A social networking platform for augmenting precision agriculture 一个增强精准农业的社交网络平台

Finding answers to the question “How do communities likely to be imperiled by agro-forestry transformations arising from climate change respond proactively to that change", is a timely investigation, that can benefit agro-forestry industry as well as the lives and livelihoods of people in the neighborhoods. Ajimu-Project aims to investigate the above question with its focus on climatic change effects on taste of wine in the vineyards of Ajimu farm village, in Oita Prefecture in Japan. This paper presents the rationale of design and implementation of a community-wide information sharing platform: Ajimu Information Sharing Platform (Ajimu-ISP) that intends to enhance communicability among multiple stakeholders in sharing information across the agro-forestry value chain in which enhancing information visibility and facilitating user friendly interface are major system design concerns. ISP will inherit the salient features of social networking systems while addressing the specific needs of the stakeholders of Ajimu-Project. The system provides an array of functions that range from real-time monitoring of climatic information to mining of implicit knowledge acquired from the users. URL: http://www.ajimu-project.org

Rain rate and rain attenuation estimation for Ku band satellite communications over Sri Lanka 斯里兰卡Ku波段卫星通信的雨率和雨衰减估计

Rain attenuation is the dominant propagation impairment at microwave frequencies, which varies for different countries/regions and essential to quantify correctly for satellite systems design. There was a consistent need to estimate and compare the practical rain fade margin with existing model estimations for Sri Lanka. This paper presents the rain rate and rain attenuation estimation for Ku band satellite signals by using established models as well as actual propagation measurements. Rainfall data over three years period is considered to estimate the highest rain rate distribution. Two satellite downlinks from Intelsat-12 & INSAT-4B are used for practical measurements and three rain attenuation models (ITU-R, DAH and Karasawa) are used to calculate the respective model estimations. It is found that the rain rate which exceeded 0.01% of cumulative time for an average year (R0.01) as 105mm/h and resulted specific rain attenuation (γ0.01) is 2.8dB/km. Ka band rain attenuation for the same links is predicted using ITU-R frequency scaling method. Among the empirical models considered, DAH model gives overestimated results for the local context while the Karasawa model gives best-fit compliance with the measured path attenuation data.

Understanding partial discharge activity in GIS due to particle movement under high frequency AC voltage adopting UHF technique 采用超高频技术研究高频交流电压下粒子运动引起的GIS局部放电活动

Experimental studies were carried out to understand the partial discharges initiated due to particle movement in GIS operated at different pressure, under high frequency AC voltages adopting UHF technique. The rise time of partial discharge current pulse formed due to particle movement is 2ns. It is observed that the frequency contents of the signal radiated due to partial discharges generated due to particle movement in the electrode gap filled with SF6 lies in the UHF signal range, with its dominant frequency at near 1 GHz, irrespective of frequency of the supply voltage and the operating pressure. The UHF signal magnitude and the time required for 100 UHF signal to form shows direct correlation. Ternary diagram clearly indicates that irrespective of frequency of the supply voltage, the UHF signal location (signal generated due to PD) in the ternary diagram is the same.

Extraction of parameters for simulating photovoltaic panels 光伏板模拟参数提取

Presented in this paper is a method of simulating photovoltaic modules by taking the manufacturer specified data at standard test conditions as inputs. A method for estimating unknown parameters of a simplified version of the single diode solar cell model corresponding to a given photovoltaic panel is described. In the proposed approach, the equivalent circuit represents an entire solar panel, composed of several solar cells. A new method, which is simple, is also proposed to identify the ideality factor of the equivalent diode along with the series resistance. Estimated unknowns are used in generating module output curves at different environmental conditions. The generated curves are compared with manufacturer's data. The curves are also compared with curves generated with an alternative method available in the literature. The superiority of the proposed technique is demonstrated.

