Artikli peaeesmark on analuusida keele kestlikkuse ja kao diskursiivset konstrueerimist Saksamaa ja Soome eestlaste ning setu ja voru keele kasutajate poolstruktureeritud intervjuude naitel. Intervjuuandmestik parineb koostooprojektist European Language Diversity for All (ELDIA), mille keskmes on vaikese konelejaskonnaga soome-ugri keeled tanapaeva mitmekeelsetes uhiskondades. Saksamaal ja Soomes elavad eestlased esindavad allohtoonseid keeleruhmi; setu- ja vorukeelsed moodustavad autohtoonsed Eesti keelekogukonnad, mille piiritlemine pole probleemitu. Koigi nimetatud kogukondade puhul on tegu mitmekeelsete eestlastega, kes on suuremal voi vahemal maaral sailitanud oma vahemuskeele enamuskeelses, vastavalt saksa-, soome- ja eestikeelses keeleruumis. Diskursusanaluusi korval vaadeldakse pogusalt, kuidas hindavad oma keeleoskust erinevas vanuses inimesed. Kogu keelekestlikkuse ja -kao diskursus on vaadeldav legitimatsioonidiskursusena, kus osalised argumenteerivad vahemuskeelte funktsioonide ja tuleviku ule. Quantitative and qualitative aspects of switching between Estonian Sign Language and spoken Estonian 在爱沙尼亚手语和口语之间转换的数量和质量方面

The central research question of the present paper is ‘What variables influence switching (code-switching and code-blending) between Estonian Sign Language and spoken Estonian among bimodal bilinguals in a school environment?’ The data from guided discussions involving deaf and hearing students indicated that bimodal bilinguals predominantly code-blend, i.e. simultaneously produce speech and signs. The main function of switching among the students was to emphasise a constituent in a clause, but they also switched to express themselves in an original way. In some utterances, it proved difficult to apply a single function to a switch, thus a sequential turn-by-turn analysis was employed. A deaf student’s level of switching was influenced most by the hearing status of the interlocutor, and the amount of switching by the interlocutor. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5128/ERYa9.03

Speed in cognitive tasks as an indicator of second/foreign language reading and writing skills 认知任务的速度是第二语言/外语阅读和写作技能的一个指标

In a cross-sectional study 823 Finnish school children were tested to examine the relation between speed of performance in cognitive and linguistic tasks and second/foreign language reading and writing. Participants were Finnish-speakers with English as foreign language and Russian-speakers with Finnish as second language which made it possible to compare the results across these two language groups. The Finnish group was furthermore divided into three groups by age to see how speed develops with age and education. Groups were tested with a number of cognitive instruments that included measures of speed of performance. Overall, performance on the speed measures improved with age; often, the second language learners outperformed their foreign language peers of the same age. Regression analyses indicated that speed measures could predict from 20% to over 40% of performance in second/foreign language reading and writing tasks. Prediction was somewhat stronger for writing than reading. The best predictors were also somewhat different for the foreign and second language learners, as well as for the different age groups. Interviewer behaviour during oral proficiency interviews: A gender perspective 面试官在口语水平面试中的行为:性别视角

The article investigates the behaviour of interviewers during the oral proficiency interview within the framework of the national examination in the English language in Estonia from the gender perspective. The research investigates whether noticeable differences can be traced in the behavioural patterns of male and female interviewers that could lead to placing the candidates in a disadvantaged position, not allowing them to display their language proficiency to the full. The study involves nine female and nine male interviewers whose interview language is subjected to content analysis. The results show an overall attempt to follow the scripted interview format envisaged for this examination, but alterations to the script prevail with both gender groups. Eesti terminoloogiatoo praktikas on seni piisava tahelepanuta jaanud moistetasandil avalduv kujundlikkus. Ka on suhtumine erialakeele kujundlikkusesse ambivalentne: kuigi terminiteoreetilistes kasitlustes kohtab uha enam kujundi kui tunnetusvahendi tahtsustamist, on praktikas suhtumine jatkuvalt pigem kohklev-torjuv. Samas on kujundliku taustaga termin sageli erialainimeste loomulik valik. Artikkel kasitlebki kujundlikkuse rolli oskuskeeles. Uurimisaineseks on magistrikursuse ohvitseride terminivalikud ja -pohjendused. Vaatlen, millal kalduvad ohvitserid eelistama kujundlikku terminit ja kuidas valikut pohjendatakse. Lahteks on tees, et funktsionaalse ja juurdumisvoimelise terminoloogia valjatootamine eeldab teadlikkust sihtgrupi vajadustest, terminieelistustest ja moistestusviisist. Sojanduses, nagu teistelgi erialadel, on kaibel kujundliku taustaga termineid, mida on traditsioonilises (oskus)keelekorralduses tavaks taunida kui toorlaene. Selgub, et taolised terminikujud omavad tihti erialainimeste eelistust ja on juurdunud. HOW TO CREATE ORDER IN LARGE CLOSED SUBSETS OF WORDNET-TYPE DICTIONARIES 如何在wordnet类型字典的大型封闭子集中创建顺序

