This study observes the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching in secondary school focuses on the culture of teachers in Indonesia in 2007 - 2012. Through an observation on the ICT program in teaching English in Indonesia and an analysis of the theory of the culture of teaching, it evidences that the application of ICT in teaching EFL has influenced the teachers’ cultures at schools. It confirms that the use of the internet and World Wide Web as well as social media has strengthened the four culture of teaching in Indonesia; either individualism, balkanization, collaborative, or contrive collegiality. It changes the way of teachers plan teaching materials, perform their teaching in class, and the way they interact with other teachers and students. However, some challenges facing ICT in Indonesia should be solved. Through this analysis, conclusion and some recommendation are presented at the end of this report.

The researcher used thequestionnaire was given to the students to cover the statements about the students’ interest in the implementation of software in reading comprehension. The data obtained through Likert Scale, it was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics through SPSS 16.0 version. In conducting the research, the researcher applied the “Wondershare Quiz Creator Software” and the result showed that there was students’ interest at the experimental group after applying the software. It was proven by the result of descriptive and inferential statistics in questioning the students’ statements in the posttest. Based on the result of the questionnaire engaged to the experimental group, the interest of the students was dominantly classified as very high interest. There were 12 (27%) of them classified as high interest and 33 students dominated 73 % as very high interest. The students in the experimental group generally agree with the implementation of the software because they had confidence and felt more enthusiastic with the mean score is 86.53, which was categorized as interesting.

The aim of this study is to see how an Indonesian studying in the U.S. uses English tense and aspects to produce meaning oral narrative discourses. The Indonesian’s verbatim of narrative discourse is compared to that of a Minnesota-born English speaker studying in a university in the midwestern of the United States. The audio-recorded narrative discourses are transcribed, then foregrounding and backgrounding clauses of each participant’s oral narrative discourse are analyzed to count the number of verbs produced by each participant. The verbs are categorized into past verbs (simple, progressive, pluperfect) and non-past verbs (base forms, present tense, present progressive, present perfect). By analyzing the morphology distribution, the researcher recorded that the Minnesotan participant used past tense more frequently in foregrounding and backgrounding clauses in both narrative tasks, while the Indonesian used more temporal adverbs than that of the Minnesotan.

This study is intended to answer the main research questions related to the students’ learning style preferences that used dominantly by male and female students at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar in 2017/2018 academic years. Their gender differences in communication affect the students’ learning style. There were 20 students involved as the participants of the study which were selected by using convenient sampling. The data were collected by using three instruments: observation, diaries and questionnaire. Then, the data were analyzed by using mixed methods both qualitatively and quantitatively. Qualitative data were obtained from observations and diaries while quantitative data were obtained from questionnaires. The procedures of data analysis consisted of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion or verification. The result of this study shows that the learning style that used dominantly by female students is kinesthetic learning style. Moreover, the data also showed that the male students tend to use auditory learning style. Whereas, in terms of individual and group learning style preference, there were no significant differences between male and female in working as a group and individual. In addition, there is an effect of gender difference in term of learning style because of the notions of male and female’s communication. The male students’ preferred auditory learning style because male students tended to enjoy and more active to learn by hearing music and short video as learning media. On the other hand, female students preferred kinesthetic learning style because they learn best by being involved physically in the classroom, such as learning by doing and learning by using games. These styles of learning are affected by the notions of gender differences in communication.

This study aims at exploring the beginning EFL teacher in making learning objective, selecting learning materials, and assessment used in learning, and discovering the problems and solutions of the beginning EFL teacher. This study is qualitative research with a case study. Data sources of the study were one beginning EFL teacher of SMAN A (pseudonym), the Vice Principal of SMAN A, and the Head of MGMP Makassar. Data were collected by employing observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentation. The results of the study reveal that the beginning EFL teacher has problem in formulating clear learning objective and in using appropriate assessment to students’ achievement. However, he has adequate knowledge of selecting the materials from the easiest to the most challenging one. The solutions to overcome the problems of the beginning EFL teacher are to provide supervisor (superintendent) with the same discipline in school, assign qualified experienced teacher as mentor teacher to guide the beginning EFL teacher in his first year of teaching, and assign the beginning EFL teacher to join MGMP and attend its monthly meetings as a compulsory activity.

This article is discussing about the children acquisition in second language. It is observing how a child acquires her second language through YouTube. It described the child age 3,7 years habit to watch video through YouTube. The daily notes were taken to see the child’s words, sentences, and also reaction after watching the video intensively for two months. The research observation result shown that a child starts her acquiring by perceiving the language through silent period. She needs 3-5 times to watch a video, and then she is able to imitate words and sentences in video, even though her pronunciation is not fluency yet. Moreover, she does not really understand about the meaning of the words or sentences. It is indicated that the children age 3,7 years old still has difficulties to understand the beyond meaning of the words or sentences. The implication of this research is to show the stages of children in acquiring their second language which is similar to their first language acquisition. Therefore, teaching and learning second language should not be different from teaching and learning first language.

The researcher used a classroom action research (CAR) which was conducted in two cycles in which every cycle consisted of four meetings. The location of this research was taken at the first grade students of SMAN 1 Bontomarannu with a number of the subject were 35 students. The research findings indicated that the application of SMAN 1 Bontomarannu, This strategy was improving the students’ reading comprehension in terms ofLiteral reading and Creative reading of the text. It was proved by the mean score of cycle I was 60.7. It was classified as fair then improved to be 73.36. It was classified as good in cycle II.
