Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore and analyse the assessment of financial resources used in occupational safety measures. The paper is based on workplace risk assessment, mandatory health examinations, occupational health surveillance, accident analysis, analysis of the budget and costs of SEMS.

Abstract Developed countries are concerned about financial problems that are caused by people’s continuously extending life span. Telework can be seen as a tool of influencing the senior employees to postpone their retirement. Current research uses empirical data from a survey with 127 respondents that work for real estate companies in Estonia. Results show that a great number of older people who are currently working with information communication technology (ICT) agree to work longer if they can use telework. It is necessary to educate employees and employers about the disadvantages and risks concerning telework as well as introducing the potential of telework.

Abstract In nursing homes, managers need to create work environment which considers patient’s and worker’s needs and helps the organization to respond to a complicated and changing environment. The aim of the study is to investigate the influence of working environment on care workers’ safe behavior. We used KIVA questionnaire (characterizes the wellbeing workers). Our study reveals that in order to create the blame-free culture and non-punitive environment, the managers should pay attention to several factors: commitment, communication, leadership, collaboration, teamwork and learning.

Abstract The article contains a study on technical resources of the State Fire and Rescue Service (hereinafter referred to as SFRS) for the provision of rescue works at height, its technical capabilities and problems in performance of particular tasks. Since most of ladder trucks and lift trucks used by SFRS are obsolete both physically and morally as well as in view of problems with provision of rescue works arising with changing specificity of urban infrastructure, it is necessary to renew SFRS motor fleet with a modern machinery, more efficient in firefighting and rescue works. The study aims to review the variety of SFRS lift trucks and ladder trucks, reflect the problems with operation of SFRS lift trucks and ladder trucks and propose to SFRS possible solutions for operation of SFRS lift trucks and ladder trucks and other problems.

Abstract Waste management is often recognised in the society as an activity sector possessing an extensive potential harm on technogenic safety. As most of the European Union countries have experienced at least theoretical shift from waste management to resource management, it is now extremely important to implement this shift in practice, moving from disposing waste or by-products to developing a cooperation network that allows different industries to use each other’s waste as resources. This shift will lead to saving of primary resources and raw materials and develop recycling and reuse, bringing them to a higher level.

Abstract Human society is more and more negatively influencing the environment. Besides caused damage, there is inefficient use of resources. An efficient approach to reducing the negative influence on environment at constant development of society has to be complex. It is relevant to consider possible variants of saving approach towards resources that the human takes from the environment and, at that, to take into account the possibility of recycling them and using sources of renewable energy. At that point, active social mind towards ecological problems and ways of solving them in different areas of technocratic society’s activity is important.

Abstract The safety management system has been analysed in 16 Estonian enterprises using the MISHA method (Method for Industrial Safety and Health Activity Assessment). The factor analysis (principal component analysis and varimax with Kaiser analysis) has been implemented for the interpretation of the results on safety performance at the enterprises implementing OHSAS 18001 and the ones that do not implement OHSAS 18001. The division of the safety areas into four parts for a better understanding of the safety level and its improvement possibilities has been proven through the statistical analysis. The connections between the questions aimed to clarify the safety level and performance at the enterprises have been set based on the statistics. New learning package “training through the questionnaires” has been worked out in the current paper for the top and middle-level managers to improve their safety knowledge, where the MISHA questionnaire has been taken as the basis.

Abstract We think that not enough attention is devoted to the aspect of safety along with the development of dangerous technologies, equipment and machinery, as well as discovery of new manufacturing methods. This issue concerns essentially enterprises and areas, which contain explosive materials and toxics. Therefore, special attention should be devoted to these kinds of enterprises to define the level of risk of technogenic breakdowns and disasters, involving fire and explosion. When producing Porofor, we offer precise methods and means to decrease dangerous risks related to working with explosive and flammable substances, for example, we propose the protection package to prevent the explosion hazards during the technological process of manufacturing the forming agents.

Abstract Occupational risk prevention can be managed in several ways. Voluntary safety management standard OHSAS 18001 is a tool, which is considered to give contribution in effective risk management in the manufacturing industry. The current paper examines the benefits of OHSAS 18001 based on the statistical analysis. MISHA method is used for safety audit in 16 Estonian enterprises. The results demonstrate the objectives why companies implement or are willing to implement OHSAS 18001, bring out differences in safety activities for 3 types of companies and determine correlations among different safety activity areas. The information is valuable for enterprises that are willing to improve their safety activities via a voluntary safety management system.
