Cost-Effective Analysis of a Mobile Dental Van in Delivering Primary Oral Health Care among Adopted Schools of a Dental College, Bangalore–a Retrospective Study 移动牙科车在班加罗尔一所牙科学院学校提供初级口腔卫生保健的成本效益分析——回顾性研究

Background: Oral diseases remain one of the major public health challenges in India. Mobile dental services may be used as alternatives to supplement the standard care in order to reach underserved populations in several countries. However, not enough research has been conducted on school children. Hence, this paper aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness (where cost is expressed in monetary units and results in non-monetary units) of a mobile dental vehicle (MDV) in delivering primary oral health care among adopted schools of a dental college in Bengaluru. Methods: This retrospective population-based study was conducted among adopted children of the age group of 4–15 years in Bengaluru. The data were collected from the college camp out-patient register over three academic years of 2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20 in December 2020. Cost-effectiveness was calculated utilizing the formula total cost (direct+indirect) of service provision with the total number of the patients who used the services in the same period. Statistical tests unpaired student t-test, ANOVA, Tukey’s post hoc test, and all the statistical tests were set with a level of significance (p <0.1), which was conducted using the statistical package SPSS version 19.0. Results: A total of 14,806 patients and 75,421 teeth were treated in mobile dental vehicle. The cost for each patient was around 259.0/- rupees and for each tooth, around 51.3/-rupees. Around 2686 teeth were benefitted from the use of a portable dental chair. Therefore, the cost of treating each tooth was around 12.3/- rupees. The mean difference in the number of the treated patients was found to be significantly decreasing. Conclusion: We conducted the current study to demonstrate the costs of providing primary oral health care among adopted schools. Mobile dental vehicle and the portable dental chair were found to be cost-effective in delivering primary oral health care.

Students’ Academic Buoyancy Prediction based on Health Literacy and Performance of School Health Nurses 基于健康素养和学校卫生护士表现的学生学业浮力预测

Background: Schools have an important role to play in helping students achieve buoyancy (AB) and healthy learning. The main purpose of this study is to predict students’ academic buoyancy based on the health literacy (HL) of school health nurses (SHN) and their performance in health promoting high schools.Methods: This descriptive correlational study consisted of the SHN of all health promotion secondary schools of East Azarbaijan province educational districts. The statistical population of the study includes 260 SHN in schools in the 2019-2020 academic year. For sampling, 160 SHN and 320 students were selected using stratified random sampling. For data collection, we used the HL Questionnaire of the Institute of Health Sciences, the SHN Performance Questionnaire of Vaparzeh and colleagues and the AB Questionnaire of Hosseinchari and Dehghanizadeh.Results: Estimation of the descriptive statistics and the correlation of variables based on SPSS software showed that the means of HL (141.41±18.49), performance (95.45±12.89), and AB (52.3±6.81) were higher than average. There was a significant correlation between HL, performance, and AB. The results of structural equation modeling with PLS software demonstrated that the performance of SHN and its dimensions could be predicted based on HL (p <0.001), But students’ AB is not predictable based on HL (P=0.054) and the performance of SHNs (P=0.63) or mediated by their performance (P=0.09).Conclusion: Health literacy promotion programs for teachers and school nurses can ensure the success of schools in improving student health.

Effects of Peers on Motivation and Physical Activity Behavior of Adolescent Students: An Investigation of Trans-Contextual Model 同伴对青少年学生动机和体育活动行为的影响:跨语境模型研究

Background: One of the most important issues in school health is believed to be finding factors that could affect students’ participation in physical activity and sports. Thus, we conducted the present study to investigate the effects of peers on motivation and physical activity behavior of students. This study was theoretically based on the self-determination theory and transcontextual model. Methods: The present research was a correlational survey based on structural equations. The statistical sample included 384 male and female high school students from Azadshahr, Golestan, Iran, in 2019. Standard questionnaires including Peers Questionnaire, Relatedness Need Satisfaction Questionnaire, Intrinsic Motivation Scale, and Physical Activity Behavior Questionnaire were used for collecting the data. We utilized structural equations method to analyze the data. Results: The results revealed a significant effect of peers on relatedness need satisfaction (β=0.65, T=21.17). Moreover, relatedness need satisfaction had a significant effect on students’ intrinsic motivation in the physical education class (β=0.76, T=43.78). Furthermore, intrinsic motivation in the physical education class was found to be significantly transferred to intrinsic motivation outside school (β=0.73, T=42.44). Finally, intrinsic motivation in leisure time significantly affected students’ physical activity (β=0.80, T=51.48). Conclusions: These findings highlighted the positive role of peers in physical education class in promoting the students’ motivation and physical activity behavior in leisure time.