This article presents a new two-step method to handle and study large closed subsets of WordNet-type dictionaries with the goal of finding possible structural inconsistencies. The notion of closed subset is explained using a WordNet tree. A novel and very fast method to order large relational systems is described and compared with some other fast methods. All the presented methods have been tested using Estonian1 and Princeton WordNet2 largest closed sets. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5128/ERYa9.10

Developing interviewer proficiency: A self-perception survey 提高面试官的熟练程度:自我认知调查

The article reports the findings of a survey among 440 teachers of English in Estonia who participate in the oral proficiency interview of the national examination in the English language as interviewers. Examining the results of the questionnaire statement by statement, the study reveals that interviewer behavioural patterns emerge during the interview, some of them threatening its validity.The understanding of interviewer competence is very diverse among the interviewers and the degree to which they adhere to the standards defined for the interviewers of national examination in the English langage in Estonia is sometimes quite low. The interviewers are often unable to separate their role as an interviewer from being a teacher; they transfer their teaching behaviour to the interviewing situation. The teachers have difficulties with identification of appropriate accommodation strategies as well as controlling the extent of interaction between the interviewer and the assessor. Meetodeid tekstide leksikaalsete ja grammatiliste erinevuste tuvastamiseks meditsiiniliste tarbetekstide näitel

Artiklis kasitletakse seni uurimata eestikeelset ressurssi: ravimipakendites sisalduvaid infolehti ja arstidele suunatud ravimeid tutvustavaid kokkuvotteid. Nimetatud ainestiku analuusimiseks kasutatakse monda labipaistvat statistilist meetodit, mis voimaldavad kerge vaevaga tuvastada tekstide tuubist ja žanrist tulenevaid leksikaalseid ja grammatilisi erinevusi. Taolise analuusi eesmargiks on uhest kuljest katsetada nimetatud meetodite efektiivsust tekste eristavate karakteristikute leidmisel, kuid ka koguda andmestikust lahtuvaid taustateadmisi keeletehnoloogiliste rakenduste efektiivsemaks loomiseks. Täiendusi Heinrich Gösekeni saksa-ladina-eesti sõnastiku (1660) ja selle uusväljaande (2010) koostamise kohta

Artikli eesmark on kirjeldada ajaloolise leksikograafia pohimotete rakendamist Heinrich Gosekeni saksa-ladina-eesti sonastiku kui 17. sajandi mahukaima eesti keelt sisaldanud leksikoni naitel. Artikli alguses iseloomustatakse nii Gosekeni sonastiku kui ka ulejaanud kahe samal sajandil ilmunud saksa-eesti sonastiku sotsiokultuurilist tausta ja koostamise asjaolusid. Artikli pohiosas keskendutakse Gosekeni sonastiku metodoloogiliselt uudsele analuusile. Rohk on 2010. aastal Tartu Ulikooli vana kirjakeele tooruhmas valminud kogumiku “Heinrich Gosekeni grammatika ja sonastik 350” sonastikuosal, peamiselt on vaatluse all marksonastamise uksikasjad ja sonade tahenduse avamise protsess. Eesti ja soome sõnalugemistestide võrdlus

Artiklis analuusitakse kahte lugemistesti – sonaloendi lugemise testi ja sonade aratundmise testi – vordlevalt eesti ja soome keeles. Uurimusel on kaks eesmarki: hinnata nimetatud testide eesti- ja soomekeelsete versioonide omavahelist vastavust ja arendada lugemistestide vordlemise meetodeid. Testide vordlemisel rakendatakse paralleelselt testide keelelist analuusi, taiskasvanud lugejate testitulemuste ning laste testisoorituste ja intervjuude analuusi. Tulemused osutavad nimetatud testide suurele sarnasusele. Teste ei saa siiski pidada identseteks eesti ja soome keeles, seda osalt moningaste erinevuste tottu testides endas ning osalt keeleliste isearasuste tottu. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5128/ERYa9.18
