompositions. The second one utilizes methodology for the system's factorization and enables the closed-loop eigenvalues to be set undetermined and search via specific optimization procedures. The theorems are presented using the Sylvester equations. Two algorithms are implemented using the Sylvester equation, and examples are presented with their conclusions.

Matrix converter technology have so far been mainly limited to low power applications. Multi-level voltage source converters are often used for high power applications. In order to combine the good characteristics of both topologies this paper presents the principle of operation of multi-modular matrix converters. Among all the proposed control techniques, predictive control has become a viable and highly versatile option due to its ability to cope with different operating requirements. Therefore this paper also proposes a predictive control technique with a fixed switching frequency applied to the multi-modular matrix converter as well as a comparison of the performance between the proposed control and a variable switching frequency counterpart, showing the advantages and disadvantages between the two strategies.

In Peru, the exportation of organic bananas has increased considerably in the last ten years, the arrival of the “boom” of organic bananas is imminent, therefore it is necessary better management of small producers and associations for this organic resource, providing them with new technologies that help them to better organize, develop and monitor production. In the present study, a segmentation algorithm based on k-means has been developed, through which it was possible to group the weekly production of an organic banana packhouse, formulated on its production ratio. This project has been carried out to facilitate the monitoring of the production of each sector of the agricultural cooperative APBOSMAM (Asociación de Productores de Banano Orgánico Sector el Monte y Anexos Mallaritos), which provided production data. In the development of this study, two production ratios have been considered for the analysis: “Plant population per hectare ratio” and “Pre-bagged bunches ratio” by each sector during a week. From formed groups, it has been possible to identify the sectors with the lowest production and the possible factors causing this low contribution at the time of exporting the fruit.

In this work, a code is designed and developed using MATLAB software for thermodynamic and parametric analysis, different technologies for the production of non-centrifuged sugar. Additionally, a methodology is developed to calculate the energy and operation indicators of each of the technologies studied, such as the consumption of bagasse, the temperature in the combustion chamber, etc. With this, a graphical interface (GUI) is developed, which allows the user to enter experimental data and obtain the parameters mentioned above. It is proposed to analyze the influence of some variables on the calculated results, such as temperature, amount of fuel, etc. and finally carry out a comparative analysis of the technologies, to define the best alternative in the production of non-centrifugal sugar.

During the last decade, Engineering programs in Chile have shifted their focus from a traditional content-based education model to a competency-based one. Although this approach has become popular and integrated into engineering programs, its effectiveness has not been fully validated. In particular, currently there are no tools that allow verifying compliance with the competencies declared in the professional and bachelor's degree programs offered by the Engineering College at the Universidad del Bío-Bío. In this project, a survey-type instrument is validated for the evaluation of acquired graduate competencies, defined in Engineering programs at Universidad del Bío-Bío. Here, validation was carried out considering students from Industrial and Electrical civil Engineering programs. Once the instrument validity was verified, it was applied to determine the level of fulfillment of the competencies acquired at the Bachelor of Science in Engineering level. Obtained results were analyzed to identify existing gaps in the curriculum with respect to the skills expected from graduates, thus detecting different degrees of progress achieved and opportunities for improvement. The findings of this study indicate that, both specific and generic competencies at the Bachelor of Science level are within acceptable ranges, since they achieved scores above 85%.

Industrial Motor Drives require often required optimal speed and torque control. This work presents the implementation of a eld-oriented control (FOC) with a predictive current control strategy for an induction machine fed by a voltage source inverter. The FOC generates the stator current references for the predictive current controller, which selects the optimal switching state to be applied in the next sample period. The results from a Matlab/Simulink simulation validates the good dynamic performance of the proposed technique, making it a suitable strategy for induction machine control with two-level inverters.
