Abstract Education has an essential place and influence on the future and current economy and society in general. Understanding the mechanisms of value co-creation in the education environment is therefore of paramount importance for improving the quality of educational services. Value co-creation focuses on the interaction with the learner with the aim of better academic performance and students’ satisfaction. This paper presents areas in which value co-creation is applied in higher education institutions and the results of its implementation, both for universities and students. Value co-creation promotes and enhances the interaction between educational institutions and students and seems to have a positive impact not only on academic performance, but also on students’ satisfaction and engagement levels. The process of value co-creation allows educational units and students to work together to optimise their experience and enhance their ability to actively participate in the educational process.

Abstract Among developed countries, the Japanese population is aging rapidly, and it is estimated that the aging rate in 2021 will exceed 25% alone among developed countries. In Japan, while the birthrate is declining and the population is aging, the number of universities has increased in recent years. In this study, we considered the future issues of university education in Japan by reviewing the current situation of the declining birthrate and aging population in Japan, the enrollment rate, the transition of the number of universities, and the number of enrollees. In Japan, although the 18-year-old population is decreasing, the number of universities has increased from 604 to 803 over the last 20 years. In addition, the number of university admissions has increased sharply. In the near future, there is a possibility that the number of university admissions will exceed the number of applicants. This situation will cause various problems, such as disparities between universities, a decline in the academic ability of students and financial difficulties at universities. The government assumes that higher education will enter the era of “universal access” in the future and expects that these problems can be overcome. It is necessary to keep a close eye on the issue and deepen policy discussions on the appropriate level of university quotas and the number of universities.

Abstract Intercultural competence is an increasingly debated subject, at least in foreign specialized literature, not in the national one, especially in the context of university education where most exchanges of experience take place between universities from various European countries and not only. The purpose of this article is to identify and clarify from a theoretical point of view the concept of intercultural competence and the importance of its formation at the level of university education. The article analyzes aspects and opinions regarding the term intercultural competence and the components that make up this competence. It also presents some of the development models of competence, which have the role of strengthening the characteristics of intercultural competence. The theoretical aspects analyzed regarding intercultural competence demonstrate the importance of this competence and the necessity of its training at the university level, which should arouse the interest of actors in the university system towards a thorough training of intercultural competence for their students and giving it special importance.

Abstract This study aims to discover the materialism mediator that predicts the presence of academic motivation, the religiosity mediator predicts the presence of academic motivation and the religiosity mediator predicts the presence of materialism among Minangkabau university students in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. This study identified dimensions of materialism that relate to religiosity and academic motivation dimensions of religiosity that relate to materialism and academic motivation and dimensions of academic motivation relate to religiosity and materialism. The researcher administered the Materialistic Value Scale (MVS) to measure materialism, the Religious Commitment Inventory-10 (RCI-10) measures the religiosity, and the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) measures motivation. It was administered to 382 students of Minangkabau university students in a public university in West Sumatra. Pearson correlation, multi-variable regression analysis, and independent t-test were conducted. The multiple linear regression is employed to predict the presence of academic motivation and materialism. The results displayed that the dimension of the religiosity which is more related to academic motivation is the interpersonal religiosity; the dimension of the religiosity which is more related to materialism is the intrapersonal religiosity; while the dimension of materialism which is more related to academic motivation is the pursuit of happiness.

Abstract The school, seen as an organization, is a true barometer for society. Thus, starting from the idea that the development and growth of a school organization must materialize in the same way as an investment over a given period of time, we believe that its performance is also given by the cost of the human resource involved in such a process. The vision on the idea of school organization, as well as on the idea of quality, implies in these conditions a systematic analysis, but also its critique, taking into account what the specialized literature calls “the human resources management”. The purpose of our work is to see if and how such an investment in human resources is possible, but also what such an investment stands for. We take into account the fact that the employees of a school organization represent a good part of its costs. Under these conditions, a manager who deals with human resources in the school must know how to manage an entire process of training his or her own employees, who are the true professionals. When we state such an assumption, we have in mind the employees from all the departments of the school organization.

