This paper presents the design, development and analysis of a game for computer literacy. Specifically, the game addresses educational objectives included in the curriculum of non-technological careers, such as the identification and analysis of concepts related to basic hardware components of a computer. These objectives are joined with those of a video game, i.e., live an attractive, motivating and enriching experience. The game has focused on the interaction between the player, who plays the role of a student, a 3D virtual computer, and a character who plays the role of the teacher. The player interacts with the computer and answers a series of inquiries posed by the teacher, all related to components of the 3D computer located in the game scenario, which represents the teacher's office. For each correct answer, the player receives a sounded feedback and messages of encouragement from the teacher, as well as points. Once the player completes each level, the result is stored and can be displayed in a scoreboard. Game analysis has been done using the so-named LM-GM framework, which is an analytical model proposed by GaLA (Game and Learning Alliance, the European Network of Excellence on Serious Games), that maps learning mechanics (LM) to game mechanics (GM). The results of the analysis indicate that the serious game seemly integrates learning objectives as well as LM and GM.

Public Administration organizations handle increasingly higher amounts of information in digital format. Therefore, more rigorous and comprehensive security controls are indispensable. In literature, security policies assume a paramount role among security measures. However, a 2010 study reveals the existence of a low number of City Councils where information systems security policies are implemented [1]. This paper's contribution is to compare the data from that study with 2016 data by presenting the results of a survey conducted on the Local Public Administration in Portugal. The results are discussed in light of literature and future works are identified with the aim of enabling the adoption of security policies in Public Administration.

This paper deals with the optimal resource location problems used for large public service systems designing. Such problems have many practical applications in different areas of human life. To describe the problems, the weighted p-median problem is usually formulated. A standard objective in this formulation is to minimize the total disutility, like social costs. The social costs are often proportional to the distance travelled by all system users to the nearest located source of provided service. If a large instance of the problem is described by a location-allocation model, then the model size often exceeds any acceptable limit for available optimization software. It must be noted, that the numbers of served users and possible service center locations may take the value of several hundreds or thousands. To avoid this obstacle, the approximate approach based on a radial formulation with homogenous system of radii given by so-called dividing points has been developed. In this paper, we present both exact and approximate approaches to the weighted p-median problem and study, how the number of dividing points used for distance approximation impacts the solution accuracy and computational time. All reported models of the decision problems are described by means of mathematical programming. To obtain the optimal solution, the universal optimization environment XPRESS-IVE was used.

This article aims at presenting and summarizing the main concepts of citizenship, digital citizenship and digital inclusion, within the concept of citizenship construction. The methodological approach is essentially explicative, bibliographical and documental. We begin with a state-of-the art of the topic, which is necessary to prepare the well-documented empirical investigation that will be carried out after this piece of work. We discuss a new approach of digital citizenship, based on the information and knowledge society and we propose a framework to assess it, taking into consideration the direct and indirect impact of the digital inclusion programmes on poor populations, in Telecentros, in Belo Horizonte (Brazil).

This paper proposes a mental model approach to support category hierarchy maintenance on sellers' self-input items in e-commerce websites. We conduct co-occurrence analysis between sellers' self-input items and existing website category items, and use Hierarchical Clustering Analysis to explore hierarchical structure and the association relationships hidden among these subjects. At last, we draw on Multidimensional Scaling to visualize and validate the results of Hierarchical Clustering Analysis. So the corresponding positions of different sellers' self-input items in the existing category hierarchy can be determined. An empirical study has also been undertaken with the log data of one Chinese e-commerce website. The achievements of this paper can be applied to determine the most proper category hierarchy or recommend the top N categories for sellers' consideration when they list items on e-commerce websites.

Universities and polytechnics are educational institutions that make decisions within the university management, taking into account various factors such as the number of vacancies to offer (not only the university, as each course itself), the courses setting strategy and his regime, the type of the course and publication. This paper presents a study on the evolution of vacancies and students placed in higher education in Portugal, taking into account an analysis of data from the page of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education from 2004 until 2015. The results show that vacancies available experienced a positive increase. However, since 2010 until the last year, there has been a progressive decrease. In relation to the number of students placed, this has been subject to fluctuations and some turning points, but in the last two years showed an increase. The most popular courses were Management and Medicine, and those who had more students were Nursing and Management.

The current internship report was drown up to fulfil the necessary prerequisitesto obtain the de degree of master in nursery and primary school education. Research was conducted in a 1st year class of the 1st Basic education cycle, comprised of 27 students, of the “Quinta da Granja” school where the supervised practice took place. The objective of the present research is to ascertain the potential contributions of a complementary digital resource along with the traditional paper resource as to better motivate and involve the students, promoting greater and better learning. The starting question that guided this practical intervention is as follows: "To what extent do the use of DER-Digital Education Resources, better the teaching and learning process?" From this starting point the objectives are: 1-Promote the use of information and communication technologies in the education process; 2-Put into context the use of DER-Digital Education Resources in the teaching/ learning process; 3-Look into the potential of DER in promoting significant learning; 4-Implementing the diversification of educational resources in the classroom: paper format (school book) and digital format (DER). Relating to the kind of research, the adopted methodology was of a qualitative nature, based on active research. The data collection techniques used where, field notes participant observation, semi structured interviews, questionnaire surveys and photographic records. This data collection counted with the direct participation of students, of cooperating teacher, the "pedagogical pair" and the head teachers of “Quinta da Granja EB1” School. The results obtained, following the analysis and treatment of data, concluded that the use of DER led the students to a more in depth learning, by the fact that they promote higher levels of interest, commitment motivation, involvement and initiative in the course of the proposed activities.

The education sector is going through a very marked change in relation to the needs of students who arrive at Higher Institutions Education (HIEs), and the labor market requirements. There are already solutions that try to meet the new requirements; however, the changing of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) require a rapid and demanding adaptation. In this context it is assumed that education systems must address the backgrounds diversity of students, taking into account their need in order to provide access to learning objects, as well as the validation of knowledge of each student. In this paper, we propose a model where all the learning and e-learning elements are present and where the student is the focus and the one who decides what should be included in this learning environment in order to create a Customized Learning Environment.

Advances in usability and design techniques (e.g. user-centered design) try to facilitate the use of interactive systems. However, users still have to adapt to interactive systems, i.e. they have to learn the steps required to accomplish a task either by trial and error or by obtaining help. While advanced users are usually able to adapt without much effort this is far from being the case with beginners. Some interactive systems offer different interaction styles in an attempt to meet the needs of all types of user but this is not the case with all interactive systems. In this paper we present the USS framework, which aims to be the basis for the adaptation of interactive systems to user needs through task automation. The work is illustrated by means of a case study.

Although non-functional requirements (NFR) are the basis for the definition of a appropriate architecture to the software context and have influence on the time and cost of development, elicitation of the requirements still seems to be a problem for many organizations. The objective of this study is to identify the current situation of the organizations as the NFR elicitation. We conducted a survey of many professionals seeking information about the elicitation of NFR in their organizations. There is the participation of several roles involved in the software development that reported the reasons why these requirements are often not elicited.
