In recent research of wireless communication, the concept of cooperative diversity has been put forward and used widely. A number of transmission schemes designed for radio communications could not be directly applied to underwater network, where channel characteristics are more complicated. In this paper, we consider a situation comparatively closer to the realistic underwater acoustic communication and investigate the relay selection problem. Considering the long propagation delay caused by low speed of sound, we design a cooperative transmission scheme. In this scheme, the network chooses the optimal relay or the suitable number of nodes adapting to the changes of underwater circumstances. Then the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is added to the criterion of relay selection to realize a more effective algorithm.

This paper investigates user assignment algorithms for the downlink multiuser multiple-input multiple-output system with strong correlation at the transmitter side. In maximizing the ergodic achievable sum rate per group (EASRPG), the Munkres user assignment algorithm (MUAA) efficiently finds the optimal solution for the problem but some user groups of the optimal solution severely degrade the EASRPG due to excessive inter-user interference (IUI) in the multiuser statistical eigen-mode transmission (MU-SET) mode. To overcome this, MUAA with mode switching (MUAA-MS) is proposed to build partial optimal paired groups with the MU-SET mode while the other unpaired users perform the single-user SET mode. Results show a higher EASRPG for MUAA-MS.

In this paper, a mutual interference-based ensured relay selection and transmission scheme is derived in millimeter Wave (mmWave) wireless personal area networks (WPANs). First, the personal basic service set control point/access point (PCP/AP) assesses a link as a non-Line-of-sight (NLoS) one if it has received the feedback from all the neighbor stations (STAs) in the common service period (SP) except for the receiver STA of the NLoS link. After then, the PCP/AP should select a relay STA for the NLoS link based on the fed back information from the NLoS link interfered STAs. At last, the PCP/AP should schedule the relay link composed of the selected relay STA and the two STAs of the NLoS link into a proper SP without disturbing the correctly decoded performance of other links in the same SP according to the signal to noise plus interference ratio (SINR) evaluation criterion. Both theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed scheme can largely improve the delay performance of mmWave systems compared with the random relay selection method.

A joint power and rate control using game theory algorithm is proposed in heterogeneous networks environment with interference among different systems. It designs a novel revenue function based on the fairness of users' power control and the rate allocation, accompanying with the interference of the primary users caused by different users. The existence and uniqueness of the Nash equilibrium of game theory are derived by rigorous mathematical. Furthermore, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can improve users' power control and rate allocation significantly.

This paper presents a 1-V class-E power amplifier for Wireless Sensor Network in a 0.18-μm CMOS process. The design exploits a cross-coupled structure to achieve high operating frequency and reduce the size of the transistors. Pairs of digital MOS switches manipulate the cross-coupled structure to work or not. To control the output power, a topology of three parallel units with different output power is adopted. An off-chip balun is also proposed for output differential-to-single ended conversion and impedance matching. At 800 MHz, the power amplifier can deliver a range of output power from -5.5 to 6.6 dBm and achieve maximal power-added efficiency (PAE) of 52.7% at 6.6 dBm.

Cooperative relaying and jamming are two efficient schemes to improve the Physical-layer security of a wireless transmission in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers. In this paper, we consider their cooperation in the context of AF-based two-way relay. We propose a hybrid cooperative relaying and jamming mechanism to enhance the security of a two-way relay network, where all the intermediate nodes not only adopt distributed beamforming but also jam the eavesdroppers to maximize the sum secrecy rate of the two terminals. We give the closed form solution of jamming weight vector and present the optimal relay beamforming scheme as well as an efficient algorithm to compute the optimal beamforming matrix based on convex optimization techniques. Simulations show that the proposed scheme greatly improves the security of the two-way relay network.

In this paper, we investigate the transceiver design in a dual-hop multi-user multiple-input multiple-output amplify-and-forward relay system. By taking the bounded channel uncertainties into account, we propose two robust design methods under the minimum sum mean-square-error (SMSE) criterion. The original problem is first transformed into a tractable one applying the generalized sign-definiteness lemma, and then the transceiver is achieved by employing an iterative algorithm based on alternating optimization. Moreover, in order to reduce the complexity, a novel cutting-set method is developed to solve the considered problem efficiently by solving an alternating sequence of SMSE minimization and worst-case analysis problems. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This paper considers OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) based broadband wireless communications in high mobility with rapid time-varying Doppler shifts, where the received signal is significantly degraded by Doppler distortion, such as in a scenario of low-earth-orbit satellite communications. Since existing Doppler rate estimation methods are mainly designed for single carrier systems, two new CP (Cyclic Prefix) based Doppler rate estimators are proposed for OFDM based systems with discrete pilots, i.e. SOD (second order difference) estimator and ML (maximum likelihood) estimator. Furthermore in a time-dispersive channel a modification is conducted to improve both estimators accuracy in a fading channel. In the simulation part proposed estimators are compared with existing single-carrier Doppler rate estimators to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed estimators in an OFDM system. Specifically simulation results verify the low complexity of SOD estimator, the high accuracy of ML estimator, the insensitivity to initial Doppler shifts of both estimators and the accuracy improvement of modified estimators in a fading channel.

This paper presents two new blind learning algorithms to achieve robust convergence for linear or nonlinear equalization. Rather than only using the output information contained in equalizer's output signals, the input decision information involved in the input signals is employed to assist the blind learning procedure. Based on this input information, two blind algorithms, Benveniste-Goursat input-output-decision (BG-IOD) and Stop-and-Go input-output-decision (SAG-IOD) are proposed. Extensive simulations show that the proposed algorithms are superior to existing algorithms such as stochastic quadratic distance (SQD) and dual mode constant modulus algorithm (DM-CMA) in terms of preventing local convergence for linear equalization with random initial conditions or nonlinear equalization using neural works.

This paper focuses on the slot allocation scheme of MAC protocol to achieve energy-efficiency for the Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN). The WBAN is adopted to realize the wireless communication between the patient and the monitoring station in a healthcare system. The energy of miniature sensor nodes in WBAN is mainly consumed in the wireless interface and MAC protocol. We propose a time division multiple access (TDMA) protocol which takes advantage of the fixed topology of the WBAN. To implement the sensor energy efficiency, a slot allocation scheme is taken into account. Considering the heterogeneity of nodes, we formulate the problem as a Binary Integer Nonlinear Dynamic Programming (BINDP) to setup data priorities to achieve high slot utilization. Two heuristic algorithms are designed to solve the problem. Our results show that the proposed algorithms have the advantages of less energy consumption, higher slot utilization rate, and lower delay of the system.
