We present an $n^{O(1/epsilon )}$ PTAS for minimum dominating set problem in unit disk graphs. Our approach gives an asymptotic improvement over the best known [Nieberg and Hurink WAOA2005], which runs in $n^{O(1/epsilon log 1/epsilon )}$, under a more strict (but typical) assumption that the underlying geometric structure is known, i.e., the locations of all unit disks are specified. Our key ingredient is an improved dynamic programming algorithm that depends exponentially on a more essential 1-dimensional “width” of the problem.

Nowadays, the number of pets lost is increasing in Thailand. This is because the pet owners cannot find their pet when it gets lost or pets may not have a chance to get back again due to an accident or dangerous disease. In order to prevent this problem, this research project proposes Bokk Meow, which is a mobile application for pet owners to find and track their pets anywhere and anytime. Bokk Meow has six main functions, which are managing user and pet information, tracking and finding pets by applying GPS technology with a tracking pet collar, planning a schedule for pet care and activities, posting and viewing news feeds, searching nearest pet clinics or pet shops, and viewing useful pet care and pet information. By using Bokk Meow, the pet owners can find their pets more conveniently than in the past and take primary care of their pets when they get sick. As a result, the application can help decrease the number of stray pets in the community.

There are many types of disaster. Some of them cannot be predicted in advance. Therefore, we cannot prepare to handle or evacuate people before the incident, resulting in many victims waiting for help. This paper proposes a system called “IamHere” that can be used as a tool for the rescuers to locate victim easier. In most cases, people will have a smartphone device that has become an integral part of both our work and personal lives. These smartphones can be used for rescue in various emergency situations to reduce the difficulty and resuscitation time of the rescuers. IamHere system is divided into three components, i.e., a website, rescue side application, and victim’s application. The websites are for monitoring the user’s overall information. The rescue side application can create a unique Wireless LAN (SSID) identifier to activate the application that was installed on the victim’s smartphone. Then the victim’s phone will generate a loud noise to help the rescue team locate them more easily. The response of rescue experts to the system was that our system was able to provide a reasonable level of assistance. The system also requires the participation from other emergency response sectors for use in various real-world situations.

Even though the concept of Linked Open Data has been around for over two decades, understanding a new dataset still remains as a challenging task demanding lot of time and effort. Its flexibility of integrating multiple ontolo-gies/vocabularies in itself creates a challenge as it leads to difficulty in understanding the schema of the dataset. In this paper, we propose VizLOD, a web based tool that extracts schema information by inferring ontological characteristics based on the triples in the LOD data sources. SPARQL queries are used for this purpose. The extracted schema information is visualized using an interactive node-link graph that eases the cognitive load on the users. To add clarity to the dataset, instance view is also provided in tabular form and as an instance level graph. Our preliminary experiments have shown some promising results for VizLOD.

High throughput screening (HTS) assays is routinely used in basic biochemical, cell biology and drug discovery research. A system called Simple Colorimetric Detection (SCD) for HST of antioxidant capacity was presented. It performs on colorimetric method that uses observable colors of chemical reaction to estimate the antioxidant concentration. Previously, manual detecting the color intensity by using an image editor tool was used. It takes a lot of time and workforce. In this work, we proposes an automatic color measuring method for the SCD system. The proposed method consists of four steps. It obtains a color image of well plate as an input image. In the first step, region of well plate is d etermined. Next, we apply an edge detection and morphological techniques to obtain all objects on the well plate in the second step. The obtaining objects on the well plate are classified into spot or non-spot. The radius and eccentricity of each object are used for this purpose. In the third step, all spot locations are estimated by using the information of detected spots. Finally, color intensities of each spot is measured. The experimental results show that the proposed method perfectly detected all spots on well plate images generated from the SCD instrument. Moreover, it performed well in measuring color intensity values with acceptable precision. We additionally demonstrated how it works in practical with real dataset obtained from the SCD system.

Face recognition has been a challenging research problem to date due to its applications. Researchers are currently focusing on a rare number of images, various face poses, and illuminations. This paper proposes a new promising approach to cope with the face recognition in unconstrained environment. It uses a single face image in various poses (non-frontal face) and various illuminations. It applied Histogram Equalization (HE) to get rid of illuminations and using mirrored images to augment the number of face images. In addition, to cope with non-frontal face with various poses, the face model using Active Appearance Model (AAM) is implemented. The result of AAM is then oriented to the frontal face for feature extraction using Histograms of Oriented Gradients (HOG). For classification, Support Vector Machines (SVM) is implemented. In simulation on FERET benchmark database, the proposed approach provided the outstanding results at 90.12% in accuracy on average superior to the compared method.

The study on human gait has gained lots of attentions for years since there are many applications including medical rehabilitation for patients having walking disorders. However, such study requires an equipment to measure the movement of body parts accurately. This work aims to build an equipment to measure, collect, visualize and analyze the knee angles and foot plantar pressures of a person who walks normally as well as of a patient who walks with some disorders. The equipment is a wearable device consisting of the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) installed on the thigh and shank for gathering angles of knee movements, the Force-Sensitive Resistor (FSR) for gathering foot pressures from plantar during a walk, the Arduino Uno units for collecting the gait data from both legs, and a NodeMCU for a controller. The collected data will be stored into a database, and the outputs are visualized via a web user interface. The statistical analysis of the walking are also displayed so that the history of walking can be used to analyze changes or tell some walking patterns of a person.

Digital signature over elliptic curve is one of the most important applications of security because it is effective. Recently, it has been developed and defined in the various standard of security. The application of the digital signature are signer authentication, data integrity, and non-repudiation. Currently, the requirements to implement authentication process on a computer hardware with limited resource such as energy, memory and computing power are increasing. The developer should consider these factors along with security factor for the effective implement on the computer hardware with limited resource. In this paper, we propose the Schnorr signature scheme using Koblitz curve over a field of characteristic two. The advantage of Schnorr signature scheme is a good combination with Koblitz curve over a field of characteristic two, therefore its arithmetic can be performed in any computer. Moreover, we use Double-and-Add scalar multiplication to reduce time in the process of systems. In addition, this paper shows a result of time in the process of the system to compare the performance of the Schnorr signature scheme on Koblitz curve using Double-andAdd scalar multiplication with the Schnorr signature scheme on Koblitz curve using typical scalar multiplication. The result of this study is that both systems working correctly. However, the Schnorr signature scheme on Koblitz curve using Double-andAdd performs better in time efficiency than of Schnorr signature scheme on Koblitz curve using typical scalar multiplication.

Collecting effective healthcare survey data requires a novel approach differed from traditional paper-based methods where manual electronic data entry would be required. Inaccuracy and mistakes can occur at any points from gathering, transporting to entering collected data into a computer. dCollective is a cloudbased software application designed to assist healthcare workers to design customized online survey forms for interviewers, patients and caretakers. The workers create, manage and assign electronic forms to their target groups. Survey forms can be logically stored and retrieved based on various variables such as patient's age, gender, medical state and clinical status. In addition to typical data gathering from paper forms, a dCollective form may include geolocation along with picture, audio and video. Data from each form is extracted to construct longitudinal information pertaining to each patient. This information will be used alongside respected patient's medical record to create visual representations and statistical reports for each patient or a group of patients based on a set of search criteria.
