The bacteriology of water in a dental unit is important as potentially pathogenic microorganisms like Pseudomonas may be present in dental water unit, which could be fatal for immuno-compromised patients and be of significant morbidity in immuno-competent patients. It is difficult to treat infections caused by Pseudomonas due to their resistance to many commonly used disinfectants and antibiotics. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the Pseudomonas contamination in dental unit water lines of a dental hospital outpatient department and to analyse the antimicrobial susceptibility of Pseudomonas.

The main objective of inserting dental implants in various clinical situations is to avoid mobile prosthetic restorations or to obtain a better stability. In this way, patients are offered increased comfort and better integration of prosthetic restorations into the stomatognathic complex. The purpose of this case presentation is to highlight a case of complex oral rehabilitation in which the Sky Fast and Fixed system (Bredent GmbH, Senden, Germany) was chosen, in the case of maxillary restoration, thus avoiding a mobile prosthetic restoration. The result demonstrates a superior aesthetic rehabilitation than the initial situation, obtaining a significant improvement from the first treatment session.

Autor de corespondenţă: Raluca Monica Comăneanu E-mail: monica_tarcolea@yahoo.co.uk ABSTRACT Objectives. The objective of our study was the retrospective assessment of the failure rate of implant-prosthetic treatment in a group of patients in correlation with Renouard-Rangert biomechanical scoring 2 years after prosthetic loading. Material and method. The study material was represented by the data taken from the observation and treatment sheets of 323 patients. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria from the study, 297 observation and treatment sheets were selected, from which were taken data that were processed and statistically correlated with Microsoft Excel 2016. Results. The final group included 127 male patients and 170 female patients, aged between 25 and 74 years. The 55-64 age group was best represented, and the location of the edentulous gaps was predominantly unimaxillary (236 unimaxillary edentulous patients vs. 61 bimaxillary edentulous patients). 1627 implants were inserted, of which 47 did not have a secondary stability favorable to prosthesis and were explanted. After applying prosthetic restorations, patients presented for control every 6 months in the first year and then annually. The complications of the implant-prosthetic therapy instituted were represented by decimation, loosening of the fixing screws, fracture of the physiognomic component or bone resorption passing through the first coil of the implant. Discussions. In the studied group, although the Renouard-Rangert biomechanical score initially calculated was "green", at 2 years there were complications in 23.9% of patients, mainly due to the development of parafunctions or changes in the occlusion plan, as a result of dento-periodontal damage to other masticatory units. The change in biomechanical scoring was found mainly in women (48 cases, representing 67.6%). To validate the results, we recommend extending the batch and the dispensing period. Conclusions. The high percentage of therapeutic complications that occurred at 2 years that determined the change of the Renouard-Rangert biomechanical score (95.77%) demonstrates a statistically significant correlation between the 2 parameters.

Autor de corespondenţă: Asist. Univ. Dr. Ioana-Andreea Stanciu E-mail: ioana2stanciu@gmail.com ABSTRACT Objectivs. Assessment of carious experience and risk factors in children with mixed dentition. Material and method. Cross-sectional clinical study on a group of 176 students (82 boys) aged 7-10 years (v = 8.34±1.40 years) from Bucharest. The children answered questionnaires about eating and oral hygiene habits and were clinically examined in the classroom, according to WHO recommendations (1997). Carious lesions, bacterial plaque and salivary pH were assessed. There were calculated: caries prevalence index (Ip), dmf-t/s and DMF-T/S indices, bacterial plaque index (BPI), mean salivary pH. Correlations were established between dmf-t/s, DMF-T/S, BPI and the analyzed risk factors. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 20.0, using t-test, ANOVA test and Pearson correlation (p = 0.05). Results. Ip = 47.72% (56.09% -boys; 40.42% -girls; p < 0.05); dmf-t = 4.45±3.13; DMF-S = 8.60±7.16;DMF-T = 1.61±1.69;DMF-S = 1.77±1.90; BPI = 1.05; salivary pH = 6.88; Children with occasional tooth-brushing (7%) had statistically significant more caries than those with brushing 1 or 2 times/day (23%/70%) (r = -0.088/-0,121 with DMF-T/S, r = -0,452/-0.534 with dmf-t/s). Children with 1-2 snacks/day (79%) had higher dmf-t/s and DMF-T/S than those without snacks (21%) (p > 0.05, r = 0.048-0.067). Those who ate sticky foods (11%) had more carious experience than those who ate fruits (77%) or non-stick foods (12%) (moderate correlations: r = 0,412/0,317 with DMF-T/S, r = 0.465/0.303 with dmf-t/s). Tooth-brushing duration, salivary pH and consumption of sweet-carbonated beverages were not correlated with carious experience. Conclusions. Caries prevalence index and carious experience indices had high values. The daily frequency of tooth-brushing and food quality were determinants factors for caries occurrence.
Autor de corespondenţă:Asist。