Abstract The pandemic period brought major changes in terms of the teaching-learning process in the university education system and represented an experience both for teachers and students. This study investigates the views, difficulties faced by students while attending online courses and seminars, but also disadvantages and benefits. In order to carry out the study, a questionnaire with several items aimed at achieving clear objectives was applied. The study was attended by 70 students from the PIPP specialization, bachelor’s cycle, who attended the online courses in a percentage of over 50%. The analysis captured various results regarding the way of teaching-learning in the online system, which indicates that most of the students in the research lean towards learning in a physical format, and only in exceptional cases online, among the causes or difficulties identified being the weak Internet connection, lack of concentration and focus of attention in classes caused by various disturbing factors in the home environment, difficulties in understanding the classes, the impossibility of physical participation in practice activities.

Abstract The employees are the valuable resources to any organizations. The business runs on the efficiency of employee’s performance. Their performances are determined by various factors like job skills, work culture, interpersonal and intrapersonal relationship and health. The health includes both physical and mental health. The disturbance in the mental health has an impact on the physical health which impacts the employee performance at work. Employee’s mental health primarily gets affected by their personal life. The unpleasant incident in their personal or family life affects the quality of work. They spend most of their time at workplace and feel like a second home to have supportive environment. The employer’s responsibility towards their employees in taking care of their personal is a must to provide work life balance. This is done through Employee Assistance Program (EPA) in promoting mental wellness at workplace. The program focuses on having proper communication with employees to address their professional concerns, counselling to provide professional support in addressing their personal problems and family issues and employee care to establish lasting relationship. This is to ensure the employees are connected with the organization and build trust and confidence and provide positive work environment. The satisfied employees are more productive at work and contribute to organizational growth.

Abstract Alongside constructivism, the humanistic approach is a core premise in the Good School Concept (2016), a major document on the educational policy in secondary schools in the Republic of Lithuania. However, the humanistic approach is driven by the psychological, rather than educational, perspective and does not have an educational framework. The present study seeks to explore the theoretical notion of humanism from the educational perspective. We first develop an approach to the humanistic paradigm in education as comprising five other paradigms, viz., instrumental pragmatism, social constructivism, humanism in the narrow sense, postmodernism and care ethics. We then deliver a qualitative case study of a Lithuanian sports and distance learning school, employing Stake’s (1995) triangulation method, thematic analysis by Terry et.al. (2017) and elements of discourse analysis (Fairclough 1995, van Dijk 2008, Wodak and Meyer 2006). The findings of the study summarize the expectations of the participants of the educational process in light of the humanistic model proposed in the work. The proposed framework is hoped to be of interest in the research into humanism in education.
(2017)和话语分析要素(Fairclough 1995, van Dijk 2008, Wodak and Meyer 2006)。本研究的结果根据本研究提出的人本主义模式,总结了教育过程参与者的期望。希望本文所提出的框架能对教育人文主义的研究有所启发。

Abstract The purpose of this study was to assess students’ grammar learning motivation through consciousness-raising tasks. To this end, the descriptive survey was carried out through a questionnaire and focus group discussion (FGD). The data gathered from the questionnaire was analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, and mean. This study was encouraged to take a sample of freshmen students from the limited sections. From these, 92 students participated. The study revealed that students were reluctant to practice their grammar on their own practice. On the other hand, the contents of the course itself do not allow students to do better without the help of teachers, as it does not include all the activities that push students to do well on their own. In addition, the teacher rarely encourages students to acquire additional grammar rules to develop a language without being aware of it during the lesson.

Abstract Lecturers in Nigerian universities, according to literature, are subjected to challenging workplace conditions that tends to inhibit their performance and subsequently, their ability to achieve the teaching, research and community development service functions of their job description. It, therefore, becomes pertinent that the work performance of lecturers be analysed to either support or negate existing literature on the subject matter. This study is qualitative in nature and data was gathered through in-depth interview schedule from nine universities across Southwestern Nigeria (three Federal universities, three State universities and three Private universities). Three face-to-face individual interviews were held with academic staff who were Heads of Department and/or Deans in each of the selected universities giving a total of 27 of such interviews.Data were analysed using content analysis. The study found out that there are hinderances surrounding the work performance of lecturers particularly in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and productivity due to challenging poor working conditions such as erratic power supply, increased workload, absence of certain office facilities and lack of research funds. This study thus supports existing literature.
