V clanku so vzorcno razgrnjeni dejstva in spomini o stoletju spreminjanja meje na obmejnem obmocju med danasnjo Slovenijo in Madžarsko. Ker meje prvenstveno simbolizirajo fizicno moc države, so povsod po svetu dominantna tema za ljudi, ki naseljujejo obmejna obmocja. Za stoletja enovito obmocje Slovenske krajine je bila dolocitev meje po 1. svetovni vojni leta 1919 pretres ne le za politicne akterje, temvec tudi za ljudi, ki so se naenkrat znasli v locenih državah. Leta 1948 je bila na to mejo postavljena železna zavesa, ki je povsem ohromila komunikacije na jugoslovansko (slovensko)-madžarskem obmejnem obmocju in ga dodatno zaznamovala s posebno zgodovinsko in socialno dinamiko. To je v clanku ponazorjeno na dveh ravneh: v prvem delu z zgosceno zgodovinsko skico o postavljanju mej in dogajanju ob tem, v drugem delu pa z zapisanimi in ustnimi spomini ljudi s tega obmocja, ki pridobivajo status kolektivnega spomina. Pripovedi o meji se tako gibljejo med diskurzivno in izkusenjsko ravnijo. *** The article concisely arranges the facts and memories of a century of shifting borders along the boundary between today's Slovenia and Hungary. As borders primarily symbolize the physical strength of a state, they are an essential subject to people living in borderlands anywhere in the world. Following the Great War, the 1919 delineation of the border in what had for centuries been a stable area (Slovene March) caused upheaval not only for political actors but also for those persons who suddenly found themselves living in separate states. Later, in 1948, the border became part of the Iron Curtain, which completely paralyzed communications in the Yugoslavian (Slovenian)-Hungarian cross-border region and branded it with a highly specific historical and social dynamic. The article illustrates these processes on two levels by providing both a condensed historical sketch of the events taking place at and by the border as well as an analysis of the recorded and spoken memories of the region's people, now passing into collective memory. The narratives of the border presented in this analysis thus move between discursive and experiential aspects.

This paper will examine how EU integration processes inform developments in the border region between Slovenia and Hungary by focusing on EU funding as an instrument of cross-border integration. Ethnographic interviews serve as a means for ascertaining how actors in the border region experience these EU funding initiatives, what sorts of changes these projects introduce, what sorts of networks they facilitate, and how they inform borderland experience and development. *** Na podlagi analize projektov Evropske unije (EU) kot instrumentov cezmejnega povezovanja avtorica preucuje vplive procesov evropske integracije na dogajanja na obmejnem obmocju med Slovenijo in Madžarsko. Z etnografskimi intervjuji ugotavlja, kako akterji v obmejni regiji doživljajo te programe EU, kaksne spremembe uvajajo ti projekti, kaksne socialne mreže omogocajo in kako vplivajo na obmejne izkusnje ter razvoj obmejnega obmocja.

Őrseg National Park (440 square kilometers) in Hungary was established in 2002, and Goricko Nature Park in Slovenia (462 square kilometers) in 2003. Both protected areas encompass regions that were purportedly “ forgotten” by progress – on the margins – but are now considered idyllic landscapes with rich cultural history and a high level of biodiversity, which have the potential to function as centers for regional sustainable development. *** Narodni park Őrseg (440 km2) na Madžarskem je bil ustanovljen leta 2002, Krajinski park Goricko v Sloveniji (462 km2) pa leto pozneje. Obe zavarovani obmocji zajemata regije na obrobju dveh držav, ki jih je razvoj “pozabil.” Danes jih dojemajo kot idilicne krajine z bogato kulturno zgodovino in visoko stopnjo biodiverzitete: oboje lahko pomeni potencial za regionalni trajnostni razvoj.

Food is not only a component of the material world, but it also plays a vital role in economic, social, and symbolic practices. In the past, food production and consumption on the part of the Slovenian population strongly depended on regional origins and the local economy. Some such regional products include olive and pumpkin seed oils. Pumpkin seed oil has had a special role in the diet of the inhabitants of the Goricko region. Today it is an important factor in economic development as well as an expression of regional affiliation and local cuisine. The Styrian-Prekmurje pumpkin seed oil from the north-eastern part of Slovenia has been protected in the European Union with the Geographical Indication-PGI. *** Hrana ni le sestavina materialnega sveta, temvec ima pomembno vlogo tudi v gospodarskih, socialnih in simbolnih praksah. V preteklosti je bila proizvodnja in poraba hrane prebivalstva na Slovenskem mocno odvisna od regionalnega izvora in lokalnega gospodarstva. Med regionalne proizvode sodita tudi oljcno in bucno olje. Bucno olje je imelo v prehrani prebivalcev Gorickega posebno vlogo in je danes pomemben dejavnik gospodarskega razvoja, pa tudi izraz regionalne pripadnosti in lokalne kulinarike. Stajersko-prekmursko bucno olje iz severovzhodne Slovenije je v Evropski uniji zasciteno z geografsko oznacbo-PGI.

This paper explores how wildlife’s purposeful migrations across the Hungarian-Slovenian border engenders relations between nonhumans and humans and stimulates people’s borderwork activities. Following a lead from Stef Jansen’s argument about the incompatibility of symmetrical and asymmetrical treatment of humans and nonhumans, the author performs a two-step analysis of animals’ involvement in borderwork. *** Avtor v clanku raziskuje vprasanje, kako namerno gibanje divjadi cez madžarsko-slovensko mejo ustvarja razmerja med ljudmi in neljudmi ter spodbuja cloveska dejanja izdelovanja meje. Pri tem sledi argumentom Stefa Jansena o nezdružljivosti simetricne in asimetricne obravnave ljudi in neljudi, zato izvede temu ustrezno dvostopenjsko analizo vloge živali v izdelovanju meje.