Aim. Assessment of the distribution and severity of complicated caries in primary molars and the treatment methods applied in a group of children treated in the Pedodontics Department, Bucharest. Material and method. Retrospective observational-descriptive study performed on the dental files of 100 patients (48 boys) aged between 3 and 10 years. The inclusion criteria was: at least one second primary molar erupted, in non-syndromic patients caries-free or with common pattern of caries. Caries prevalence index (Ip) and dmf-t/-s indices on primary molars for the whole group, by age groups and sex were calculated. Caries distribution and severity, especially those complicated on primary molars and the treatment methods applied were assessed. Statistical analysis was performed with the program SPSS 20.0, using t-test and ANOVA-test (p = 0.05). Results. Ip = 95%; 78% of children had at least one primary molar with complicated caries; dmf-t = 4.02±2.93; dmf-s = 9.67±6.83. Of the 748 primary molars examined, 394 (52.67%) had caries, of which 242(61.42%) – uncomplicated caries and 152(38.57%) – complicated caries: 56(14.21%) with pulpitis – 12 (3.04%) acute pulpitis and 44(11.16%) chronic pulpitis, 96(24.36%) with pulp necrosis – 5 (1.26%) uncomplicated, 91 (23.09%) complicated. 51.01% of caries were occlusal-proximal, the differences being non-statistically significant between arches (p > 0.05). First primary molars were more affected by complicated caries than the second ones (58.55% versus 41.45%) (p < 0.05). The most common treatment methods applied: for pulpitis-devital pulpectomy (88.57%); for pulp necrosis: conservative treatment (37.5%), extraction (52.08%). Conclusions. The high prevalence of complicated caries in primary molars underlines the need for regular dental check-ups in order to apply more conservative treatments.

When opting for an orthodontic treatment, several factors must be considered in order to achieve excellent results. One of the most important factor, for the practitioner and also for the patient, is the duration of the treatment. Aim. In this paper, the aim is to highlight representative factors that influence the duration of orthodontic treatment. Material and method. We performed a retrospective study on 154 clinical cases within the Department of Ortho dontics and Dento-facial Orthopedy at the Faculty of Dentistry from Cluj-Napoca and Tg. Mures. The duration of treatment of these patients was calculated excluding the containment stage, focusing only on the factors themselves. Results. The longest therapy time resulted in patients aged 9-12 years (an average of 34.5 months), in those having a class II subdivision 1 malocclusion (an average of 30.6 months), and for extractional treatments (27 months, com paring with 23 months in non-extractional treatments). Conclusion. The longest duration is found in the extractional treatment of Angle class II subdivision 1 patients. On the other hand, the use of temporary anchorage devices (TAD) reduces the duration of the orthodontic treatment.

One of the most important factor, for the practitioner and also for the patient, is the duration of the treatment. Aim. In this paper, the aim is to highlight representative factors that influence the duration of orthodontic treatment. Material and method. We performed a retrospective study on 154 clinical cases within the Department of Ortho dontics and Dento-facial Orthopedy at the Faculty of Dentistry from Cluj-Napoca and Tg. Mures. The duration of treatment of these patients was calculated excluding the containment stage, focusing only on the factors themselves. Results. The longest therapy time resulted in patients aged 9-12 years (an average of 34.5 months), in those having a class II subdivision 1 malocclusion (an average of 30.6 months), and for extractional treatments (27 months, com paring with 23 months in non-extractional treatments). Conclusion. The longest duration is found in the extractional treatment of Angle class II subdivision 1 patients. On the other hand, the use of temporary anchorage devices (TAD) reduces the duration of the orthodontic treatment.","PeriodicalId":33514,"journal":{"name":"Revista Romana de Stomatologie","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48691775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