Physical Growth of Primary School Children in Cambodia 柬埔寨小学生的身体发育

Background: Following up children’s health at schools is crucial to ensuring their health and nutrition supply. Cambodia does not have a system for assessing the children’s growth. In this regard, WHO child growth reference might be used to assess child growth in this country. The present study aimed to compare Cambodian primary schoolchildren’s growth in three categories and assess their growth status by reference to the South-East Asian Nutrition Survey (SEANUTS) and WHO references. Methods: This is a case study of primary school children’s growth in Cambodia. Aichi University of Education in Japan conducted physical measurement in some primary schools in Cambodia in three categories: an urban school, a rural school with “school meals”, and a rural school without “school meals”. A total sample size of 9 487 primary schoolchildren was measured from 2015 to 2020. The data were analyzed by a computed formulation of LMS and SPSS statistics version 20. Results: Cambodian primary schoolchildren in the urban school were taller and heavier than those in the rural school with “school meals” and the rural school without “school meals”. The children in the rural school without “school meals” were the shortest and the lightest. The physical growth of the “schoolchildren” in Cambodia was similar to those of the pooled SEANUTS, but far below the WHO references. Conclusion: School meals have a positive influence on children’s growth. SEANUTS growth reference might be fitted to assess child growth in Cambodia, but the WHO reference is not fitted. National child growth curve and reference should be devised to accurately assess children’s growth in Cambodia.

Association of Peer Support and Parent-Child Interaction with Subjective Well-Being through the Mediation of Self-Efficacy Beliefs in Students with Hearing Impairment 同伴支持、亲子互动对听力障碍学生主观幸福感的影响:自我效能感信念的中介作用

Background: Subjective well-being is considered as one of the most important indicators of adolescents’ health. The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of self-efficacy beliefs in the causal relationships of peer support and parent-child interaction with the subjective well-being of students with hearing impairment in Kermanshah city in 2019.Methods: The study was a descriptive correlation performed employing path analysis. The statistical population comprised 268 girl students with hearing impairment in Kermanshah city, 146 of which were selected as the sample using stratified random sampling. In the present research, we utilized Ryff ’s Psychological Well-Being Scales, the Peer Support Questionnaire, Child-Parent Relationship Scale, and Self-Efficacy Beliefs Questionnaire.Results: The mean±SD of subjective well-being, peer support, parent-child interaction, and self-efficacy beliefs were respectively 53.10±23.86, 47.72±13.51, 101.20±23.78, and 43.20±12.96. A direct and positive association was observed between peer support and subjective well-being (β=0.167, P=0.0001), peer support and self-efficacy beliefs (β=0.398, P=0.0001), parent-child interaction and self-efficacy beliefs (β=0.544, P=0.0001), and between self-efficacy beliefs and subjective well-being (β=0.429, P=0.0001). The results of path analysis indicated that self-efficacy beliefs played a mediating role in the association between peer support (β=0.177, P=0.0001) and parent-child interaction (β=0.193, P=0.0001) with subjective well-being.Conclusion: According to our results, the proposed model was of good efficiency. Accordingly, by strengthening and improving peer support relationships, parent-child interaction and self-efficacy beliefs can improve the subjective well-being of deaf adolescents.

The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of self-efficacy beliefs in the causal relationships of peer support and parent-child interaction with the subjective well-being of students with hearing impairment in Kermanshah city in 2019.Methods: The study was a descriptive correlation performed employing path analysis. The statistical population comprised 268 girl students with hearing impairment in Kermanshah city, 146 of which were selected as the sample using stratified random sampling. In the present research, we utilized Ryff ’s Psychological Well-Being Scales, the Peer Support Questionnaire, Child-Parent Relationship Scale, and Self-Efficacy Beliefs Questionnaire.Results: The mean±SD of subjective well-being, peer support, parent-child interaction, and self-efficacy beliefs were respectively 53.10±23.86, 47.72±13.51, 101.20±23.78, and 43.20±12.96. A direct and positive association was observed between peer support and subjective well-being (β=0.167, P=0.0001), peer support and self-efficacy beliefs (β=0.398, P=0.0001), parent-child interaction and self-efficacy beliefs (β=0.544, P=0.0001), and between self-efficacy beliefs and subjective well-being (β=0.429, P=0.0001). The results of path analysis indicated that self-efficacy beliefs played a mediating role in the association between peer support (β=0.177, P=0.0001) and parent-child interaction (β=0.193, P=0.0001) with subjective well-being.Conclusion: According to our results, the proposed model was of good efficiency. COVID-19 Outbreak and School Dropout; A Worldwide Challenge for an Equitable Future 新冠肺炎疫情和辍学;公平未来的全球挑战

