Stock unavailability in the supply of medicines to pharmacies can be caused by several factors including manufacturing problems, lack of raw materials, end of product selling, disease and epidemics outbreaks. Furthermore, the sale of medicines by some pharmacies to foreign markets has increased in recent years, and is considered one of the main causes of medicine supply failures in Portugal.

The use of computers and the Internet have changed classic methods of teaching and Learning, introducing the concept of distance Learning as a great opportunity for studying unfettered by constraints of time and space [1]. In addition, acquisition of new skills and knowledge is not only affected by an individual's mental schemes or beliefs, but also by their interaction, cooperation and collaboration with others [1]. This perspective fits e.g. in teaching blind and deaf people alongside of children with special educational needs. The aim of the research developed until the moment was to prove that the full integration of the concept of teaching/learning in the light of Feuerstein and Gardner theories is advantageous in this specific field has been proved with children without difficulties [2]. The proposed architecture is based on an intelligent structure supported by Chi-square and a Genetic Algorithm - the evaluation block - supported in a special structured Learning Object, named Knowledge Block - the information and knowledge block [2]. This paper makes four critical contributions: (1) It presents an adaptive system to improve special educational needs; (2) Extends the paradigm to new fields of education as is the special educational needs; (3) Uses a non-linear “thinking” conducting to a correct learning path based on individual special needs of each subject in study; (4) Extends our research paradigm to the ULearning environment.

During the development of computer systems, business process modeling is a phase that delivers important firsthand inputs for requirements engineering. The goal of business process mapping is to understand, improve and organize the activities of the process to ensure efficient and correct implementation. Quality in business process modeling can decisively influence the software quality. Internal quality analysis is made in-house, for the development process, while external quality analysis is made for the final product and satisfaction of the end consumer. Quality assurance comes from quality attributes verified with checklists in iterative cycles. Then, process mapping contributes both to producing consistent artifacts to better communications within the project. This article presents a methodology for quality assurance of process modeling that can be applied for the development of large computer systems. The methodology was used in a complex case study, with the mapping of business processes using BPMN, to develop a system for human resources management within the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management (MPOG) in Brazil.

In this article, we present a tool for defining the software validation process. The tool is implemented based on metamodel validation software based on the CMMI model. The tool enables small software organizations that have different difficulties such as: applying the models to improve their organization, lack of resources and trained personnel and knowledge test, to establish the validation process of its products through this tool.

This research aims to use a hybrid recommendation method based on probabilistic techniques and topics modeling that provide recommendations most close fitting the user compared to other traditional recommendation models. We carry out a comprehensive review of the recommended methods for content-based systems and collaborative filtering, mainly in the domain of recommending movies. The methods discussed are the matrix factorization and Latent Dirichlet Allocation method. The literature review around these models focuses on identifying problems and open issues that may be covered for future researches. Also, we analyzed the recommendation models that integrant latent factor methods and topics modeling, which will be used to compare results obtained with the hybrid model.

As a result of improved living conditions and the progress achieved in areas related to medicine, there is a decrease in the mortality rate but an increase in the number of patients with chronic diseases. Contrary to what happened until a few decades ago, patients with chronic diseases now have a high life expectancy. However, the patients increased life expectancy, often causes great pain and significant adverse effects. In addition to prolonging life, it is essential to increase the quality of life (QoL) of patients. The QoL is now considered an important aspect in clinical practice for patients with chronic illnesses, but the methods to assess QoL, in automatic or semi-automatic manners and their use in clinical decision support are still underexplored and their applications are virtually non-existent. This paper presents an overview of research related to health quality of Life, estimation of quality of life including its continuous estimation, modeling and behavioral recognition and representation of knowledge in this area and decision support systems for clinical decision making and quality of life related applications.

Social networks have been one of the most simple, available and developed means of communication. Herewith, even more companies pay attention to their reputation because one simple comment or opinion about a product/service of a company/brand could influence the decision making of other users/consumers. This work aims to better understand how the social networks are increasingly sought after by people and how companies can keep track of this evolution. As for this work's methodology a literature study for each topic was performed and a questionnaire was carried out to the users/consumers in order to analyze the social networks, the opinions transmitted and how the company's reputation may get out impaired for the purpose of the factors that can influence the reputation of companies on social networks.

Gamifying learning environments, combining classroom with gamified e-Learning platform, is one of the educational proposals that increases motivation and commitment of the students in the learning process. This research analyzes, quantitatively and qualitatively, the use of Gamified Moodle as a tool to improve the above mentioned parameters by the completion of autonomous tasks, in a Java Programming Fundamentals course at the Central University of Ecuador.

Social Web has caused a revolution for communication in the organisations. Hospitals, like complex and organised entities, have not been an exception. The digital context allows increase the communication channels with the citizens and media. For hospitals, it represents a double opportunity: a) for institutional communication or corporate reputation and b) for health communication, in their role of educating health agents. The present work analyses the challenges of this new context and goes in depth in the Hospital Sant Joan of Déu case study, the first in incorporating the 2.0 e-Health director role.

Elevation data is very important for precise electric vehicle simulation. However, traffic simulators are often strictly two-dimensional and do not offer the capability of modelling urban networks taking elevation into account. In particular, SUMO - Simulation of Urban Mobility, an often used microscopic traffic simulation platform, relies on urban networks previously modelled with elevation data in order to provide access to this information during simulations. This work intends on tackling the problem of how to add this elevation data to urban network models - in particular for the case of the Porto urban network, in Portugal. With this goal in mind, a comparison between different altitude information retrieval approaches is made and a simple tool to annotate network models with altitude data is proposed. This paper starts by describing the methodological approach followed to develop the work, then describing and analysing its main findings. This description includes an in-depth explanation of the proposed tool. Lastly, this paper reviews some related work to this subject.
