El paciente politraumatizado constituye una urgencia quirúrgica que implica conocimiento, habilidad y destreza. La vida moderna ha hecho que el número de lesionados en todo el mundo cada día sea alarmantemente superior y Gambia, país africano no está excepto de ello. Nos propusimos describir los resultados del comportamiento del paciente politraumatizado. Se realizó un estudio de 155 pacientes traumatizados que fueron atendidos en el periodo de Febrero de 2007 a Agosto de 2008 en los hospitales de Bansang, Farafenni y Royal Victoria de Gambia.Los pacientes estuvieron comprendidos entre 15 y 63 a˜os, el sexo masculino fue el más frecuente con 122 pacientes, los accidentes de tránsito fueron el principal origen del trauma con 60, 7 %, el íleo paralítico prolongado fue la complicación postoperatoria que más se observó con 18 pacientes y la falla múltiple de órganos fue la principal causa de muerte con 9 %.

The modern life do that the number of lessions people in all world each day is alarmantly higher, The Gambia african people is not except of them. Our propose is to describe the results of the behavior of the trauma patient Carry out a study of the 155 politrauma patients that were attended in the period of February of 2007 even August of 2008 in the Bansang, Farafenni and Royal Victory hospitals of The Gambia. The patients were between 15 and 63 years, the male sex were the more frecuent with 122 patients, the road traffic accident were the main origen of the trauma with 60, 7 %, the paralitic ileum was the postoperatory complication that more saw with 18 patients and the organs multiple faillure was the principal cause of death with 9 %.