COVID-19 pandemic is one of the most major global health crises around the world. This outbreak has impacted all socio-economic and cultural dimensions of life (1). One of the affected domains is education from preschool to university. By March, 49 countries, including China, France, Iran, and Japan closed their schools to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19 (2). This phenomenon has raised major concerns due to its short-term and long-term negative outcomes. As far as short-term results are concerned, deprivation of many students from attending classes and, more importantly, inequality in access to virtual classes for low economic societies would be concerning. In the long run, reduced economic growth and social skills, inequity in the level of education, inequitable job opportunities, and many other negative socio-cultural outcomes would be of importance (3, 4).

Effect of Eight-week Core Stabilization Exercises on Static and Dynamic Balance Indices in Girls with Hyperlordosis: A Controlled Laboratory Study 8周核心稳定训练对女孩前凸过大的静态和动态平衡指标的影响:一项对照实验室研究

Background: Postural control can be affected by hyperlordosis and the effect of core training on postural control has yet to be established in students with hyperlordosis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of core stabilization exercises on balance indices in girls with hyperlordosis. Methods: In this controlled laboratory study, we divided 32 girls (14-15 years old) with hyperlordosis inTehran schools into experimental and control groups in 2018. The experimental group received two core exercise sessions per week for a period of eight weeks. Before and after exercises, we evaluated the balance indices of center of pressure (COP) and time to stabilization (TTS). To analyze the data, statistical analysis of the t-test was used via SPSS software. Results: We observed significant differences in the COP indices of R.AP (P=0.038) and V.AP (P=0.001) and TTS indices of vertical (P=0.012), antroposterior (P=0.032), and mediolateral directions (P=0.001) before and after stability exercises in the experimental group; however, no significant difference was found in R.AP (P=0.221), R.ML (P=0.192), V.AP (P=0.461), and V.ML (P=0.195) in the control group. Furthermore, the results implied a significant difference in the COP indices of R.AP (P=0.001) and V.AP (P=0.023) and the TTS indices of vertical (P=0.001), antroposterior (P=0.001), and mediolateral directions (P=0.001) between the two groups in the post-test condition. Conclusions: The study findings revealed that the eight weeks of core stabilization exercises could be considered as an appropriate training method for improving the postural control for 14-15-year-old girls with hyperlordosis.

Effects of Perceived Autonomy Support in the Physical Education on Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction, Intrinsic Motivation and Intention to Perform Physical Activity in High School Students 体育自主性支持对高中生基本心理需求满足、内在动机和体育活动意向的影响

Background: Finding factors or conditions that could increase the level of physical activity in students is a controversial topic concerning school health. We conducted the current research to investigate the effects of perceived autonomy support in physical education class on intrinsic motivation and intention to participation of high-school students in leisure-time physical activity. Gender differences were also reported. Methods: This study utilized a descriptive-correlation approach. Our participants comprised 400 high school students, including 100 tenth-grade boys, 100 eleventh-grade boys, 100 tenth-grade girls and 100 eleventh-grade girls, from Aliabad Katoul, Golestan, Iran, in 2019. The data was collected using standard questionnaires. We employed structural equation method to examine the associations between variables, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) to examine the gender differences. Results: Descriptive statistics showed that boys and girls of the same grade had almost identical age. The results of path analysis revealed that perceived autonomy support positively influenced psychological need satisfaction and intrinsic motivation (T=1.96 and T=2.09, respectively). Moreover, psychological need satisfaction positively affected intrinsic motivation in physical education class (T=15.23). Furthermore, intrinsic motivation in physical education class was transferred to intrinsic motivation in leisuretime (T=6.82). Intrinsic motivation in leisure-time positively affected the inclination to perform physical activity outside school (T=7.05). Finally, boys were observed to have higher perceived autonomy, higher motivation and be more willing to do physical activity compared to girls (p <0.001). Conclusions: Perceived autonomy support plays an important role in motivating students to be physically active. We discussed our results based on the self-determination theory. Practical and clinical implications were presented to physical education teachers and physicians.