Po ugotovitvah terenske raziskave pogrebne glasbe v sodobni Sloveniji ostaja ljudska pesem glavna spremljevalka slovesa od pokojnih. Iz pisnih virov in pogovorov z glasbeniki, ki na pogrebih nastopajo več desetletij, izvemo, da je bila na pogrebih v preteklosti ljudska glasba v izvedbi moških pevskih skupin tradicionalna glasbena praksa. Terenska raziskava je pokazala, da se danes ta tradicija dopolnjuje z uporabo različnih zvrsti glasbe od klasične do popularne v izvedbi vokalnih ali inštrumentalnih skupin in solistov.***The field research of funeral music in today's Slovenia indicates that traditional songs are often employed to accompany the process of bidding farewell to a deceased person. From written sources and in conversations with musicians performing at funerals for decades, we find out that traditional music performed by male vocal groups was a traditional musical practice at funerals in the past. Field research revealed that this tradition is complemented by the use of various types of music from classical to popular, performed by vocal and instrumental soloists and groups.

Prispevek obravnava sakralne skladbe Charleyja Pattona, posnete med letoma 1929 in 1934 na gramofonskih ploščah z 78 o/min. Na njih so dokumentirane Pattonove številne glasbene značilnosti. Moč njegove glasbe je na primer pogosto najočitnejša v njegovih spiritualih in gospelih. Avtor preučuje ločnico med posvetno in sakralno glasbo v Pattonovi glasbeni zapuščini in širše v afroameriški kulturi, pri čemer se osredinja na prehajanja te ločnice in prepletanje glasbenih slogov ter ugotavlja, da se je Patton v glasbenih izvedbah zlahka sprehajal med sakralnim in posvetnim.***The article introduces Charley Patton’s religious songs on 78 rpm gramophone records recorded in the period from 1929 to 1934. Almost all of Patton’s varied musical skills come out on those records. For example, the power of his music is often most evident in his spiritual and gospel work. The author writes about the divide between secular and sacred music in Afro-American culture and particularly in Patton’s legacy. The author was also mainly interested in crossing of that dividing line and in blending of various styles, and he ascertained that in his performances Patton easily crossed the line of separation between sacred and profane.

Prispevek je nastal kot etnografski oris delovanja kantorjev in pogrebnih pevcev na območju Prekmurja in Porabja ter z njimi povezanih vsebinskih in kontekstualnih vprašanj. V središču zanimanja so nosilci glasbenih aktivnosti, povezanih z bogoslužjem in pogrebnim obredjem, zato se osrednja vprašanja nanašajo na glasbeni repertoar, kulturnozgodovinsko umestitev delovanja kantorja in pogrebnih pevcev ter na njihovo vlogo in pomen v skupnosti. Prispevek temelji na opazovanju tako v madžarskih kot slovenskih skupnostih v Prekmurju in Porabju, in sicer v okviru protestantske kot tudi katoliške cerkve.***The paper is an ethnographic outline of the activities of cantors and funeral singers in the Prekmurje region in Slovenia and the Raba Valley in western Hungary related to textual and contextual questions. The research focuses on music performers at liturgies and funeral rituals, so the main issue addresses the music repertoire, the cultural and historical status of the cantor and funeral singers, and their role in the community. The paper is based on the observation in both Hungarian and Slovenian communities in Prekmurje region and in the Raba Valley, both within Protestant and Catholic churches.

Članek izhaja iz raziskav pri skupnem madžarsko-slovenskem projektu in predstavlja spoznanja študij, še posebej v povezavi z osrednjo tematiko, tj. mrtvečimi pesmimi v Prekmurju in Porabju. Mrtveče pesmi in tudi nekatere druge obredne in nabožne pesmi so bile do nedavnega deležne manjše pozornosti folkloristov in etnomuzikologov, zato so predstavljena nekatera spoznanja, nastala pri projektnem delu in ob širšem premisleku o obrednih, nabožnih in mrliških pesmih ter njihovem prepletanju z ljudskim izročilom.***The paper is based on the research carried out in the framework of a joint Hungarian-Slovenian project and presents the research results, especially in relation to the central research topic – dirges in Prekmurje and the Rába Valley. Previously, dirges and some other ritual and religious songs received scant attention from folklorists and ethnomusicologists. The paper thus presents some findings achieved by the project work and some broader insights into the ritual, religious and funeral songs, and the way they are interwoven with folk tradition.

Rokopisne pesmarice so pomemben, a premalo upoštevan vir raziskovanja cerkvenih in ljudskih nabožnih pesmi ter procesa ponarodevanja avtorskih pesmi. V članku so analizirani vzroki za nezanimanje raziskovalcev za to področje in predstavljene dileme žanrskega razmejevanja v rokopisnih pesmaricah, v katerih so zapisane tako avtorske cerkvene kot ljudske pesmi. Vprašanja razmerij med institucionalno religioznim in ljudskim dopolnjujejo prepletanja med pisnim in ustnim.***Manuscript songbooks as a very important source have only partly been taken into account in research on church songs and religious folk songs and in the process of folklorization of art songs. This article analyzes the reasons for researchers’ lack of interest of in this topic, and it presents the problems of genre demarcation in manuscript songbooks, which contain both church songs and folk songs. Discussion of the relations between institutional religious and folk elements are complemented by the interplay between written and oral material.