Application-aware video coding architecture using camera and object motion-models 应用程序感知视频编码架构使用相机和对象运动模型

The proliferation of video consumption, especially over mobile devices, has created a demand for efficient interactive video applications and high-level video analysis. This is particularly significant in real-time applications and resource-limited scenarios. Pixel-domain video processing is often inefficient for many of these applications due to its complexity, whereas compressed domain processing offer fast but unreliable results. In order to achieve fast and effective video processing, this paper proposes a novel video encoding architecture that facilitate efficient compressed domain processing, while maintaining compliance with the mainstream coding standards. This is achieved by optimizing the accuracy of motion information embedded in the compressed video, in addition to compression efficiency. In a motion detection application, we demonstrate that the motion estimated by the proposed encoder can be directly used to extract object information, as opposed to conventionally coded video. The incurred rate distortion overheads can be weighed against the reduced processing required for video analysis targeting a wide spectrum of computer vision applications.

Wind Turbine Emulator 风力发电机仿真器

The paper presents the development of a DC motor based Wind Turbine Emulator (WTE) and its performance verification through simulation. The torque signal that represents the actual wind turbine with environmental effect was made to generate at the DC motor shaft. Particularly, the study incorporates the turbine power control strategy including the effect of stochastic and deterministic load components with the shaft dynamics. The WTE with the Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) is studied to verify the effectiveness of the WTE in the presence of various wind characteristics.

Spectrum sensing in low SNR: Diversity combining and cooperative communications 低信噪比的频谱感知:分集组合与协同通信

In this paper, the detection performance of an energy detector used for cooperative spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks is investigated under very low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) levels. The analysis focuses on the derivation of closed-form expressions for the false-alarm and the average missed-detection probabilities for two cases over different fading channels: (i) with diversity combining; and (ii) with cooperative communications. The detection threshold is optimized by minimizing the total error rate. The analysis is validated by numerical and semi-analytical Monte-Carlo simulation results, which focus on the sensing requirements defined in IEEE 802.22.

This paper presents variation of dielectric properties of aged and wet asphalt mica winding samples using frequency dielectric spectroscopy measurements. The test procedure consisted of three phases: drying, wetting and electrical ageing. During drying, naturally wet samples were dried inside an oven at 70°C for 168 hrs. During wetting, dried samples were artificially wet at 28°C and RH of 75% for 198 hrs. During ageing, the samples were electrically stressed at 300% of the nominal voltage for 1007 hrs in a cyclic behavior such that each day stressing and resting were done at 12/12 hr intervals. After 1007 hrs, the samples were rested for 168 hrs and afterwards electrical ageing was repeated for further 334 hrs. In all cases, FDS measurements were conducted on the samples and loss tangent and relative permittivity parameters were used for the analysis. The results were compared with field spare winding with age of 50 years. It was found that FDS measurements can be used for separating wet and aged conditions.

Rainfall is a complex process and forecasting rainfall is complicated because it involves a lot of parameters but precise rainfall forecasting is necessary for many human activities. Even though considerable research work has been done in rainfall prediction, comparatively fewer efforts have been made on Sri Lankan monsoon rainfall prediction using large scale climatic teleconnections. In this paper, results of a study in investigating the appropriateness of artificial neural networks in forecasting monsoon rainfall in Sri Lanka using large scale climate teleconnections is presented.

BribeWire: Assuring trustworthiness of bribery complaints BribeWire:确保贿赂投诉的可信度

In today's world, corruption is on the rise. Bribery, also a form of corruption has affected every nation across the globe. With the advent of new web and mobile technologies, it has now become possible to introduce platforms for making complaints against bribery. However, due to the unknown identity and lack of personal interaction with the complainants, it is crucial to ensure the integrity of data provided. Hence, decision makers are faced with the need for a system to evaluate the trustworthiness of complaints made. To bridge this gap, a system called BribeWire is proposed to lodge complaints against bribery along with a novel trust model to evaluate the trustworthiness of these complaints. An algorithm that executes the trust model is introduced, followed by the architecture of the application that is to be used to lodge complaints against bribery.