A Prospective Study on Profile of Gynaecological Problems in Adolescent Girls at a Tertiary Care Centre 对三级保健中心少女妇科问题概况的前瞻性研究

Background: Gynaecological problems of adolescents occupy a special and very important place in the spectrum of gynaecologicaldisorders. Keeping this background in mind, this study was done to find the gynaecological problems of the adolescents attendinggynaecological OPD and emergency with the aim to study type of problems, causative factors and treatment modalities.Methods: It is a cross-sectional study done in outpatient department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department of HamdardInstitute of Medical Sciences & Research over a period of one year. Data was collected with the help of a pre- designed, pretestedquestionnaire after taking proper informed written consent from the unmarried adolescent females with age 11-19 years.Quantitative data is tabulated in numerical value as percentages.Results: In our study, most of the adolescents were the students of primary or secondary level educational status. The maincomplaint by adolescent girls in our study was menstrual problems (n=124,75.1%) including irregularity in flow, bleeding, bleeddays, occurrence of menses and pain. Menstrual problem was followed by vaginal discharge (n=43, 26%). The main diagnosiswas PCOD which was in 23 girls followed by vaginal discharge in 17 participants and urinary tract infection in 16 girls.Conclusion: A very empathetic attitude and special attention should be given to the adolescent population.

The Relationship between the Physical Fitness and Academic Performance of Students in Douala, Cameroon: A Cross-Sectional Study 喀麦隆杜阿拉地区学生体质与学业成绩的关系:一项横断面研究

Background: Academic success in Cameroon is more focused on the pedagogical aspects of classical subjects such as mathematics and English. Physical and sports education is only a recreational activity in the Cameroonian school context. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between physical fitness (cardiorespiratory fitness and motor skills) and academicperformance.Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 643 pupils with a mean age of 12.4±1.3 years were included. The cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2pic) was measured using the 20 m shuttle run test. Motor skills (e.g. speed and agility) were assessed with 4x10 m shuttle test. The students ‘academic performance in trimestral average, science and literacy was evaluated based on school records.Results: Boys had significantly higher anthropometrics (height and weight) and performance parameters (VO2pic and duration). As far as teaching disciplines are concerned, significant differences also existed between the genders. There was no significant association in terms of VO2pic and literacy (r=0.017; P=0.6625), english (r=0.052; P=0.1879), and mathematics (r=0.070; P=0.0767) subjects. However, in science (r=0.080; P=0.0418) and trimestral average (r=0.087; P=0.0273) subjects, a significant association with VO2pic was found. Besides, significant relationships were observed between the duration of the physical and sport education activity and the academic performance. Higher VO2pic values were found in younger students (r=0.252;P=0.0001). For all grades, VO2pic decreased with age.Conclusion: The minor effects of physical fitness on academic performance among young Cameroonian pupils were linked to specific socio-cultural and socio-economic contexts. This study showed the beneficial effects of extra-curricular activities on academic performance.

The cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2pic) was measured using the 20 m shuttle run test. Motor skills (e.g. speed and agility) were assessed with 4x10 m shuttle test. The students ‘academic performance in trimestral average, science and literacy was evaluated based on school records.Results: Boys had significantly higher anthropometrics (height and weight) and performance parameters (VO2pic and duration). As far as teaching disciplines are concerned, significant differences also existed between the genders. There was no significant association in terms of VO2pic and literacy (r=0.017; P=0.6625), english (r=0.052; P=0.1879), and mathematics (r=0.070; P=0.0767) subjects. However, in science (r=0.080; P=0.0418) and trimestral average (r=0.087; P=0.0273) subjects, a significant association with VO2pic was found. Besides, significant relationships were observed between the duration of the physical and sport education activity and the academic performance. Higher VO2pic values were found in younger students (r=0.252;P=0.0001). For all grades, VO2pic decreased with age.Conclusion: The minor effects of physical fitness on academic performance among young Cameroonian pupils were linked to specific socio-cultural and socio-economic contexts.
